IMPORTANT: Can someone please call the pub and reserve a table(s) for at least 10 people - my phone ran out of credit! Please sign below if you are going to do it:) Poeloq (talk) 14:34, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- Done, they're putting out the reserved notices as I type. Apparently someone has already arrived! Kbthompson (talk) 16:51, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
We are proud to announce, after just one week of planning, the 7th London Wikipedia meetup! This Saturday, January 12, all London Wikipedians are invited to join us at the Pembury Tavern in Hackney, East London.
Note: Please don't discuss on this page, use the talk page. However, feel free to edit out mistakes and add information that may be useful and I forgot! The old discussioned is archived here
Location: Pembury Tavern
[edit]Pembury Tavern, suggested by Gordo and described bySilkTork as the "THE buzz pub of the moment", is located 90 Amhurst Road, Hackney, E8 1JH (click the address for Google Maps) in Hackney, East London. It won the The Society for the Preservation of Beers from the Wood Pub of the Year 2007 award.
When deciding what pub we should go to the decision was quite heated, and the Pembury attracted many supporters as also opponents (5 for, 5 against). However, the main concern of not being close to transport will be addressed in a detail description of how to get to the location by various transport methods.

I'm possibly expecting a weekend visitor (not sure yet!) but if not and I'm in London I'll try to make it.Sorry; visitor visited! --AlisonW (talk) 01:17, 11 January 2008 (UTC)Blue Phoenix (talk) Slightly short notice! I've been a bit ill lately (onion bhajis are Satan. That's based on anecdotal evidence though, mind you, and that statement do with a neutral ref! Ha, I'm so witty) and did have something planned for tomorrow, but we'll see. This is pretty easy to get to for me. If I don't make this one I'd certainly consider other meets.- Obviously couldn't make it. Let me know about the next one, but preferably more than few days in advance.
- Short notice - but tempting. Parmesan (talk) 19:26, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Not attending
[edit]- David Gerard (talk) Prior booking, sadly (getting drunk with perverts. Other perverts). But I heartily commend the choice of the Pembury, given it's my regular - David Gerard (talk) 00:42, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- Arkady Rose (talk) I suspect it won't be a particularly baby-friendly event, so I'll be staying home with the baby, I'm afraid! But seconding David's comment concerning the Pembury. :-) Arkady Rose (talk) 01:12, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- Kaihsu (talk) 10:32, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- Harry Wood (talk) - Can't make it sadly. Already arranged a kayaking weekend. Next time I'm definately there though.
- Adambro (talk) Up north at the parents over this weekend, interested next time though and the concerns about transport seems to have been addressed.

How to get there: London Transport made easy
[edit]Hackney is, as some people pointed out, not exactly the most easiest to get to - if one doesn't know how. And since the London Overground has been introduced it has become a lot easier:
The closest stop is Hackney Downs.... but there is no service to Liverpool Street this weekend!! see here
Using London Underground and bus:
- From:
- King's Cross: go to King's Cross Station, Bus Stop E - take Bus routBuse 30 towards St. Marys Of Eton Church. Get off at Hackney Downs.
- Angel, Islington: go to Angel Station Stop X take the bus route 38 towards Lea Bridge Roundabout. Get off at Hackney Downs.
- Waterloo: first take the Waterloo & City Line towards Bank, at Bank change to the Central Line towards Epping/Hainault and exit the tube at Bethnal Green. At Bethnal Green take bus 254 (towards Caledonian Road), 106 (towards Finsbury Park) or D6 (towards Pembury Road / Dalston Lane), all leaving from Stop C.
Without bus: If you prefer not taking the bus, you can take the tube to Highbury & Islington or Stratford and change to the the London Overground taking a train to Hackney Central.
These are all buses that serve the pub:
- 30
- 38
- 48
- 55
- 56
- 106
- 242
- 253
- 254
- 394
- W15
- Night bus N38
- Night bus N253
- 277 (24 hour bus, close enough)
Go to http://www.tfl.gov.uk and get your individual route and map by entering the postcode (E8 1JH) as your destination.
