Wikipedia:Expert review/mailing lists

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On expert review, reviewers generally carry out discussion via private mailing lists (anybody can subscribe to them, but only reviewers and coordinators can post on them). This is done for three reasons:

  • so that reviewers do not need to create an account on the English Wikipedia if they do not already have one;
  • because mailing lists are a familiar medium to many experts, avoiding a whole new learning process; and
  • because malicious and unhelpful participation is avoided.

Anybody can subscribe to any of the lists. Only reviewers and coordinators can post on the reviewers' mailing lists (which are not moderated), but anybody can post on the coordinators' mailing list (which is moderated).
