[edit]Need to rename picture file
[edit]I named this picture file (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:McKinney_McDonald_House.jpg) wrong and can't figure out how to change it. It should be named "Henry Beissner House" (talk) 00:20, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- I can move files at the English Wikipedia but as the page says, "This is a file from the Wikimedia Commons". You uploaded it to http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:McKinney_McDonald_House.jpg so it has to be renamed by a Commons administrator or file mover. See commons:Commons:File renaming. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:22, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- I flagged the image for renaming. Someone should get to it soon. 25or6to4 (talk) 02:26, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
Which talk page has the greatest numbers of archives?
[edit]221.203.139.100 (talk) 00:59, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- I don't know but the size of each archive page varies. Wikipedia:Database reports/Talk pages by size seems more relevant. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:09, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- After some playing with searches like this one, I think the answer is Wikipedia talk:Requests for adminship/Archive 217. -- John of Reading (talk) 06:40, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
and in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make
[edit]was there a shortcut connection to the lyrics of "the end" (beatles/ abbey road) which i overlooked? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.138.80.86 (talk) 01:04, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what your question means. Are you referring to the 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony? There is mention in the last paragraph of The End (The Beatles song)#Legacy and 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony#Lighting of the Olympic cauldron. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:15, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

I changed the article to link - to David Stevens, one of the writers of the movie.
I received an email from someone saying that Wiki has no article on "David Stevens" and that the links - - had been removed.
But I see an article in Wiki about the writer in question - David Stevens screenwriter:
Since I am that screenwriter, I am very, very confused. Marinerpacific (talk) 03:51, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- I will check your linking.--Canoe1967 (talk) 04:11, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
Thank you. What puzzles me is the the email came from a contributor (presumably an editor) "Beyond My Ken" but I don't understand how he was able to access my email address. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marinerpacific (talk • contribs) 04:15, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- David Stevens is a 'dab' page. Some robot software may revert you, email you, send you kittens, etc. You can turn email off in preferences if you wish. There are settings for user to user email as well as email if your talk page is changed. The bot may have changed your talk page is all. I fixed the link to go to David Stevens (screenwriter).--Canoe1967 (talk) 04:20, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
Again - thank you. Marinerpacific (talk) 04:24, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- You are very welcome. I will resolve this section and email you a book I wrote before you disable your email. Please make it into a movie and send me as much money as you can from the profits.(kidding)--Canoe1967 (talk) 04:36, 30 July 2012 (UTC)Resolved
How do I link in Wikipedia to the Wiktionary?
[edit]How do I link in Wikipedia to the Wiktionary? — Preceding unsigned comment added by JIK1975 (talk • contribs) 05:22, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- By using the following code:
- [[wikt:pizza|lasagna]]
- you get the following link:
- lasagna
- Arcandam (talk) 05:26, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- If you want to link to a Wiktionary article from a Wikipedia article about the same term, you should use {{wikt}}. If you just want to link to a dictionary definition in the body of an article, Aracandam's syntax above is correct, but do note that it's almost always poor style to link dictionary definitions on the assumption that readers will be unfamiliar with a word's meaning. Roswell UFO Incident/Sunrise
[edit]Over the past week or so there has been a contribution (Sunrise) which appears to be advertising a new publication on Roswell. This has been deleted several times by Canada Jack, Tembrae, Ginger Maine Coon and myself on the basis of marketing ploy and "undue weight". However, the material keeps being re-inserted by different unregistered addresses.
Can this page be protected for a couple of weeks to prevent this advertising?
With thanks and regards, David. David J Johnson (talk) 09:07, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- See WP:RFP to request protection. And also, using curly braces will not display a link to a user page. I think what you meant to do was display them as User:Canada Jack and so on. Dismas|(talk) 09:20, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help, sorry about the braces - I was rushing to get to a appointment! Many thanks & regards, David. David J Johnson (talk) 11:08, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
Doppelgänger accounts
[edit]If you want to have a doppelgänger account, do you have to register the account or can you just put a {{doppelganger}} template on the userpage? FlBo A boat that can float! 10:47, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
(emphasis mine)"A doppelgänger account is a second account created with a username similar to one's main account to prevent impersonation."
- Also, IMO, it's best to register the account to avoid someone creating it then finding the template on their userpage. benzband (talk) 12:30, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- OK, I didn't quite understand the wording and wanted clarification. FlBo A boat that can float! 12:43, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- If you put the template in the userspace of a nonexistent user, it would be subject to {{db-u2}} speedy deletion. 2001:18E8:2:1020:6056:B52B:5065:1B93 (talk) 17:30, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Pizza Hut inc page
[edit]Pizza Hut inc page has an error in between Pepsico and Yum! owning the company its was called TRICON which was a spin off from Pepsico and only had 3 brands at the time of inception, KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.175.122.13 (talk) 13:29, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- Tricon seems to be mentioned in History of Pizza Hut, which has the detailed history. That page is very short of references to reliable sources, so if you have books or newspaper archives documenting the history, be bold and have a go at improving it. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:08, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
ShoeCareSupplies.com article
[edit]To whom ever it may concern,
- I'm having an issue regarding the article on my website, it was supposed to be up and running right now but there's no sign of that occurring. If you can please assist me with the technical difficulties, it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks and take care.

- If you mean this article Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/ShoeCareSupplies.com, it has not been submitted for review yet - but it won't get past the review in any case. It reads like an advertisement, is totally lacking in sources, and fails to provide evidence that the subject meets Wikipedia notability guidelines - in this case Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). To be frank, I doubt that your business stands much chance of doing so, but I recommend you read this for yourself. While I wish you well in your enterprise, it isn't Wikipedia's function to provide free advertising, and any articles are 'ours' rather than belonging to the subject of the article - and have to be based on third party reliable sources (to establish notability, amongst other things), and be written in a neutral and encyclopaedic tone. No log entry for a deleted (?) image
[edit]What happened to File:Hazard City Hall in Hazard, Kentucky.jpg? I can't find a log entry for it here or at Commons, but because of my experience with block logs that can't be seen when I'm logged out (see the "Why isn't the bot working right?" section above), I'm wondering if it's there but visible only to logged-in users. I understand that it might never have existed, although that would be odd because it's linked in the Perry County, Kentucky infobox. 2001:18E8:2:1020:6056:B52B:5065:1B93 (talk) 17:28, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- This file has never existed either here or on commons. Ruslik_Zero 18:24, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- The closest that I can find is File:Hazard_main2006.jpg. Ruslik_Zero 18:28, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- The redlink is due to an apparent correction made in 2008[1] You're probably looking for File:Perry County Kentucky Courthouse.jpg, which is either a city hall or a courthouse, not sure which. -- zzuuzz (talk) 18:37, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

- Wallasey was in Cheshire when Hughes was born, so it would be accurate to say he was born in Cheshire. -- zzuuzz (talk) 18:47, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
bees attacking the humming bird feeder??
[edit]My question is on the humming bird feeder, there is a problem with bees all over the feeder, drinking the sweeten water
what can I do to stop the bees attacking the feeder, without hurting the humming birds????? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.37.149.127 (talk) 21:05, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

- Though the above absolutely holds true, I was interested in the answer to this (as I have a feeder myself) so I did some searches. There is material about this you might find useful here, here and here. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 23:17, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
The Dark Knight Rises (novel)
[edit]Hi, I believe that the article The Dark Knight Rises (novel) is unnecessary and repeating the information of the movie's article. I would try to create a redirect and merge whatever information of the novel's article towards the main's, but the main article is protected and I can't do a thing.--NeoBatfreak (talk) 23:57, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- The movie article at The Dark Knight Rises is only Semi-protected, and you should be autoconfirmed, so there shouldn't be any problems for you to edit it. But, before you make this change, you should propose it on one of the article's talk page and get consensus. You can use one of the {{merge}} templates to get the attention of anyone who reads either article. RudolfRed (talk) 00:26, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
- I'm sorry to say I am not autoconfirmed, don't know why. Can you help finding out what is going on?--NeoBatfreak (talk) 00:27, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
- I'm assuming that you're assuming that you're not autoconfirmed because you can't edit the article on the movie – Neo, it's actually fully protected.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 00:35, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
- I'm sorry to say I am not autoconfirmed, don't know why. Can you help finding out what is going on?--NeoBatfreak (talk) 00:27, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, it is fully protected. Wonder why I can't edit, since I never vandalizing articles before.--NeoBatfreak (talk) 00:40, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
- Your follow-up confuses me. This may be my failing but it sounds like you think you (and/or others) are prevented from editing this fully-protected article based on some setting on your account, such as a log of vandalism, while other non-administrator editors are permitted to edit it. That's not how protection functions. No one but an administrator (or higher access level) can edit a fully protected article: It's a blanket prohibition. If you look at the protection log entry, it was imposed with the edit summary note: "chaotic editing, multiple parties violating 3RR".--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 00:53, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
- Oh. Thanks for explaining. Still, I would like to make some small contributions though.--NeoBatfreak (talk) 00:55, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, you'll have to wait until the protection is removed (or reduced). However, if you have something very specific (and uncontroversial) that you think would improve the article immediately, you can ask for its addition second hand by going to the talk page, placing the template {{Edit protected}}, and making a clear and specific request below it. You would need to say exactly what content should go where, or what should be changed or removed. Generalities are the death knell of such requests.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 00:57, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

- Sorry for the misinformation. It was previously semi-protected and I failed to notice that it was switched to full protection. RudolfRed (talk) 00:59, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
- Still, can you put a merge template on the novel adaptation article? I mean, do we really need an article basically repeating the same information as the movie's?--NeoBatfreak (talk) 01:01, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
