[edit]Tila Tiquila
[edit]I have a bet with my husband that there was a comedienne years ago with the name Tila Tiquila. I can't seem to find anything about her online. I am certain she existed. Can anyone help? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.179.14.241 (talk) 05:23, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- Wikipedia does have an article on Tila Tequila. She's still quite active. ---Sluzzelin talk 07:25, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
That is not the one I am talking about, my husband says he has never heard of the older one but I am convinced there was a comedienne with the same name in the 70s early 80s. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.179.14.241 (talk) 17:33, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- A suitable period of silence having elapsed, I'm officially opening the "maybe you meant..." series of answers. Entries need only enough similarity to the requested name that confusing them would be possible if they were heard 20 years apart. I'll start with Judy Tenuta. --tcsetattr (talk / contribs) 20:45, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for the info I hate to admit it BUT, the hubby wins. I do think it was Judy Tenuta..rats, I was so sure —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.179.14.241 (talk) 02:26, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Langauge
[edit]Why do even the Japanese versions of some NES and SNES games have English text? 208.76.245.162 (talk) 09:25, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- Business. The translation expense can be quite high, so it's only worth it for games that will probably do well in that market. -LambaJan (talk) 16:23, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- You might want to reread the question. Someoneinmyheadbutit'snotme (talk) 18:23, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- Do you mean English subtitles, or that they have only English text and no Japanese? I would guess most games would have the option to select between a few different languages, so they only have to produce one set of the game that can be distributed to many countries. JessicaN10248 12:13, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- It doesn't have much to do with Japan specific or Japanese versions of games reaching an international audience. This is a simple domestic marketing decision, for the same reason that all Japanese cars sold in Japan have names in English and English labels on all the buttons. English language is a required part of Japanese Educational curriculum starting in the 7th grade, and many start learning even younger. Therefor the vast majority at a bare minimum can read, understand and pronounce most simple words like "go", "fight", "battle", etc. Story and tutorials are almost always exclusively in Japanese. 43.244.202.234 (talk) 09:11, 8 July 2008 (UTC)LivingInJapan
TV show
[edit]There was a TV show I saw a few years ago and am looking to find. The plot revolved around a single mother and her daughter and a single father and his son. The mother dated the son and the father dated the daughter. I think the daughter was played by Billie Piper. Can anyone name the show? -- Escape Artist Swyer Talk to me The mess I've made 20:14, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- That doesn't ring any bells, but if you know one of the actors involved, that's where IMDB comes in. Is any of the shows listed in Piper's entry the one you're looking for? If not, then you at least know that it wasn't her. (IMDB tends to be extremely dependable with things like this.) -- Captain Disdain (talk) 20:31, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
: That's premise of Three Up, Two Down, although that's older than the timeframe you describe, and starred Lysette Anthony as the daughter, not Billie Piper. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 20:37, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- Oops, I didn't read your question properly - 3u2d didn't cross the generations as you describe. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 20:40, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- I don't have the answer, but please tell me the show's theme song wasn't I'm My Own Grandpa. 152.16.16.75 (talk) 10:05, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- No, but that is the premise. --Escape Artist Swyer Talk to me The mess I've made 16:28, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
I've looked at the IMDB page and am now thinking that the daughter must have been played by someone else. Hmm. All I know is the premise and that it was shown on UK terrestrial TV. -- Escape Artist Swyer Talk to me The mess I've made 16:26, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- Damn, I have vague recollections of seeing this, but due to the vagueness, it's really difficult to google. I'll give it another shot later. ---Sluzzelin talk 06:49, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
