NBA officials uniforms

[edit]

In a lot of sports, the match officials wear a uniform that doesn't clash with the competing teams. Is there a reason that NBA officials wear a light grey uniform that is very close to the white of many teams. Hack (talk) 01:51, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How many NBA teams wear long dark pants as part of their uniforms? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots04:01, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You generally pass the ball to the torso when playing basketball. Hack (talk) 11:27, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
How often has the ball been passed to an official? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots14:14, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
None of the teams wear the gray color that is the standard official's uniform. It contrasts sufficiently with white that it doesn't cause a problem during games. --Jayron32 14:24, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
[Edit Conflict] Momentary confusion could cause players to hesitate, to their teams' detriment, without going so far as to result in any actual mis-aimed passes. However, the perceptions of TV viewers and even court/pitch spectators are not necessarily representative of those the actual players' experience – perhaps only someone who actually plays in the circumstances described could really answer the question. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 94.12.94.189 (talk) 14:31, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Since nobody else has pointed it out... The officials also don't have numbers and team logos emblazoned on their chests. Nor are the shirts the standard tank top sort that the players wear. †dismas†|(talk) 22:32, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for mentioning that D. It should also be noted that - in the age of 1000s of sports TV, radio, tweeting and blogging outlets - if this was a problem it would have been bloviated about somewhere. The refs are always open but I haven't seen anybody passing to them. MarnetteD|Talk 22:45, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's happened a few times. Even the great Tim Duncan has done it.[1] Clarityfiend (talk) 00:47, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wedding

[edit]

Who is the best wedding Planner in India? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vingsevents (talkcontribs) 12:08, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

That's a matter of opinion, we can't help you I'm afraid. Look at web forums, reviews of local businesses, etc. --Viennese Waltz 12:39, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The people who put together the Monsoon Wedding did a good job. MarnetteD|Talk 22:48, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
They would be especially good at arranging showers. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots23:51, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Of note: Weddings in India can be a completely different affair than weddings elsewhere. I attended one day of a 9-day wedding for a colleague's son. It included two separate concerts, a carnival, and a zoo. It was 9 days because the bride's older sister had an 8-day wedding and she wanted hers to be better. 209.149.113.5 (talk) 14:34, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Williams sisters and Federer/Nadal

[edit]

If Rafa Nadal makes the Australian Open final, then there will be Federer/Nadal in the Men's Final, and Venus and Serena Williams paired in the women's final. Has that combination happened before in a Grand Slam tournament, and when? (Bonus points - finish the thought: Age AND Beauty before youth and ??? ). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.210.155.173 (talk) 13:04, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, only once. In 2008 Nadal beat Federer in the Wimbledon Gentleman Singles final while Venus beat Serena in the Ladies Singles. 212.240.171.199 (talk) 13:40, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for that. I love it when someone gives a simple, direct answer to a straight ahead question on wikipedia. Lets hope if can happen again this year...thanks again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.210.155.173 (talk) 14:21, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not that I dispute the details provided, but this is a Reference Desk and it would be good to see where 212.240.171.199 got their information from. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 04:18, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It certainly happened in 2008, and it would take side-by-side comparison of List of Wimbledon gentlemen's singles champions and List of Wimbledon ladies' singles champions to see if there are any others. And then likewise for the other Grand Slam events. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots04:40, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
For the record I got the information from the Wikipedia page Williams sisters rivalry which gave me a list of finals they have contested, and then cross-referenced with each Grand Slam Former Winners page to check the relevant mens finals. I should have put that in my original answer, I accept. 212.240.171.199 (talk) 09:15, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

As the OP, just again I appreciate the good info, that someone did the 'work' to compare the data, and provide it here. I just watched Nadal win the semi - so we replay 2008. Brilliant. I wish I could replay 2008. Thanks all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.210.155.173 (talk) 13:59, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
