Blocking an IP user whose IP address continually changes?

[edit]

Is there any way for an IP user to be blocked if their IP address continually changes? An IP user with a non-static IP address has been making disruptive edits to one particular article for over a month now. I've tried requesting for the page to be semi-protected but my request was denied on the grounds that there was not a sufficient enough amount of disruptive editing to justify protection. This IP user has also been making similar disruptive edits to other pages, so I was wondering if there was a way to block them? JayJ47 (talk) 02:29, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

When I look for disruptive editing, I'm looking for edit summaries that link to WP:BRD, invite to article talk, etc. I don't see any of that in that article, which leaves the possibility that the user is simply clueless about correct editing process. We all start out that way, and new editors generally don't learn about things like BRD until someone points them out, either in editsums or on their user talk page. I would at least establish a history of that; if the user ignores hostility-free attempts to educate them, you could consider going to AN/I with an article link and a list of IP addresses. And, of course, it's important to be sure your own house is in order regarding editing process. ―Mandruss  02:51, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The last edit to the article talk page was nine months ago. The editing by unregistered editors doesn't appear to be persistent enough to be where admins will typically semi-protect. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:59, 5 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Page Pointer

[edit]

How do I add an additional pointer to an existing page?

URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embraer_Phenom_300 New pointer: E55P (E five five P) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nastybahb (talkcontribs) 03:39, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Nastybahb: If you mean a redirect then see Help:Redirect. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:49, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not a redirect. An alias? An alternate search argument for the same URL. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nastybahb (talkcontribs) 21:21, 5 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Nastybahb: That sounds a lot like a redirect. I have made a redirect at E55P. If you wanted something else then please explain the difference. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:36, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Authorities, We're, as Bound Communication Consultancy (www.bound-pr.com), responsible for Karsan's PR activities in Turkey. We realised that the content on the Karsan page has some wrong information. We would like to get in contact with you and provide the right and up to date info/data regarding Karsan and it's activites. Looking forward to hear back. Thank you for your cooporation. Best, Burcu — Preceding unsigned comment added by Burcuozkutan (talkcontribs) 09:43, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Burcuozkutan. Thank you for coming here and asking, rather than just going ahead and making edits. Wikipedia is keen that the information in its articles is correct and up to date - but it is even more keen that articles are based on reliable published information, and almost all based on what other people have written about a subject. If you represent Karsan, then you have a conflict of interest, in that it may be difficult for you to write in a suitably neutral way. The best thing for you to do is to start a new section on Talk:Karsan, detailing exactly what changes you would like to see made in the article, with citations to reliable published sources (and as far as possible, to source unconnected with Karsan or yourselves, such as major newspapers). Then, because that article has not many watchers, I suggest you add {{edit request}} to the new section of the talk page; and an independent editor will come along in a bit and decide how far to implement your suggestions. (The page is sadly lacking in independent sources, so if you can suggest any more, that would be helpful as well). --ColinFine (talk) 10:26, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"EUCXBOG" file extensions

Can any one help me??? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jainam08 (talkcontribs) 11:22, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Have you tried the computing section of Wikipedia's Reference Desk? They specialize in answering knowledge questions there; this help desk is only for questions about using Wikipedia. For your convenience, here is the link to post a question there: click here. I hope this helps.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 11:38, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Delhi Ganesh

[edit]

Hi,

This is regarding an update on the page of Tamil actor Delhi Ganesh on page "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delhi_Ganesh". On his previous career before movies, he had worked with the Indian Air Force. I know this personally as he was my father's collegue in IAF and also have a photto support the same.

Can you please add the same info.

Regards, Dayal — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.225.12.117 (talk) 11:31, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Dayal, and thanks for the suggestion. I'm afraid that personal knowledge is not enough for Wikipedia articles, especially about living people. If you have a published source for this, you are welcome to add it to the article, or to suggest on the talk page Talk:Delhi Ganesh that it be added. (In fact, you could make the suggestion on the talk page anyway, and perhaps somebody else watching the page could help you find a published source). --ColinFine (talk) 14:23, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I want to ask for help in esiting page of artist Christina Katrakis. She give me new updated information and i add it to her page on Wiki but now i see this massage/

This article must adhere to the biographies of living persons policy, even if it is not a biography, because it contains material about living persons. Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately from the article and its talk page, especially if potentially libellous. If such material is repeatedly inserted, or if you have other concerns, please report the issue to this noticeboard. If you are connected to one of the subjects of this article and need help, please see this page.

Who can help me to solve this problem? Im bad in english so sorry for my mistakes. MariSoltus (talk) 12:26, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Replicating and article in Portuguese to the English Wikipedia Version?

[edit]

Hi There,

How can I publish in the English Wikipedia Version the following article?

http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crowd_economy

Thanks in advance.

Reinaldo — Preceding unsigned comment added by Reinaldopamponet (talkcontribs) 13:06, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Reinaldopamponet. Translating articles from other language Wikipedias is welcome: see WP:translation for how to go about it. Do note that different Wikipedias have their own rules and policies, and it is possible that an article in one would not be acceptable in another (if the standard of 'notability' happen to be different). --ColinFine (talk) 14:27, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Uncontroversial_technical_requests - Moving a page in Wikipedia German version

[edit]

Hello Wikipedia We represent the artist S. Meller who has an article under her name in the Deutsch version of Wikipedia. Her name is currently spelled wrong. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sivan_Meller We would like to submit an uncontroversial technical request to move the page and change the title. But we cannot find how to do so because the site is all written in German. How do we use the subst:Requested move command in the German version?

We can provide proof of representation the artist. Would be grateful for your help,

Thank you so much

iSOCIA — Preceding unsigned comment added by ISOCIA (talkcontribs) 13:49, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@ISOCIA: This is a help page for the English Wikipedia and {{Requested move}} is a template for us with no German equivalent under "Languages" in the left pane. The German Wikipedia operates independently and you have to contact them. I don't work there and don't know their policies but I see de:Hilfe:Seite verschieben has a link to de:Wikipedia:Verschiebewünsche. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:06, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@ISOCIA: I think the best way would be just writing that in German Wikipedia talk page, associated with the article: de:Diskussion:Sivan Meller. Just follow the link and click the 'plus' link there. --CiaPan (talk) 14:17, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@ISOCIA: de:Wikipedia:Namenskonventionen is possibly of interest as well, describing the German Wiki naming conventions for article titles. GermanJoe (talk) 14:27, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@GermanJoe: See, User:ISOCIA apparently does not speak German... --CiaPan (talk) 14:31, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for catching my error. Everyone speaking German would make things so much easier :). GermanJoe (talk) 14:37, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I couldn't find anything about placing a move request at the cited help page. However, if User:ISOCIA would be so kind as to tell us exactly which name the article should have, I could ask the German Wikipedia how to make a request, or even move the page myself. JIP | Talk 15:12, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) You only need to understand about three words of German to make the move – I could even do it myself. But I don't know the de:WP policy on naming articles, and I certainly don't know enough German to find and understand the relevant policy page. (And you have not told us what name you would prefer for the article. For all I know, her stage name and real name may be different). Maproom (talk) 15:19, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As I wrote above, the simplest way is probably to go directly to de:Talk:Sivan Meller and put the request there. Hopefully some people watch the page and at least some of them understand English. Or just tell us what the proper name is and ask User:GermanJoe to translate the request for de-wiki. ;) --CiaPan (talk) 16:39, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I undid their initial request made here. Based on that, I assume that they want to replace the full first name with just the initial "S." I don't know whether German policies require that "S." be more commonly used in reliable sources than "Sivan" or not. Interesting to see that the German Wikipedia has what appears to be a more primitive mechanism for requesting moves. I hadn't really looked at how moves are requested in other languages before. – Wbm1058 (talk) 17:57, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I just posted a cross-link to here on the German talk page, and noticed that the name in the article lead is Petite Syvan Meller – spelled with a "y" rather than an "i". And that some of the reference sources linked to from the German article are actually in English, and from those the common name seems to be Petite Meller. I see that title has been deleted three times from English Wikipedia. See this for example. Wbm1058 (talk) 18:27, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

arranging tables in a tabular arrangement

How can I get this to line up as a nice 3×3 table of 3×3 tables? (It's intended to mimic the effect of a 4D table, which obviously I cannot display.) Double sharp (talk) 15:46, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) Is [1] OK? It uses a large 3x3 table. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:49, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It looks much better! But is there a way to get the row height to be constant between tables? I'd like the rows to all line up perfectly, like the bottom one already does. Double sharp (talk) 05:52, 5 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've added <div> items 80px high to cells to align tables:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?diff=prev&oldid=645716308
You'll probably need to add align attributes to cells ('valign' attribute or 'vertical-align' style property) to push Schläfli symbols down. I tried also to use File:Empty.png, alas it's not square, so when I made rows aligned properly, the colums got too wide. --CiaPan (talk) 07:18, 5 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I added "valign"s and now it works exactly as I wanted. It now exists at {{Regular tetracomb table}} and appears at List of regular polytopes and compounds. Double sharp (talk) 07:52, 5 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Page Title - How to edit?

How to edit the title of this article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Okay_Kanmani) from Okay Kanmani to Ok Kanmani? The movie is recently renamed as Ok Kanmani. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Karthiswam (talkcontribs) 15:54, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help:Cite errors David Wetzel30 Problem with Templates

[edit]

Bad news: a) I can’t change my title there is another DW, so I want to call mine DW—Historian; b) I don’t know how to add reference the citations. All are web based—and here I am a complete neophyte. What do I do? after Last name; first name? Title? URL? Website? Publisher? Access Date? Ref? Ref name? Ref group?

As you can see, one ref follows Series). www.amazon.com/David-Wetzel/e/B001K8ZF4M/ref=sr_tc_2_0?qid=1422836904&sr=1-2-ent

And a second—three articles following (United) States:

I have removed from this page the text of the draft, with the tag which mistakenly put this help page into an AFC category. Here is a link to the draft: Draft:David Wetzel --David Biddulph (talk) 20:03, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have moved the draft to Draft:David Wetzel (historian). I'll have a look at the references, but I'm not promising anything. Maproom (talk) 20:08, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have repaired the broken reference tag which was giving the 2 errors reported, but there is still much work to be done on the draft. --David Biddulph (talk) 20:11, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed raw urls which were to non-reliable sources, and those which gave 404s. I have deleted the references to the subject's own book, as a non-independent source. This leaves the url of a video, which may be acceptable as a reference, but I don't have the patience to listen to it, so I don't know if it supports any of the statements in the article. Maproom (talk) 20:30, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think the 404s were because there were 2 URLS concatenated together, as in the original question above.
http://www.dailycal.org/tag/davidwetzel/http://www.berkeley.edu/news/berkeleyan/2001/11/29_schol.html was presumably intended to be 2 separate URLs:
http://www.dailycal.org/tag/davidwetzel/ and http://www.berkeley.edu/news/berkeleyan/2001/11/29_schol.html ? --David Biddulph (talk) 12:26, 5 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
... of which the first still fails, but the second seems to work. --David Biddulph (talk) 12:28, 5 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Why was vixx filmography deleted?

[edit]

Hi,

It wasn't a post created by me but it was a very useful post to me (and I know a lot of other starlights). It takes a long time to compile a whole list of everything a group has been on. It isn't anywhere else. I made an edit to it. A lot of people have contributed to that post and I don't know why it has been deleted. Is there any way to get it back? Or just get the information from it?

Thank You, Zara — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zahash22 (talkcontribs) 21:59, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Edits to Gus Gordon page

[edit]

Hi, my name is Gus Gordon. I was recently left a message by a Wikipedia editor regarding an article about me on Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gus_Gordon). The message was in relation to citations and editing my own article. As I have previously explained to another Wikipedia editor, some years ago a friend informed me that a Wikipedia page about me (now since deleted) had been published by someone on Wikipedia. This page was so inaccurate that I decided to start a new page. I now realise I should not have done so as, apart from anything, it violates Wikipedia's policies of self promotion etc. I only intended to correct a badly researched article/page and, to be honest, I would rather I wasn't listed at all on Wikipedia than have this previous article defining my name.

Now I see that a Wikipedia editor has placed an 'issue' notice on the article which reads:

'This article is an autobiography or has been extensively edited by the subject or an institution related to the subject. It may need editing to conform to Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy. There may be relevant discussion on the talk page. (February 2015)'

Obviously this is quite embarrassing. Especially knowing that those who read my books could read it. I have no intention of editing the article again. I was hoping to have either the issue notice removed or the page deleted entirely. I'd much prefer the page was removed than have the issue notice read by all. It is not the kind of 'promotion' I need. What do I need to do in this situation?

Thanks in advance,

Gus — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gusillustrator (talkcontribs) 22:16, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Gusillustrator: The notice is there to get other editors to review the article for tone and content. If it's written neutrally, then an independent editor should take the tag down. If it's not, they should correct it and then remove the tag. I don't have time right this minute, or I'd take a look at it myself. —C.Fred (talk) 22:31, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
...And taking a look, I see that Theroadislong has already reviewed the text and removed the maintenance tag. —C.Fred (talk) 22:32, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
