HornColumbia,

It is my belief that you are letting your personal feelings for your alma matter get in the way of presenting facts on this page. The way you have changed the page leads viewers to believe that the first Homecoming was at the University of Missouri, and whether you like it or not, that is just not the case. I have done a very large amount of research on this topic and have found that all of my edits truthfully represent the facts of Homecoming. Baylor University did indeed launch the first Homecoming, you'll notice I have also said that Mizzou has the longest annually running Homecoming. It is also FACT that the NCAA does NOT cite Mizzou or any other school as the origin, there are many web articles saying that the NCAA credits it to Mizzou, but this is not true according to the keeper of records at the NCAA. Neutrality is fine on topics where certain details are uncertain, but in this case, facts are facts and even if we were talking neutrality, under the origins page of your edit, Baylors homecoming history should be listed before Mizzou's since it is of an older date. If you would like to contribute to the page, I am open to it, but do not remove my edits as largely as you have.

Thanks, Zstock9786

  • Z, The whole 'who was the first Homecoming' is somewhat controversial. If you read the talk page, you will see that this topic has come up a dozen times. It's been discussed in detail. Please read this page when you get a chance. Every so often someone comes along and replaces what was written with bold, definitive, and uncited claims. This sets off an annoying edit war. Let's not go there again. The page has gradually evolved to include the multiple claims without taking sides. As is discussed on the talk page, Homecoming was more of a gradual movement with new events at new schools strengthening all the traditions. By 1920, Homecoming was largely universal. For the record, my edits on the page are just minor maintinance. I haven't argued the whole first school thing in any way. Thanks for your edits and let me know if I can answer any questions or help out in any way. Also, I'm going to see if I can write an intro to the history section to explain that there are multiple claims. Let me know what you think. I see your point. However, the page still implies Mizzou had the first homecoming and the order of school history was not chronological. I have fixed this and also removed Idianna as they do not claim to have the first homecoming since the 1908 event was an alumni gathering that did not consist of normal homecoming events (i.e. football game, parade, etc...). Please take a look and make any changes you feel are necessary and I will review them. It looks good right now though, in my own opinion and according to facts.
