what show is this

[edit]

204.112.104.172 (talk) 01:45, 8 August 2010 (UTC) what show with Mel Blanc is it that has the following line: "Oh that dirty b! I will mash him! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.112.104.172 (talk) 22:29, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That would be from the short "Bee-Deviled Bruin" starring Looney Tunes' The Three Bears. Steve T • C 22:39, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

what does a term mean

[edit]

I have looked at episode guides of shows, and i find numbers there. For example: What's with andy 304 don't shoot the messenjer. what does 304 mean? 204.112.104.172 (talk) 01:47, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Production code number, probably. LANTZYTALK 02:19, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I need clarification on it please. I looked at the article, and i got diddly squat out of it, sorry. 204.112.104.172 (talk) 04:25, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you're talking about List of What's with Andy? episodes, "Don't Shoot the Messenger" is episode 56. Since they started the production codes at 101 (for whatever reason), the production code is thus 156. Adam Bishop (talk) 05:55, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
They may have started at 101 to indicate season 1, episode 01. "Don't Shoot the Messenger" is the fourth episode in season 3, so 304 would fit with that reasoning (although production and airing schedules can differ). Which source uses that production number? Our current source is EPGuides.com but maybe that is mistaken and our article needs correcting. AJCham 06:34, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

where can i find a link with a forem about who was a better voice for judy jetson (janet waldo or tiffany), i have googled it, and no results, just bios and other stuff. I am not advanced enough to start a forem, all the sights require log ins, it's kind of dumb. So where can i find a link to find out what people think about who is a better judy jetson. 204.112.104.172 (talk) 02:54, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, yeah, most forums require an account, but it's not that hard. You can just create one, make the one post and then leave it. Chevymontecarlo 07:53, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ladykillers/ the2004 Coen Bros. movie

[edit]

What is the name of the Pancake house/hut in the movie Ladykillers? TKS Joe G —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.207.7.119 (talk) 06:39, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The script merely identifies it as an unnamed waffle house, but according to this lady's name tag it is called "Waffle Hut". AJCham 11:08, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Curiously, there wasn't a waffle restaurant of any kind in the original film. Alansplodge (talk) 12:29, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Movie of Jetsons again

Phantom Zone
The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

Dear wikipedians, i tried creating a TV.com account, and it failed. I am turning to you people again, and i would like a more rellevent answer to this question please. No more talking about forems, as i mention on my talk page, the forem that was created was not by me. This question is for suggestions on who i could recommend to Warner Brothers or another company to do the voice of the characters. Who would be a good possible candidate for the voices of the following jetsons characters? Note: I know it is hard to replace someone like Mel Blanc, he was ausom! Just put the name beside the character's please. Thanks 1000000 tons! 204.112.104.172 (talk) 08:31, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

George Jetson: Jane Jetson: Elroy Jetson: Judy Jetson: Astro: Cosmo Spacely: R.U.D.I.: Rosie the Robot: Mr. Cogswell: Henry Orbit:

As the notice at the top of this page says, "The reference desk does not answer requests for opinions". Deor (talk) 09:29, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

204.112.104.172 (talk) 10:03, 8 August 2010 (UTC) It is simple, who could do voices for the characters in a new jetsons animated movie. My chances of failing to find out from this reference are as low as yuki nagato from some show has of coming into real existence and saying "hi" to me, which is 0%, in other words, i will stop at nothing to make this jetsons movie a success. A better answer, not about forems or what to do or what not to do, unless it will get me names for those characters, simple really. I mean no harm, I just want to make a good movie that is still authenticly jetsons that people will love for years to come! just help me pleaseeeee! No more telling me to forget it, if i se that again, put it this way, comet tuttles will hear about it, and i will ask him/her, as they seem like a helpful person. PS: I am starting to lose faith in this reference page, so i would like some help for this movie. pleaseeeee! pleaseeeee! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.112.104.172 (talk) 10:24, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You removed this remark I placed on your talk page but it applies equally here:

"The deal is, you stop turning this page into a forum and we stop telling you not to do it. Simple, really."
And is the "Annika" you say is posting on your talk page without your consent also blind? I ask because she seems to make the same spelling mistakes that you do. Britmax (talk) 10:39, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I will look in to it, some people make the same mistakes, it's a big world, and don't use blindness as descrim man, please. I don't know anything about her, i know her name is Annika, and I notice that too. Either she is coppying me, or both of us are bad at our spelling. I can only find out so much about her, but let's stay on the subject. I just want a few names, eg: Tress McNeille. I am going to talk to Comet Tuttles now, and if they have anything to say about this, it would probably be something like "Just answer his question and it will be over." What's wrong in wanting a movie made? These people think it's a crime to want to make a movie! 204.112.104.172 (talk) 11:03, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing's wrong with wanting a movie to be made, but this is not the appropriate venue for your questions. You've been told that several times and yet you continue. Furthermore you seem to suggest you will keep going until you get a satisfactory response. Such action would be disruptive and could get you blocked. Seriously, stop this now – this reference desk serves a useful purpose and by trying to misappropriate it for your own ends you are ruining the experience of others and wasting people's time. AJCham 11:25, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is Annika. Can you just answer his question? I have a confession to make, and I could’t care less if I am making it in the wrong place. I was messing with his talk page, I did try to put up a forum to help him, and I did copy his spelling mistakes as best I could, as I want to get into a business of typing. No britmax, I am not blind, Is it because I copied his spelling mistakes? Anyway, just answer his question with some names, I saw his message to me, He is not what I thought he was. For the good of this reference section, please answer his question relevantly, and remember, you are talking to him, not me, thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.112.104.172 (talk) 11:32, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I will act for the good of this reference section. Unfortunately for your aims my feeling is still that this is best served by reminding you (whoever you are) that this is not a forum. I gave you a link and you would probably be advised to open an account there and start a thread on the subject that interests you. Britmax (talk) 11:40, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To annika. This is not right to mess with someone's account, nor is it right to make it look like i am trying to mess with this page, just because i am unable to create an account because i cannot remember my E-mail. This is not fare, and it should be you getting this blocked stuff for going in and modifying the comments of someone who shares this IP address, either way, I don't want to se this again! Thanks for trying to help, but it just won't work! and who's this Yuki you put into my reply? No more doing this, it isn't right! right wikipedians? 204.112.104.172 (talk) 11:46, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Who is the highest paid footballer in the world?

[edit]

who is the highest paid footballer in the world and how much does he earn per year? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 218.186.8.240 (talk) 08:37, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean soccer, American, Aussie Rules, rugby, or all of the above? Britmax (talk) 08:42, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Such clarification is unnecessary, in most of the world it's quite clear which sport is being referred to. --Viennese Waltz talk 08:52, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, which is it then? Britmax (talk) 08:55, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sigh, soccer of course. I don't know the answer by the way, and such information is rarely made available by the clubs. --Viennese Waltz talk 09:02, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Why do you assume that? Some of these American Football players are quite highly paid. And the questioner may want to know which American Football player is paid the most without reference to soccer at all. In soccer, according to a couple of searches I did it would be Lionel Messi. At the moment. Britmax (talk) 09:08, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Because on the balance of probabilities he's talking about soccer. Because he said in the world and there are precious few players of any type of football except soccer outside the USA. Because he's in Singapore. And so on. --Viennese Waltz talk 09:21, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And because Americans seldom call gridiron players "footballers". Deor (talk) 09:27, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) I may be wrong, but I don't think it is usual for an American to refer to a football player as a 'footballer', instead preferring the aforementioned term 'football player'. As far as I can tell almost all references to gridiron players as 'footballers' tend to be made by foreigners (from a US perspective) for whom football more usually means soccer or another variant. If the OP was such a person they would have almost certainly disambiguated 'American footballers' if necessary. If they were referring to rugby or Aussie Rules one would expect them to be aware enough of the sport's relatively lesser status globally and therefore disambiguate those also.
In answer to the question this source indicates that it is Lionel Messi who earns $43.3m a year. That includes endorsements as well as his reputed $292k/pw salary (~$15m per annum), though I expect that is a record on its own – it's almost 50% higher than Ronaldo's paltry $200k. Of course that report is now two months old so who knows what has changed since then, and what will change in the coming weeks prior to the closure of the transfer window. Also, you'll have noticed that the linked report only lists players from the World Cup, and as such David Beckham is not mentioned. However, reports such as this from the Telegraph indicate that Messi outranks him anyway. AJCham 09:52, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting that Americans tend to call Gridiron players that rather than footballers. I doidn't know that. Britmax (talk) 10:08, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
They don't. In North America, we tend to refer to our athletes as "***** players", with ***** being whatever sport it is. Exceptions may including bowling and darts. Aaronite (talk) 18:03, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
So what do Americans call darts players? AndrewWTaylor (talk) 20:33, 8 August 2010 (UTC) [reply]
Drunks? Everard Proudfoot (talk) 20:42, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Tossers? Aaronite (talk) 00:41, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That makes me ask (maybe better for the language desk): anyone know of any resources that list only the hilarious differences between UK and US English? We all know truck/lorry, but what about fanny pack? Aaronite (talk) 00:44, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And Herb who eats erbs in the US but herbs everywhere else. -- 202.142.129.66 (talk) 04:33, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There are several WP articles on UK/US differences, as recently discussed on the Language Desk. AndrewWTaylor (talk) 08:47, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sports Illustrated just tackled this question with their Fortunate 50 U.S. and highest 20 international athletes ranked by total income from playing + endorsements. (Unfortunately, to the writer, "international" means "foreigners" — David Beckham is on the "international" list though he's playing for Major League Soccer in the US — so to get the real "international" list you'll have to open the two web pages and read them simultaneously.) It looks like the answer to the original poster's question is Lionel Messi, as mentioned above; in total, five athletes worldwide appear to have earned more than Messi in the past year. Why do sports players often spit?

[edit]

Hello, does anybody know why sports players often spit in the game? --Merry Rabbit (talk) 13:24, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I can only comment on this from my own experience of participating in sports, but I notice that as I become less hydrated the saliva which builds up in the mouth has a thicker consistency, even coming close to the consistency of a light syrup. This combined with shortness of breath makes swallowing very difficult, even leading to choking/coughing, so one feels forced to spit to get rid of excess saliva. My level of fitness and quality of diet are, however, severely lacking compared to professional athletes, so my experience may not be analogous to theirs. AJCham 13:59, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To get rid of 'flem' or 'spit' from their mouth which may be making it more difficult to breath as easily/comfortably. Obviously there's potentially spitting 'at' people out of aggression, perhaps even some doing it out of 'habit' or 'nerves' or something but generally it'll be to get spit out of their mouth. If you've ever been bunged-up and player sports it can be quite annoying the amount of liquid your body produces for you. ny156uk (talk) 14:03, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's "phlegm". 81.131.1.93 (talk) 15:39, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I remember in Little League during offense we would sit on the bench and see who could make the biggest 'spit puddle.' Looking at it from a psychological standpoint it had to have been a sort of egoism. Hope that disambiguation page leads to some good insight! schyler (talk) 23:18, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

See Frenchy Bordagaray for a semi-related anecdote. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots23:26, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Another famous spitting incident, in the world of footballers, involved Frank Rijkaard and Rudi Völler in 1990 (but I don't think this is the kind of spitting Merry Rabbit is asking about). ---Sluzzelin talk 23:33, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Back in the old days, much of the spitting in baseball games was a result of the players' fondness for chewing tobacco, although our article says that this is now prohibited. Deor (talk) 00:45, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There was much media ado about Francesco Totti's spitting at Christian Poulsen during a UEFA Euro 2004 game. --Theurgist (talk) 06:53, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Help with media of Alameda County, CA

[edit]

Hi! I'm from fi-wikipedia and I try to make article about Alameda County eature article (Now GA). Can someone listed some biggest newspapers, radio channels and etc. media for me? And if someone do that, can you please note me for that :)-Henswick (talk) 15:26, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Oakland Tribune is probably the largest newspaper in the county. Other newspapers are the Tri-Valley Herald, the East Bay Express, the Hayward Daily Review, Fremont Argus and Alameda Times-Star. Radio stations include KPFA, KKIQ, KALX and KFAX. KTVU is the television station in Oakland. Everard Proudfoot (talk) 20:48, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Colleges tend to have newspapers, as well, such as the Daily Californian. Everard Proudfoot (talk) 20:52, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
