Yes, thank you! Doncsecztalk 17:38, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
(The) Fearless Four
[edit]This question is for someone familiar with Old-school hip hop. Is the name of the group Fearless Four just "Fearless Four" or "The Fearless Four"? The references in our article don't make it clear, and Google isn't any more helpful - I've also seen "Fearless 4", currently not even a redirect. I've been doing some link cleanup based on the question about the film above, and I'm not sure if more in the way of disambiguation is required. Tevildo (talk) 19:27, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
- The use (or non-use) of the direct article in band names is insanely controversial. Sometimes even band members can't agree. Whether or not the Eagles is "The Eagles" or just "Eagles" has been a point of contention, not just among Wikipedia editors concerned with silly minutiae, but also among band members. For example, Glenn Frey long maintained the bands name was "Eagles" (with no "the"), see [1]. However, Don Felder insists the name was really "The Eagles". See [2]. Perhaps that's why Felder and Frey famously got into a fistfight at their last show in 1980. I only bring that story up by analogy to this one to explain that these things are often confusing, and there may not even be an "official" answer. --Jayron32 20:01, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
- Indeed. The practical issue is - should The Fearless Four be (a) a redirect to the film, (b) a redirect to the group, or (c) a DAB page? If (c), the group's article should probably be at The Fearless Four (hip-hop), as I don't think there's a primary topic - until yesterday, there were eight mainspace links to The Fearless Four, four of which were for the group and four of which were for the film. Knowing that the group's "official" name is Fearless Four or Fearless 4 would, I think, resolve the issue. Tevildo (talk) 20:09, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
- For what it's worth, allmusic.com has them listed as "Fearless Four" (only, as best I can tell). Not sure where All Music stands on the RS scale, but it's a data point at least. --LarryMac | Talk 23:20, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks. Discogs.com (with a similar caveat about reliability) has their article at "The Fearless Four", and the photographs of their records on that site have four with "The Fearless Four", two with "Fearless 4", two with "Fearless", and one with "Fearless Four". I doubt we'll be able to converge on a single official name - are there sufficient fans out there to determine a common name? Tevildo (talk) 23:54, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
- No clue, but that's sufficient covers for me. Record companies may lie about a lot, but they're the authorities on billing their stuff. "The Fearless Four" it is, generally speaking. InedibleHulk (talk) 19:49, 13 February 2016 (UTC)

- Before entering the rabbit hole, have a look at this - and make sure to note that, as long as that page is, there are three archives to also go through. Not a good day on WP. Matt Deres (talk) 13:33, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
