Templates.
[edit]Zzyzx11,
Your recent edits to Template:Cities of Orange County, California and Template:Cities of San Diego County, California were excellent. However, they are incompatable with Internet Explorer. I'm assuming you are a Firefox user as I am? Unfortunatly, one of the drawbacks of editing on Wikipedia with Firefox is that you usually have to check if it displays correctly in IE, which, quite often, messes everything up completely.
Also, in regards to your edit to Template:Infobox Community, I do not like the way the new version looks as much, although I do feel that standardization is important and do I agree with your edit. Thus, I proposed a new version for Template:Infobox City at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cities. Comments?
Sincerely, Short Verses (talk) 22:12, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)
- Everything seems to be in order, except there is a now a white background behind content text in Template:Cities of Orange County, California. I'll give fixing that a try, I don't know how good I am at Wiki markup, though. Thanks for your help. Regards, Short Verses (talk) 22:52, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, one last question. Should we place the county seats into the population classes as well? Sincerely, Short Verses (talk) 23:25, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)
- I'll leave the templates alone. For now, I'll work on replacing all of my locator maps. Sincerely, Short Verses (talk) 04:37, Jun 17, 2005 (UTC)

Is This an Article That Should be Deleted?
[edit]U.S. presidential election, 2002 (fictional). I just don't see the point of putting fictional plots from TV show and movies. Do you know how many fictional elections there have been over the last 70 years in movies and TV? In fact I am having a hard time wrapping my support around much of anything 203.9.200.3 has contributed. But, maybe it is something I just don't see. Advice? WikiDon 07:49, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hi there
[edit]When you revert a change because it should be discussed first, like you did with Snowspinner's edits to Wikipedia:Deletion process, please start the relevant discussion on the talk page. I went to weigh in, and there wasn't any mention of Snowspinner's edit on the talk page at all. In a case like that there's a danger of a constructive edit being forgotten.
Actually there's no reason to revert unless you personally disagree with an edit. If you believe there should be discussion, start it, but I don't think it's necessary to revert changes until there are objections to them beyond the procedural. Thanks, Isomorphic 05:32, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Hmm... I thought I started a discussion on that page already... must have been a bad connection or database error. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 05:38, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah, that happens. No worries. I started one, so feel free to chime in there if you have an opinion. Isomorphic 05:41, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Jack W. Smith
[edit]How is this Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Jack W. Smith a no consensus? 4 deletes against one keep (not even counting the nominator) seems like pretty good consensus to delete. Grue 20:03, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Oops, I miscounted. There were 6 similar articles in a row like that, most of them with no consensus. Sorry about that. Thanks for catching my mistake. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 22:22, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Thanks!
[edit]Thanks for supporting me on my RfA. It's always nice to get some positive feedback. I hope I can put my new abilities to some good use. -- grm_wnr Esc 17:39, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Hi Zzyzx, you wrote that the consensus was to keep (or rather, there was no consensus), and I'm wondering whether this is correct. There were 27 votes. Of these, 15 votes to delete entirely; seven to delete the article and merge contents with another LaRouche article; and five to keep (four to keep, plus one to rewrite). This gives you 22 votes to delete or to merge with another article out of 27 votes altogether. Isn't that a consensus not to keep it? SlimVirgin (talk) 02:44, Jun 20, 2005 (UTC)
- Hmm. It looks like the sentence was cut off. It should have said: "No consensus to delete. The article should be merged." Zzyzx11 (Talk) 03:04, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks. What is the cut-off point for a consensus? Sorry, I should know that, but don't. Also, regarding the procedure now - is it okay if I take the contents and place them in another LaRouche article? Then the text can be edited in there, as needed. SlimVirgin (talk) 03:07, Jun 20, 2005 (UTC)
- There were 15 votes out of 27 to delete, which is a majority, and only seven votes to merge. Of these seven, I'd say most wanted the article to be deleted, but anything salveable to be moved to one of the LaRouche pages. Perhaps the vote should be kept opened a little longer if you feel there's a lack of clarity? SlimVirgin (talk) 03:27, Jun 20, 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, I'll merge them into the other LaRouche articles, probably Political views of Lyndon LaRouche. I'll put them in their own section, and we can edit them from there to try to make them NPOV. I think the problem with the way that vote ended up being framed is that those voting to merge didn't realize they weren't voting to delete, if you see what I mean. It's a common problem with VfD. Twice as many wanted to delete than merge, and yet we're merging. SlimVirgin (talk) 04:06, Jun 20, 2005 (UTC)

Again -- Per your request -- the Star Wars Wiki
[edit]In May, you wrote on my talk page:
- Thank you for stopping the merge war. In the meantime, could you do me a favor? I recently spotted an anonymous user trying to unilaterally change Template:Swwiki to read "This article should be considered as a candidate to be copied to the Star Wars Wiki and then deleted." I persuaded this user to revert it back until there was a formal discussion on the change. So if you are familar and/or contribute to the Star Wars Wiki, could you please make a comment on that template's talk page. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 04:11, 9 May 2005 (UTC)
First -- Let me apologize for the long delay. The past month has been VERY hecktic for me:
- I was hospitalized for the better part of a week because the doctors thought I was having a heart-attack [NOT],
- I spent the whole entire week after that (when you posted the message) in up-state New York on work-related business,
- My Union had me on a picket line last week protesting our section's planned elimination (no, we can not go on strike),
- I was hospitalized again after I woke up Monday with severe chest pain, fearing the worst -- nope, ticker is fine;
- My family has just suffered the unexpected death of one of our pet dogs.
So please understand -- I have had my hands full.
When I checked the site I found:
Welcome to the Star Wars Wiki, a Star Wars database that anyone can edit.
In this wiki, started on March 4, 2005, we are currently working on 6,910,213 articles.
This is a coordinated effort among Wikipedians to provide more detailed Star Wars content. While Wikipedia is for more general, encyclopedic knowledge, the Star Wars Wiki is for Star Wars fans who wish to learn/provide more about the Star Wars Universe.
This database contains a plethora of spoilers for all released material relating to the Star Wars universe. Read at your own risk.
Enjoy!
Enjoy? You have got to be joking. I was completely flabbergasted by this site. It is F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C!
This site is more comprehensive than the official site!
WOW!
As I looked through it, I was dumbfounded by all the effort you and I and all the rest have gone though creating and editing all those Star Wars related aricles on the other site. The Star Wars Wiki makes them all redundant. I am asking myself why I even bothered with those other edits – including the ones you became involved in.
If you still want my opinion – here it is.
All of the Star Wars related articles should be either deleted outright or redirected to the Star Wars Wiki. WIKIPEDIA should contain only a single article pertaining to The Star Wars Saga. WIKIPEDIA is primarily intended to be a broad based and general encyclopedia. I’ve done some checking in other encyclopedia sites as well as my own WORLD BOOK and I have found the either list one article about the saga or nothing at all.
Given the fact that Star Wars is an extensive and specific fictional universe, I believe – all things considered – that the suggestion that was put to you is sound. By maintaining the duplicate itemized data on both the general and specialized sites we are wasting storage space, time, and user effort. Moving the data off of the WIKIPEDIA would seem to be the most efficient and prudent course of action.
If you are an administrator – discuss this with your fellows.
If not – forward the matter to the administrators.
Regards;

Hello? Anybody there? You asked me a question and I gave you my answer. How about at least an acknowledgement? -- Jason Palpatine 28 June 2005 07:50 (UTC)
- Sorry about that. The comments on Template talk:Swwiki gives the impression that this would become a very heated debate that I wish to not get involved in any way. It might be similar to some of the comments made about Template:Move-To-Memory-Alpha, except that template was eventually deleted based on the technicality that the wiki not use the GFDL. Help!
[edit]OK, I'm out of my depth now. Dobermann/Temp was a page in which some of us on the Dog Breeds Project were testing some template things. It got speedy deleted and we just noticed it (because when a page is deleted, that does NOT show up in our watchlist, which I guess I ought to request as an enhancement). Anyway, I restored it and immediately went back to the page and moved it to where it needed to be, Wikipedia:WikiProject Dog breeds/TemplateTesting. But then when I returned to Dobermann/Temp to find out who or what had linked to it to fix those links, I discovered that it had replaced the Dobermann article, which of course no longer exists because you (i don't know how so fast) did some kind of merge of the newly restored /temp and the current (correct) version of Dobermann. so... to make a long story short--how do I get back to the correct version of Dobermann as of about 5 minutes ago before that merge--and leave the template testing version wher eit is? Thanks. Elf | Talk 29 June 2005 21:58 (UTC)
(What really puzzles me is that I got the correct message: "Page "Dobermann/Temp" moved to "Wikipedia:WikiProject Dog breeds/TemplateTesting"." so how could you have been merging it somewhere else simultaneously unless it has to do with the edit conflict bugs in the new version?) Elf | Talk 29 June 2005 22:01 (UTC)
- Thanks, that looks good. I guess if I hadn't panicked maybe I could've figured out to just try a restore on Dobermann. Yikes. Elf | Talk 29 June 2005 22:15 (UTC)
Falkland (disambiguation)
[edit]I marked Falkland (disambiguation) for speedy deletion. I was unsure if it qualified and left a note on the page to let me know if it didn't. You changed it to a redirect to the new disambig page Falkland. I'm curious why you changed it instead of deleting it. Should I have done a votes for deletion instead? commonbrick 30 June 2005 01:46 (UTC)
- This does not qualify for speedy deletion. In fact, it does not really qualify for any deletion. Because you moved content from Falkland (disambiguation) to Falkland, under the GFDL we have to keep the page history of the former so we can properly credit those users who added the content first. Tagging articles for speedy deletion
[edit]OK, thanks. These cases seemed obvious to me but I'll comply. --Lysy (talk) 3 July 2005 14:58 (UTC)
- These specific cases that I've submitted for deletion were obvious not controversial imho. They were all redirects from generic terms (eg. temporary government, underground government or 1941 independence that are meaningless without their proper contexts) to specific articles which seem purposeless and misleading. Don't you think ? --Lysy (talk) 3 July 2005 15:07 (UTC)

American football articles
[edit]Hello, I have noticed that you are one of the few other users very active in writing and editing articles pertaining to American football. It is an area of expertise for me and I have been working on a lot of articles concerning the Packers - Favre, Tauscher, Clifton, Mike Sherman, as well as some other players. Anyway, I was wondering if there is some way we can organize activity regarding nfl articles more effectively so as to establish a high level of quality throughout.--Sophitus July 4, 2005 04:16 (UTC)
A wikiproject would be great. As for its particular focus, I am not sure. I think that focusing on the NFL will provide more realistic goals. After all, college football is simply a massive area and then you have to consider high school football, which will probably generate the same controversy that high school articles do. However, I'd love to participate in a football wikiproject, no matter what the specific focus--Sophitus July 4, 2005 04:24 (UTC)
Thanks for creating the wikiproject. I have great hopes.--Sophitus July 4, 2005 16:09 (UTC)

I am not even the person pictured on the "Meon Pooj" page you deleted. if you disagree, please email me at XXXXXXX and tell me exactly what rules I broke to cause the pages to get deleted and what I can do to stop deletion in the future.

Defunct NFL teams?
[edit]Hi there! I was wondering why you were creating a new template in place of this deleted one? The TFD discussion suggested that a category be used instead, or that the relevant articles be merged since they're eternal stubs. However, the 'view deleted pages' option shows only blanks for me (don't know why) so I thought I'd ask you why this one is better. Yours, Radiant_>|< July 6, 2005 10:14 (UTC)
- Okay, sounds good. If they were still eternal stubs I would probably make some time to merge the lot of them, but since they're presently being worked on and improved, I wish you best of luck with that. You still may want to consider using a category rather than a template, but that's up to the project really. Yours, Radiant_>|< July 7, 2005 10:55 (UTC)
