Can we tweak the background on the two first images so it looks like the third? The distance between the object and the edge of the image should also be same (so increase the distance), and the proportions should also be the same (I think it's a 13x18)? On the second image there is a shadow from top right to bottom left that also falls on the vase, maybe that can be corrected as well. Thank you. -- Gryffindor (talk) 11:57, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Could you correct the shadow(s) please on 1 and 2 to match the originals, if that possible? Also with the elephants please. Gryffindor (talk) 15:43, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Gryffindor: The last picture done. PawełMM (talk) 22:59, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Gryffindor: I corrected the shadows. If wrong, you can restore the older version. PawełMM (talk) 17:16, 28 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@PawełMM: I think what would be best if the shadows on those first two are just like in their original state, it looks more diffuse. Would that be possible? Gryffindor (talk) 21:32, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Gryffindor: Shadows diffused. PawełMM (talk) 22:24, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@PawełMM:, thank you, but I meant the shadows to look like in the original version of the file. In the first image in the original the shadow is very light and goes from the base of the vase in both directions shaped slightly like two semi-circles. In the second image the shadow is a bit more difficult to discern. I think it goes slightly to the right behind the vase, but there is also a smaller shadow at the base. I hope my comments are more clearer now. Thank you for your help. Gryffindor (talk) 10:08, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Gryffindor: I think it is OK now. Shadows on both images are kept the same as in the original version. If you do not like it, you can restore one of the previous versions. PawełMM (talk) 13:02, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@PawełMM: I understand the issue. The shadows are perfect now. Could you just change the dimensions of the image to a 13x18 and increase the overall distance between the object itself and the four edges of the image? The distance between the object and the edges should be similar as in image 3. Gryffindor (talk) 14:14, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Gryffindor: Done as requested. PawełMM (talk) 15:44, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Wonderful, thank you very much. Gryffindor (talk) 15:49, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please make the horizontal lines in the background cleaner, just a straight line? In the first image the upper right corner has some black still left at the very edge. Gryffindor (talk) 21:22, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

 Done. I replaced the background with the same pale blue used in infoboxes (#f8f9fa), which I've found is a useful way to make non-rectangular cropped jpegs fit nicely in infoboxes. nagualdesign 03:15, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I repaired the edge by the way (before/after), and uploaded that before uploading the cropped version. If you prefer you can revert to that version. I only went that one step further because I noticed there were other issues with the image. If you want, the current and previous versions could easily be combined (by anyone). nagualdesign 18:41, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please remove upper right white corner in 1 and make it the same as the rest of the background. In 2 remove the white explanation parts and the dark corner in the lower right corner and replace with the same background (the upper part is lighter than the lower part). In 3 remove the lower white explanation, remove the shadow in the lower left half, and remove the shadows on the top and the white explanation and white part and replace with same background. You can overload over original image. -- Gryffindor (talk) 17:27, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request for cleanup of newspaper clipping photograph

This PD photograph was clipped from a digitised 1939 periodical, a PDF is available via the licensing link. The Commissioner Government article is currently going through Military history A-Class review (and will ultimately go through FAC), and I am wondering if the image can be cleaned up somewhat? Thanks for taking a look! Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 00:35, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • It's always hard to know how far to go with these. I extracted the larger version from the pdf and made a clean-up attempt above. I concentrated on the background and "creases". I'm not sure I'm thrilled with the result, and someone may do better (I didn't do much to the 'patchy' cheek etc for fear of straying too far), but here it is for you to love or hate... -- Begoon 02:05, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Update - after coffee and a walk I succumbed to the temptation to be a bit more aggressive with the "blotchiness" - you can see the last couple of edits in the file history. I'm still not terribly happy with the result, but it's really not a very good original - that's my excuse anyway. Again, I'd welcome someone improving on this. -- Begoon 04:55, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW I think you did a great job. Polishing turds is highly underrated. Making a good photo look beautiful is one thing, but making an abysmal photo look normal takes a lot of skill and effort. nagualdesign 10:24, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Nagual - it can get hard to tell after one's been staring at it trying to improve it for a while...
  • Peacemaker67, it might also be worth taking a look at this image, from which we would get a much better result - repairing that crease would be fairly straightforward. I'm not an expert on copyright, but part of the source page translates as "This is a photograph of an anonymous author issued before January 1, 1954, created in the territory of the Republic of Serbia. According to the 1978 Copyright Act, such works are public good.", so perhaps worth getting opinions at MCQ? Or maybe there's a reason it hasn't already been uploaded to Commons... The finer points of international copyright/URAA etc are too complex for me at times... -- Begoon 10:32, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
