Function details: The bot would automatically add |pmc=
and |arxiv=
identifiers to citation templates.
A similar request was filed a while ago, but was later abandoned as most of the links found during the trial run require human oversight to avoid copyright violations and mismatches between citations and articles.
The bot was then turned into a tool to let individual editors perform this reviewing. Thanks to the help of many volunteers the code is now more mature and it appears that some of these links could be reliably added automatically - namely those from PubMed Central (|pmc=
) and arXiv (|arxiv=
), where copyright issues are rare and copies tend to be relatively faithful to the published version.
Discussion
[edit]- +1, there is a clear consensus on the usefulness of automatic addition of such identifiers. I recommend going for a trial run. --Nemo 19:58, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Headbomb, do you have suggestions on how to proceed? --Nemo 09:25, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Approved for trial (50 edits, 25 for PMC, 25 for arxiv edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete.. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 09:58, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- @Headbomb: thanks! Trial complete.. − Pintoch (talk) 20:40, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- [1]/[2]/[3] are problematic. There should be no
v(\d)\.pdf
to the arxiv identifiers in these situations. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 22:29, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]- Thanks. That was a temporary error (we had already fixed that bug), can 25 more trial edits be run? --Nemo 08:05, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Approved for extended trial (25 edits edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete., arxiv-only. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 12:46, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Ok, seems done and well. Trial complete. --Nemo 21:57, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
