[edit]Christmas Carol
[edit]I have this carol stuck in my head (at first, I thought it was my own composition). The solfege is roughly: m-r-d-l-t-d-t-l d-d-r-r-m-s-f-m-r-d-t-l This is all I remember. It's also in a minor. 203.188.92.70 (talk) 07:49, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
This question was completely unanswered (and also a pretty resonable one), so I'm reposting it. Vltava 68 (talk contribs) 08:29, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- Unfortunately the more correct "we three astrologers" (Matthew 2:2, New English Bible) doesn't scan.--Shantavira|feed me 13:47, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- In my Bible, it's Magi, but I use NIV. 203.188.92.71 (talk) 14:06, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
Neither is it true that they came 'one in a taxi, one in a car,one in a scooter, pipping his hooter' contrary to popular playground beliefs ;) Lemon martini (talk) 11:56, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
A List of Mexican Singers who Know English
[edit]Would you put a list of Mexican singers who know English? Ericthebrainiac (talk) 00:00, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- First, you must explain why it is notable enough to have an article. -- kainaw™ 00:09, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- Eric, you got half lucky. See "Category:Mexican singers" and "Category:Mexican singers by gender" (by copy/pasting into search box). After that, you're on your own. Julia Rossi (talk) 05:37, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- Please clarify what you are looking for. Do you just mean that they know how to speak English (in which case I'm with Kainaw in wondering about the notability), or are you looking for Mexican performers who actually sing in English?DocRocktopus (talk) 06:10, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
DOS
[edit]What is the best-selling MS-DOS game? JCI (talk) 00:24, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- Does this exclude games that ran in MS-DOS, but released long after Windows was common (such as the first Tomb Raider game)? -- kainaw™ 01:28, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- A lot of popular DOS games (like the current windows ones) are illegally copied and not necessarily sold. I think the Commander Keen series makes a good chance as does the original Doom. - Mgm|(talk) 07:58, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- It's gotta be Doom. Myst, according to the article, never had a DOS-port. Belisarius (talk) 06:56, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- I asked about the restriction because many games - well into the Windows 98 days - were DOS. In order to run them, you had to restart your computer in DOS mode. Quake and Tomb Raider are two that I remember. It was possible to get them to function in a DOS window in Windows, but it wasn't optimal. I'm sure there were many more. If the question is limiting itself to games before Windows 3 became popular, then this is a completely different question. -- kainaw™ 14:29, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I would think that any game that ran on the MS-DOS platform would count. Clearly, Doom is a DOS game, even though it came out three years after Windows 3. And honestly, I don't think there are any real competitors to Doom, it's easily one of the most sold games of all time, and since Myst didn't come out on DOS (and The Sims was much later), that has to be the one. Belisarius (talk) 19:57, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- According to List of best-selling video games#PC, Populous sold 4 million, though it looks like that was spread over many platforms. The DOS version was a significant chunk of that no doubt. The original Doom does not appear on that list, though Doom II does. the wub "?!" 21:42, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- Doom is not easily one of the most sold games of all time. Id made sure everyone knew that Quake outsold Doom. As I mentioned before, Quake was designed to run without Windows - just DOS. There was a port called WinQuake that allowed you to run it reasonably well in Windows - but you had to purchase the DOS version of Quake to run WinQuake. -- kainaw™ 21:46, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
Carmageddon Question
[edit]I have Carmageddon and when i complete the car crusher mission There comes up an rear end of car dragging television. What car does it resemble.
I'm R,e-Posting it 217.28.177.57 (talk) 11:44, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- If you posted a picture of the car, we'd be much more likely to be able to identify it. Algebraist 11:46, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
I will post it when My camera is not Battery Low, But thx 217.28.177.57 (talk) 11:48, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- This question was asked before. Nobody had an answer then. Giving some more info (especially a picture) would be helpful. -- kainaw™ 13:33, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- You don't need a camera. You can try to get your computer to make a screenshot using the PrintScrn button and pasting what you get in paint and post that here. - 87.211.75.45 (talk) 19:02, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- IIRC he said it was on the playstation last time, not going to work on his PC. I haven't played Carmageddon in years - have just dug it out and am contemplating installing it (and found a demo disc from PCZone August 1997 in the box... I really ought to get rid of all these CDs...) - If he doesn't manage to post a photo, I'll see if I can get a screenshot up-- WORMMЯOW 21:57, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- After installing it, I can't find a race called "Car Crusher". I've been naughty and cheated to access all races, can you tell me what rank you need to be at to get to the race? -- WORMMЯOW 22:17, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- "Car crusher" is one of the multi-player modes (the others are "fox and hounds" and "checkpoint stampede"). -- kainaw™ 17:53, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, can't access the multiplayer mode in my version - need networking which I haven't worked out how to do through DOSBox. Looks like a picture's the way to go -- WORMMЯOW 16:33, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

How short a season would Major League Baseball be willing to have?
[edit]With the NFL strike, there was a 9-game season in 1982; the NBA and NHL have each seasons of about 50 games. Baseball has never had to deal with a really shortenned season, but have they talked about it? Say, for instance, the 1981-strike-shortned season had seen the strike last till September. Or, the 1994 season had begun with a strike.lockout? (Presumably with owners trying to sign replacement players to play that shortened season, as they tried to start 1995)
My guess is that they might be willing to go for less than half - two months' worth would be really short, but they accepted 50-60 games as half a season where the winners made the playoffs.Somebody or his brother (talk) 23:03, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- Well, if 1994 was any indication, they were willing to just quit for good... --Jayron32.talk.contribs 00:11, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- I guess that makes sense since the players and owners couldn't agree there and they just scrapped things, if they had had a strike or lockout at the beginning of some season and it went till July, a 60-game season is possible after a couple weeks of spring training (well, summer training). (As I said, perhaps with owners threatening to start on July 1 with replacements before an agreement was reached. It would be kind of easy, if you just accepted 2-game series home and away for 4 games each against the other teams, in 1994 that would be 52 games, if you had a season start in August.)
- I'm guessing baseball never thought about it, even in 1981. And, since a winner ewas declared for each half after only 50 games, this is possible.Somebody or his brother (talk) 18:33, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- The thing about baseball is that the 162-game season is outrageously long. The NFL does fine with a 16 game season; even College Basketball generally gets by with a 30 game regular season. The relatively mild pace of an individual baseball game makes the 162-game season reasonable (that players won't break down, etc. etc.); however one could easily determine a league champion for each league with only a 30 game season or so (which would give you an intra-league home-and-away double-round-robin between all teams). In this manner, Baseball is better positioned to manage a short season than other sports. It also why football, with its 16-game schedule, was forced to use scabs in 1987 while no other sport has; one NFL game is equivalent to TWO WEEKS of games in baseball... --Jayron32.talk.contribs 21:25, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
