Wikipedia:Peer review/Sonic the Hedgehog/archive1

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm planning to bring this article to FAC very soon, as I want to get it to FA status in time for the 30th anniversary so it can be featured on the main page on June 23, 2021. Any comments are appreciated. Thanks! JOEBRO64 23:38, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

While I'm not sure how quickly I'll get to looking, consider this my notice that I intend to add feedback. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Red Phoenix talk 01:29, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • @TheJoebro64: I promise I haven't forgotten, I've just been busy, and most of the edits I've done since have been what I can do on my cell phone. I don't like to review without my computer, but I'll try and spit out some for you soon and do a full review later.
    • A quick couple of things in the Music section based on my work on Crush 40: It doesn't feel right to say they've composed music for "most" Sonic games since 3D Blast. Senoue's first was Sonic Adventure, and the impression I get is he didn't actually contact Johnny Gioeli until after "Open Your Heart" was written - he actually recorded a demo with Eizo Sakamoto. Johnny's first writing in the series was the lyrics to "Live and Learn" in SA2, and Senoue has repeatedly stated that Crush 40 is specifically him and Johnny. Also, I look at all the Game Boy Advance games they didn't compose, and Senoue was no longer the lead composer after Sonic Generations, up to Team Sonic Racing.
    • There are other notable musicians who have performed on a Sonic game as well: Akon (STH 2006), two of the members of All Ends (Black Knight), Ted Poley and Tony Harnell just to name a few. Truthfully, there may actually be enough coverage for a "Music of the Sonic the Hedgehog series" article down the road - I wouldn't want you to clutter this up.

@TheJoebro64: Here's some more for you.

  • It's gonna be not fun, but take the time to thumb through all your references for consistent formatting. I learned the hard way at the FAC for Sega that a serious source reviewer is going to look at formatting very strictly, and that means consistency all the way across the board. See here to get an idea of what I mean - had I not had a patient reviewer and been at it every day for about a week, it would've just been a solid oppose. And this article has more footnotes than Sega. So, I would start this now - ISSN's and publishers are an all-or-nothing proposition. Names and links should be consistent. I won't take the time now to go through it all, but there's quite a few inconsistencies as I scroll through the list. (If you do clean it up, I might be willing to check for remnants that are inconsistent).
  • You do have some links missing archives in the reflist too. If IAManagementBot didn't get them, it's possible it may not be archived on web.archive.org, but you can go there, insert the URL, and force it to make an archive as long as the site is still up.
  • You may want to throw in a mention of Sonic Forces Speed Battle, another game developed by Hardlight. I'm still deciding whether or not an article could be written about it, but it sure seems plausible. Also not sure if you want to mention that Team Sonic Racing made its way to Apple Arcade as Sonic Racing, Sonic's first appearance on a streaming device/microconsole.
  • In your sales chart, 3D Blast was also a Saturn title; just making sure, are the sales listed just for the Genesis version?
  • Don't forget your alternative text for images.

Overall, very nicely done. I won't nitpick the prose because it seems quite solid and some of my nitpicking would probably be personal taste over encyclopedic tone. There's definitely things to do with sources, and don't underestimate how long that will take. I'd do a little bit each day and come back to it to avoid being ground down. • You've got a Red Link to "Simon "Stealth" Thomley" which can't be in an FA. You've got a few Red Links actually, and my understanding is that it can't pass FA with them present.
  • The hat note I personally would just take down to "For other uses see Sonic the Hedgehog disambiguation". It's not necessary to have so many links, and it probably won't be the last thing called just Sonic the Hedgehog ever.
  • The rest seems fine, I can't argue with the comprehensiveness and you've properly backed up all the references. Good job. Darkwarriorblake / SEXY ACTION TALK PAGE! 21:50, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Darkwarriorblake: thanks for taking a look. I've done everything except for removing the Simon Thomley redlink. Per WP:REDLINK, redlinks are perfectly acceptable and even encouraged for use in articles if the redlinked term is notable (Thomley would unquestionably pass our notability guidelines IMO). I've encountered no problem using redlinks in the past. JOEBRO64 16:53, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
