United States Youth Volleyball League

The United States Youth Volleyball League article had zero references. The Little League Baseball is richly referenced. The American Youth Soccer Organization wouldn't be a good model. While it exists, it has multiple problems, and if not addressed, it may go away. There's more to it than that, but the United States Youth Volleyball League article is a long way from being acceptable. --SPhilbrick(Talk) 00:56, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

A problematic move

An editor moved Thai basil to Asian basil because "Asian is more neutral". The vast majority of references to this plant call it Thai basil (1,330,000 ghits as compared to 71,000 for Asian basil). Thai basil has been here since 2005. As far as I'm aware, there has never been a discussion about moving it until this move was done. WP:Bold aside, this was not an appropriate move. Would an admin revert it, please? A suggested RM would probably be in order thereafter. I'd be happy to make the suggestion to the editor who did the move unless someone else prefers to do so. Since your website is a primary source, its content is not suitable for inculsion on Wikipedia. In addition, you should read WP:Autobiography for an explanation of why we rarely accept biographical details supplied by the subject.

Link on top of every Wikipedia Page Asking Users to Read Personal Appeal from Author of Many Wikipedia Articles Does not Work

If I try clicking on the link referenced in the subject of this question, nothing happens. I remain on the page. If I right click and choose open in new tab or new window, same thing happens - just takes me to the wikipedia entry I was viewing. Help me

If an image is at Wikimedia commons then it can be used by all the language-specific Wikipedias; it doesn't need to be moved or copied. -- John of Reading (talk) 14:13, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

New users sometimes confuse Wikipedia ("p" in the middle and cannot have "Commons" at the end) with Wikimedia Commons ("m" instead of "p"). Images uploaded to a Wikipedia language can only be used at that Wikipedia language. Some images have licenses which don't allow upload to Wikimedia Commons. Where is the image? The commons image is here. Actually I want the crop copy of it and use it in other wiki project, so I thought I make a copy to en.wikipedia and use my own copy with cropped version without disturbing the original file in commons repository. You can make a cropped version and upload it with a new name, for example "Me and Rajini cropped.jpg", as long as you satisfy the license. If the original is at Commons then I recommend to also upload the cropped version there. Do not overwrite the original file name with a cropped version. commons:Template:Extracted from can be used to attribute the original. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:26, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

Where to buy CD-ROM copy of Wikipedia?

how do I include a chart from powerpoint and word tables? .

It isn't possible to paste from those formats into Wikipedia. See Help:Wiki markup for help with Wiki markup generally, and Help:Table for table formatting. – ukexpat (talk) 16:58, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Powerpoint has an option to save graphics as a jpeg. Just right click and save as picture. then you can upload that. I have done this often.TCO (talk) 04:28, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Linking

Is it kosher to have a wikilink that takes you to a different section within the same article? WP:LINK, which I quickly looked at, doesn't really address it except possibly "Do not link to a page that redirects to the page the link is on." The link is here at the phrase "continued his education". It's sort of helpful but could cause problems later if the article is changed and the link is impacted.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:56, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Yes, you may link to another section. The link you mention is actually constructed like this: [[#Education|continued his education]]. WP:LINK target linking to other pages that redirect back to the linking page as a whole. — Edokter (talk) — 22:21, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Problem with WCQL-FM article

To whom it may concern, My name is Darrin Anderson and I work for Regional Radio Group in Glens Falls New York. Our small cluster includes WCQL-FM Queensbury NY. We are still known as HITS 95.9, but our slogan has changed from "Your Music, Your Station" to "Your Music Station" We are no longer affiliated with Dial Global who owns the "Your Music, Your Station" slogan. Our owner was just informed that because the "Your Music, Your Station" still shows up on various websites, we are committing a copyright violation. Dial Global has fined our company and is threatening further legal action unless we fix this issue. I tried editing it myself, but I couldn't. Please, if you could correct this ASAP it would be much appreciated. Here is the link to your page about our station:

|format= in cite report

In Hurricane Debra (1959), should the usages of {{cite report}} use the |format= parameter for GIF images even though the reports were originally published in 1959? Thanks. HurricaneFan25 — 17:43, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

I think so. Looking at the ordering and indentation of the fields at Template:Cite report/doc#Description of parameters, it's clear that the writer of the documentation intended "format" and "accessdate" to describe the "url" parameter. Hi, helpdeskers. Please please help with articles for creation. I'm begging here.

This morning, at about 6AM, there were about 350 AFC's. I dealt with those plus the new ones, and got the backlog reduced to zero. That's good, because when there are so few, users get timely feedback - and that makes a huge difference. But, it's creeping back up...

AFC is easy; If the article isn't likely to be be deleted - make it live. Just move it, and tidy it up.

If it's not good enough but could be fixed - fix it, or tell 'em what is needed.

If it's unacceptable, edit the page and add a letter "d". Change {{AFC submission|| to {{AFC submission|d| - that's it. And please tell the creator why.

Of course, more help to the new user would be great, but, that's the essence of it. Please help out. Thanks!  Chzz  ►  18:46, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Feedback on draft page

I published a page on the Bourne Society that was promptly deleted because of copyright infringement. Quoting the log message: "20:23, 19 December 2011 Fastily (talk | contribs) deleted "Bourne Society" ‎ (G12: Unambiguous copyright infringement of http://www.bournesociety.org.uk/bournesoc/about-us.html)"

I understand why the deletion was made so have now recreated the page afresh in my user space (User:Inspeximus/Bourne Society) doing my utmost to avoid any copyright infringement and my best to adhere generally to other guidance on first article creation.

I would now like to have your feedback on the draft - I see that the standard "Requests for Feedback" process is now inactive so am submitting it here for review.

My initial view is that the references that you have cited do not demonstrate the notability of the subject. Please take a look at WP:ORG and WP:RS for guidance on notability and the kind of sources that are required to show it. – ukexpat (talk) 21:24, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

The page does not comply with some guidelines in spots, including: WP:CAPS, WP:LOWERCASE, WP:MOSHEAD, WP:LEAD, and WP:REFPUNCT. Specifically:

• A reference should generally come after any punctuation, without any intervening space or hard returns.
• Section headings should follow the same letter case convention as article titles (second and following words should begin with lowercase characters except when they would normally be capitalized; e.g. Other Publications should be Other publications).
• In the lead section, bold the first instance of the page title that appears in a sentence. Do not repeat the title separately as a pseudo-title followed by an ellipsis.
• Don't type the name in all caps (THE BOURNE SOCIETY) in context unless that is how it would always appear.
• I agree that the references might not establish the notability of the subject, and a search with Google for: Bourne Society does not produce many high-ranked results that might meet Wikipedia's criteria for reliable sources that are independent of the subject. You could help by persuading some journalists to write about the society in their publications.

Sounds like your opinion to me. Webster's Dictionary defines a suburb as "a smaller community adjacent to or within commuting distance of a city" which fits perfectly.
