Wikipedia:Centijimbos

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:CJ)

A centijimbo (cJ, pronounced "Centi-Jimbo" /ˈsɛntɪˌɪmb/ ) is a unit of measurement used for comparing the number of watchers a particular user has.[note 1] The term was coined by Durova in a blog post on September 10, 2009, shortly after the creation of a tool by MZMcBride that counts the number of people who watch a particular page.[note 2]

The centijimbo is 1/100th the number of watchers that User:Jimbo Wales has. As of October 2024, a centijimbo currently equals approximately 41.15 watchers, but as a relative measurement, this changes as people add and drop watchlist pages.

One may use the template {{User:Audacity/centijimbo|# of people watching your userpage}} to display one's ranking in terms of centijimbos. Users who develop an obsession with checking their number of watchers may suffer from centijimboitis.

From here we can obviously see that:

  • One MILLIJIMBO is 1/1000th of the number of watchers that User:Jimbo Wales has. (4.115)
  • One CENTIJIMBO is 1/100th of the number of watchers that User:Jimbo Wales has. (41.15)
  • One DECIJIMBO is 1/10th of the number of watchers that User:Jimbo Wales has. (411.5)
  • One JIMBO is the number of watchers that User:Jimbo Wales has. (4115)

Thus, by definition, the user page of our founder Jimmy Wales always has 1 JIMBO or 100 cJ.

As of September 2024, this page has about 2.92 cJ.

Tips for increasing your centijimbo count

[edit]
  1. Reply to all your talk page messages on YOUR own talk page! Not only does this help keep conversations coherent, it ensures that users keep your page watched ... at least until they receive their reply, so ...
  2. Don't reply right away! Instead, wait a while. If you always answer your talk page messages immediately users won't bother to watchlist your page. But sometimes they'll still unwatch your page after you do reply, so ...
  3. Only give them half-answers! Keep them waiting for more: Tell them you will research the subject and you'll "get back to them on that" ... But then they may assume that you'll be contacting them on their talk page, so ...
  4. Place {{Usertalkback|me=watched|you=other}} on your talk page! With the parameters set as shown this handy li'l notice will actually command all users to place your page on their watchlist and to always respond on your talk page!
  5. Never edit your userpage, and try never to edit your talk page either except to archive once every month or so! By responding on their talk page instead of your own, your userpage will only show up once in watchlists, making it less likely to be seen and removed from watchlists.
  6. Spam Jimbo's talk page daily with frequent comments in lengthy discussions ... and the value of a cJ will fall!
  7. Become an admin. Deleting articles is a good way to initiate a discussion on your page, even if it begins with "WTF" or worse. Well over half of the most watchlisted Wikipedians below are mop-bearers ...
  8. If you are really keen on increasing your centijimbo count then create hundreds of sockpuppets legitimate alternative accounts, and never edit from them, but get them all to watchlist the user page of your main account. If you are really, really keen, then you can apply to Wikipedia:Bot Approvals Group for approval for a bot that runs 24/7 doing nothing but creating new accounts and adding your user page to their watchlists. If the bot only creates one new account per second and does not get stopped by an envious competitor, you'll achieve 1 JIMBO in about 1 hour, and after 6 weeks and 2 days will break the kilojimbo barrier.

Wikipedia:Database reports/Most-watched pages shows a list of the top 1,000 most watched pages. As of July 21, 2024, the only six user pages which are not subpages to appear on that list besides Jimbo's user page are User:SlimVirgin, User:NawlinWiki, User:DGG, User:RHaworth, User:Alison, User:Materialscientist, User:Drmies, and User:Bishonen.

Wikipedians who have edited this page and have at least 30 watchers (at least 0.78 centijimbos, due to requirements set by the developers) are listed below with their numbers of centijimbos. Feel free to add your name here, proudly displaying how many centijimbos you have:[note 3]

  1. ^ The current tool for obtaining a watcher count is at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:MyPage&action=info#mw-pageinfo-watchers and the count can be fed into the template User:Audacity/centijimbo to get the cJ number.
  2. ^ MZMcBride's tool was at tools:~mzmcbride/cgi-bin/watcher.py. It was subsequently replaced due to the shutdown of toolserver (more info: [1] [2]). Another Toolserver-hosted one is also out of order now. The current tool is here.
