Singer qualification

[edit]

I am just wondering about how to qualify as a singer here on Wikipedia. Does an actor/actress who sang in a film be considered a singer? Take for example Keira Knightley in her film Begin Again, she sings in the film but she's not considered a singer by the media. Rather, she's just considered an actress.Save Draft (talk) 01:08, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently Adam Levine considers her a singer and reportedly had offered her a recording deal. (What became of that?) Are you asking about the first sentence in the article ("... English actress and singer"), the infobox ("Occupation : Actress, singer"), the categorization (she is currently not categorized as singer of any kind) or information on her singing on screen (which is included in the article)? Regarding the first three items: Wikipedia:Notability (music) might serve as a guideline. ---Sluzzelin talk 01:49, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Model notability

[edit]

Hello everyone! I'm in the middle of creating a page (through sandbox) about Imogen Waterhouse. She is an up-and-coming model. I'm just wondering if a Tatler cover is enough to pass notability? She's the only featured model on the cover and it has a big profile inside. Is that enough?Save Draft (talk) 01:27, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Here's what "enough" means on Wikipedia. Ask yourself this one question "Can I write a reasonably informative and complete article about the subject using only information in scrupulously reliable sources?" If the answer is "yes", then write the article. If the answer is "No", then don't write the article. If there's enough reliable information outside of Wikipedia to write a good article do so. If there isn't, don't. --Jayron32 02:22, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The profile might count for something, depending what it says, but the cover itself doesn't mean anything. If there's another story about her making the cover (something like this "older" model), that'd be useful. InedibleHulk (talk) 22:41, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Not a lot here, but it's something. InedibleHulk (talk) 22:46, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

WKRP in Cincinnati

[edit]

There was at least 1 (and maybe more shows) that had a different Program Director then Andy Travis, and a husband and wife team of DJ's. Is there any info on those shows? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.244.5.60 (talk) 20:49, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think you're probably thinking of The New WKRP in Cincinnati. Deor (talk) 21:25, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That was my thought as well. There was one episode of the original series that looked at the station just before, or just as, Andy arrived. "The Creation of Venus" in season 4 (List of WKRP in Cincinnati episodes) but I don't remember the being a husband/wife team in that show. MarnetteD|Talk 21:30, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yea, our WKRP in Cincinnati articles lists 88 episodes (90 in syndication, which probably means a couple one hour episodes were made which were later broken into half hour episodes). IMDB says the character Andy Travis was in all 90 episodes: [1]. The only other possibility I can think of is if they had a pilot with different characters, as in the original Star Trek, and that therefore wasn't counted in the 90 episodes. StuRat (talk) 21:34, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like in the "new" version Dana Burns and Jack Allen were the married DJ's, and they had a new program director, too (Donovan Aderhold). StuRat (talk) 21:41, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Late 70s or early 80s animated feature

[edit]

I'm trying to recall the name of an animated feature film from the late 70s or early 80s. I would have seen the film in the summer of 1981, I'm sure of the date because I also saw Heavy Metal (film) that summer, either in Montreal (at an English language theatre) or Ottawa. It was about a family emigrating to the US but for some reason I thought it was about mice. I think that a Sex Pistols song was included in the soundtrack which would have put the film no earlier than 1977 (Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols). I had assumed that I was thinking of American Pop but having watched that recently I realised that I'd never seen it before. I've looked through Category:1970s animated films and Category:1980s animated films but with no success. Anybody got any ideas? CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 23:31, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

An American Tail fits the emigrating and the mice parts of your post. OTOH it was released in 86 so it is five years beyond your 1981 date. MarnetteD|Talk 23:37, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
An American Tail is the 1986 musical animated film (5 years later than you specified) about a family of immigrant mice, but I seriously doubt if the Sex Pistols are in the sound track. Perhaps you conflated two different things you saw/heard around the same time ? StuRat (talk) 23:37, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Don't know how we avoided an edit conflict Stu :-) MarnetteD|Talk 23:38, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yep. I've noticed Wikipedia seems to have some method of combining separate, simultaneous edits into one section now. It doesn't always work, but this time it did. StuRat (talk) 23:42, 20 February 2015 (UTC) [reply]
The Sex Pistols weren't in An American Tail, or seemingly anything that might fit (aside from American Pop). Of course, a lot of bands have tried to sound exactly like The Sex Pistols. InedibleHulk (talk) 23:49, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also doesn't have the Sex Pistols, and not emigration to the U.S. per se, but two films from the time period involving rodents emigrating (on the move) were Watership Down (about a messianic rabbit predicting doom and getting a bunch of rabbits to migrate) and The Secret of NIMH, which is basically the same story, substituting mice for rabbits. The plot doesn't match the plot you describe as well as An American Tail does, cited above, but they were produced (1978 and 1982 respectively) at a better time period for your recollection. --Jayron32 23:49, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And now we're posting together. Weird. InedibleHulk (talk) 23:51, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No, we had an edit conflict. You're got in first, and I had to repost mine. --Jayron32 00:11, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
On my end, you were already here. I looked about 20 seconds later, but didn't refresh the page. At least I don't think I did. Sorry for getting in the way.
I'm still stumped on Googling the answer, if it wasn't one of those. InedibleHulk (talk) 00:32, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops I did mean to say that it wasn't "An American Tail" either in my first post. I've seen "Watership Down" and "The Secret of NIMH" and it's not either of them. I just realised that InedibleHulk's link to the IMDB shows they did perform in American Pop doing "Anarchy in the UK". So that must be it and I mixed it up with some other film. Thanks all. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 00:36, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If we're all resolved here, I guess there's no harm in sharing this "Anarchy in Bedrock" pseudoanimation. It can sort of be about immigration, if you read far enough between the lines. Those Americans also tell a fine, fully animated tale of three little pigs and a big bad wolf (also contains subtext, if you look for it). InedibleHulk (talk) 01:10, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

One woman stage show

[edit]

I'm also looking for the name of a one woman stage show. I think I saw it on The Comedy Network. The entire show consists of the woman, her stage name is a play on Joan of Arc, talking about growing up in a small Quebec town and about playing hockey with the boys as organised by the local priest. Her hero was Bunny Larocque and she talks about her dream of playing in goal at the Montreal Forum. Any ideas? CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 23:31, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Seems almost certainly like Brigitte Gall, AKA Joan of Montreal. AKA the hopeful Reeve of Minden Hills. InedibleHulk (talk) 00:05, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. That must be it, see Me, My House & I#Brigitte Gall. She won a Gemini for it too. Unfortunately it does not seem to be available online, either legally or illegally, just like the original CBC showing of Billy Bishop Goes to War. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 00:50, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Fortunately, here it is. That may need you to be in Canada. I forget if you are. InedibleHulk (talk) 01:16, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Also, you may run into the same high-definition government ad starting (and stopping) repeatedly instead of the show. That's how it goes for me, but I've had this problem before on that site, and sometimes it just doesn't happen. Good luck! InedibleHulk (talk) 01:27, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And here's Billy. Not sure if that's the original version, or what the difference is. InedibleHulk (talk) 01:19, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'd seen neither of them before. The Billy Bishop one features an older Eric Peterson so it should be the newer version. I just noticed that the original was a joint CBC/BBC production so I'll try the BBC site. Strangely I never thought to look through the CBC or Comedy Network sites, just used Google. Your comment about being in Canada made me laugh as it brought back memories of the 1980s and earlier. You would order something from a southern Canadian company only to be told that they didn't ship outside of Canada. This was particularly strange coming from companies in Alberta. It always seemed strange that a company in Edmonton had no idea that the Northwest Territories was their northern neighbour. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 10:10, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The true North certainly counts as Canada in my books. Just forgot if you were from there, or to there, or still there or what. Those two channels have a huge free selection online. I think they're forced to by some CRTC rule, but not sure. I don't understand why they insist on running more ads and Javascript voodoo than many of the shadier pirate sites, but I guess it's their right, as lawful owners.
