[edit]Roddenberry ST scripts
[edit]Gene Roddenberry aka The Great Bird of the Galaxy created the Star Trek universe, characters, etc.; and he personally wrote a number of episodes. My question: which of GR's episodes (if any) were particularly memorable or well received? That includes all the shows and not just TOS. The most famous ones in my recollection were scripted by other writers, but I'm not that deep an aficionado. Thanks. 2601:648:8202:350:0:0:0:D7BB (talk) 21:49, 25 December 2021 (UTC)
- Our Category:Television_episodes_written_by_Gene_Roddenberry contains a mere 14 episodes. Not sure if that's comprehensive. You can look at the reception sections of the articles and judge for yourself which were best received. I note that The Menagerie is the only two-parter in the original series, and won an award. Then in TNG he wrote a couple of episodes involving Q, including "Encounter at Farpoint", which the article says ... aired to an audience of 27 million. The show was immediately called the "highest-rated syndicated one-hour drama series on television.". But I guess that was due to excitement about the new series, and was more about crediting him for masterminding Star Trek than for the writing on that episode necessarily. "Datalore", although memorable to me (it's the one with Data's evil twin) seems to have corresponded to a slight dip in the ratings and is noted for its plot holes. "Bread and Circuses" attracted a modest amount of calm and considered critical acclaim long after it was first broadcast, so perhaps that's a genuinely good one. - Ah thanks, I didn't know about that category. It helps. Of the episodes you mention, Datalore is the one I remember best, mostly because of Brent Spiner playing 3 characters in the same episode, and because I liked the Lore character. I don't remember plot holes but I didn't really scrutinize the episode so I'm sure I missed stuff. 2601:648:8202:350:0:0:0:D7BB (talk) 00:49, 26 December 2021 (UTC)
