IN CONTRAVENTION OF WIKIPEDIA's stated referencing of sources POLICY, SOME EDITOR going by the THE NAME OF J F DERRY HAS most recently PUBLISHED STATEMENTS ABOUT PUBLISHED RESEARCH ON YOUR Patrick Matthew PAGE. He has referenced a blog site only for his sources and his own claimed private email conversations. Many of the claims made from the blog site he quotes and references are, arguably, completely misleading. Please can this be sorted out by an objective Wikipedia n accordance with Wikipedia referencing guidelines - and requirement of interdependently verifiable evidence.

Many thanks in advance152.71.156.113 (talk) 12:09, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Edits thus far look perfectly legit to me. General Ization Talk 12:15, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I looked through all the editor's recent additions and agree with General Ization that there is little that gives obvious cause for concern. If you could indicate which edits you are feel are problematical it could be discussed further. However, this really is a content dispute and concerns should be raised on the article talk page or that of the other editor. Eagleash (talk) 12:23, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps this is the edit in question. But the original poster really needs to identify what it is they see as a problem among JFDerry's numerous recent contributions. And this is really not the place for this kind of report. General Ization Talk 12:25, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The IP in question also raised the issue on the talk page for the article, I'll try to engage them there. --Krelnik (talk) 13:42, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
A disproportionate amount of the article seems to be about a recent scholarly dispute involving someone called Sutton, whose name appears 39 times. I believe the article could be improved by deleting most or all of this material. Maproom (talk) 13:46, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Mike Sutton (criminologist) is the 'someone' in question. The amount of coverage of that aspect does seem a bit undue. Eagleash (talk)
Yes, and (as I noted on the talk page) it seems quite interesting and relevant that the IP address above is geolocated at the university where Sutton works. Also of note, there have been past sockpuppet investigations involving accounts that have edited this article, Sutton's bio, and related articles. --Krelnik (talk) 18:15, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

National Aviation Facilities Experimental Center

[edit]

National Aviation Facilities Experimental Center (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

NAFEC, the William J. Hughes Technical Center and the Atlantic City Airport are located mostly in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey not in Galloway Township as indicated in the below Wikipedia entry. It is the Egg Harbor Township Police Department that provides services to these locations not the Galloway Township Police.

The National Aviation Facilities Experimental Center (NAFEC) was founded July 1, 1958, by the Airways Modernization Board (AMB) and located in Galloway Township, New Jersey, near Atlantic City, New Jersey. On November 1, 1959, after passage of the Federal Aviation Act of 1958, it came under the newly created US Federal Aviation Agency (FAA).[1] Its purpose was to conduct research and development on air traffic control computers, transponders, and advanced radar equipment. The success (in terms of funding and research activity) eventually forced the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) to close its own Technical Evaluation and Development Center in Indianapolis starting in 1959. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.151.138.211 (talk) 13:09, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Was there a question here? This is a Help Desk. If a request to correct an article, this should be posted on the article's Talk page, citing appropriate sources. General Ization Talk 13:18, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I note also that there is overlap between the article queried and the article William J. Hughes Technical Center, which also specifies Galloway Township. One point that occurs, the queried article effectively states that the NAFEC was located in Galloway Township in 1958; the OP claims that it (renamed) is now in Egg Harbour Township – might boundaries have changed in the intervening 59 years? {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.217.208.38 (talk) 13:30, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Good article editing

[edit]

When I've received a response to my comment on a GA edit page, how do I remove the comment: spent 30 minutes trying! (See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Fordham_University .) Jzsj (talk) 15:04, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Jzsj. The answer is that you don't. You are permitted to remove material from your own User Talk page (though archiving it is generally preferred), but material should noramlly be removed from other talk pages only when it is contrary to Wikipedia's policies (eg copyright violation or personal attacks). Otherwise talk page discussions are left in situ as a record. See WP:REDACT. --ColinFine (talk) 15:53, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the quick reply. This policy leads one to be sparing in requests for help. @ColinFine: Jzsj (talk) 16:19, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't take it that way, Jzsj. We were all new editors once, and some of us didn't ask for help as often as we might have! There's nothing shameful in asking for help. --ColinFine (talk) 17:52, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I thought it more shaming the article than myself: over 19,000 edits and I never hope to get on to all the complexities in Wiki: only took this (and another) on in return for an article I submitted for GA. @ColinFine: Jzsj (talk) 18:31, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I need a mentor with editing

[edit]

Can wikipedia provide one to me please? 50.68.118.24 (talk) 17:09, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user/Adoptee's Area is something that would be helpful for you. It lists many editors like SoWhy, who are open to adopting new editors. Thanks. Lourdes 17:47, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki markup to generate something like this? (see below)

[edit]

Hello, I am wondering how to generate a box with a dashed outline and code-like font. To know what I am talking about, see this page under "Easy examples": https://web.archive.org/web/20131102203944/http://www.upsb.info/wiki/index.php?title=Combo_transformation#Easy_examples

It seems like it may be advanced text formatting. There is a background color, dashed outline, particular font size, and the wiki edit font. Do I have to do something similar to:

{|style="border-spacing:8px; margin:0px -8px; width: 100%"
| style="width:100%; border:1px solid #cef2e0; background:#f5fffa; vertical-align:top; color:#000;"|
{|width="100%" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="5" ....(more code)....

Any code I could copy-paste or suggestions as to where I could see/learn similar markup would be appreciated. Thank you for your time. 104.10.252.77 (talk) 18:20, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

EDIT: Okay I inspected the page and found out these details:
padding: 1em;
border: 1px dashed #2f6fab;
color: black;
background-color: #f9f9f9;
line-height: 1.1em;
I am just not sure how to put them together...
104.10.252.77 (talk) 18:46, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

RESOLVED: I managed to reverse engineer an HTML box thing I found on another wiki to create my own. Confusing and not sure if there is redundant code in the markup, but it should do the trick. 104.10.252.77 (talk) 20:34, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's a styling for text in <pre>...</pre> or lines starting with spaces. Wikipedia was previously styled like your link but has changed to the below. Maybe it was a default styling in the MediaWiki software. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:55, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This line is in pre tags
This line starts with a space
Hmm okay. Thank you for responding and for the information. To tell the truth my question was actually not for Wikipedia itself but I posted here because I figured the information would transfer pretty smoothly to the other wiki I am editing on. Anyway, have a nice day. 104.10.252.77 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 21:23, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Query about Category of 2017 deathts

[edit]

Why is it that if one goes to Category: 2017 deaths some names are put into months of their death, whereas other names just appear on a general list? Vorbee (talk) 19:35, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Vorbee: Category: 2017 deaths is a category. Categories can only contain pages which are added to the category by editing the page. Deaths in January 2017 is a list which is just a type of article and completely different from a category. There are no categories for deaths by month. Lots of people with biographies are both in the yearly category and one of the monthly lists. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:44, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Quastion about "See also" section

[edit]

Hi , Could I make a link in "See also " section of 1988 executions of Iranian political prisoners to 1991 uprisings in Iraq ? because 2 articles are about People's Mujahedin of Iran . thanks Khobi1396 (talk) 21:36, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No. As you will see in WP:SEEALSO, that's not what a "See also" section is for. --Orange Mike | Talk 01:05, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
