Colt 45 malt liquor page
[edit]Great work cleaning up that article. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Teckjunkie (talk • contribs) .
- Glad you liked what I did -- the article is hardly done, and I'm not sure if I can make myself go through the thorough article about Malt liquor that's linked. It would be a truly excellent source. --Zantastik talk 07:35, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
League of the South
[edit]Good work reorganizng and editing League of the South. It's much better now. Cheers, -Will Beback 07:44, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the recognition! It wasn't really a labor of love -- it's more that I ran across an article that was just so hopelessly biased and badly written that I felt compelled to dig in. Glad you like my work. --Zantastik talk 07:56, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
need help with footnotes?
[edit]Perhaps this will help?
if you need to cite a source twice, give it a name as such:
<ref name="Source1">ref-info</ref>
then to link it again use
<ref name="Source1"/>
Note the placement of the forward slash in each instance:
- in the first instance -- at the beginning of the second ref
- in the second instance -- at the end of the ref
Hope it helps. -- Sholom 20:58, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Notability
[edit]Let me know what you think of this: User:Jersyko/On notability. Image tagging for Image:Andrew_Sullivan.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Andrew_Sullivan.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Episcopal Church USA Shield.png. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 14:25, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Muazzez İlmiye Çığ
[edit]Hello Zantastik,
I'd love to translate it, but after a quick research i found out that it's a copyright violation. After 7 days the article will probably be cleaned and most likely be a stub. But i'll keep your pleasant request in mind and translate it when we have some quality material about Mrs. Çığ.
Cheers
Vito Genovese 12:54, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- Well, first of all, thanks for checking it out for copyright violations first! And I thank you most kindly for agreeing to translate it once the Turkish article is re-written. Mrs. Çığ sounds like quite an interesting figure, and I'm sure there's a lot more about her in Turkish than in any other language. --Zantastik talk 20:36, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
Collaboration?
[edit]Hey Zan. Are you interested in collaborating to bring this article to presentable status (I know you're busy with your translations, so if you don't want to, I understand)? It has had a cleanup tag since April. Just glancing at it, I can think of perhaps half a dozen specific things that need to be added. I'm sure you can think of even more than I can. So how about it? :) · j e r s y k o talk · 15:19, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
- I am interested. I'll do a bit this afternoon, as a matter of fact. --Zantastik talk 22:23, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi - having seen that article a few times, I agree that it's probably not up to our FA standard, but yes, I think it goes to GA (in parts, at least). I've already done some of it - namely "The art of Beekeeping" (or similar), and I'll be happy to help with it. We can, if you want a collaboration, set up a translation dept at Wikipedia:WikiProject Beekeeping/Translation. Thanks, Martinp23 22:32, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
- (sorry of rthe dealy - I posted this on the project talk before seeing your request - thanks!) Martinp23 14:25, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
Re: Image shading
[edit]I recently saw this image you made and I wondered what programs/techniques you used to shade the sections like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated; I'd like to do this myself. Thanks!--Zantastik talk 23:46, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
- There's really nothing special to it. I just used a photo editor (The GIMP). I used a tool that snaps to edges to define the rough shapes, touched them up by hand, and shaded them. -- mattb
@ 2006-11-06T01:24Z
- The tool looks like scissors and lets you select shapes by snapping to edges that it perceives. This isn't nearly perfect, however, and you usually want to to touch up the boundaries of the selection with the "lasso" tool that lets you add or subtract area from the selection. To shade a selection, I would convert it to a path, create a new layer, fill the selection with a solid color, adjust the transparency of the layer to your liking, and stroke the path with a brush tool to highlight the border. I'd suggest finding an online tutorial regarding basic image editing with The GIMP or Photoshop or whatever you'd prefer to use. -- mattb

Opus Dei RFC
[edit]Zan-- I noticed that you were closely involved in the FAC on the Opus Dei article way back in September of 2005. There had been a lot of trouble getting that article worked out due to the existence of a large number of single purpose accounts that show up to promote OD here on wikipedia. (In the FAC, for example, no less than 3 different brand new accounts showed to vote in that discussion, for example).
Anyway, puppetry notwithstanding, I've recently done a major rewrite on the Opus Dei article and am requesting comments on its talk page. I think the new page is better, but the aforementioned single-purpose accounts have been reverting it pretty consistently. Could you look over the page and comment on whether the rewrite is an improvement and maybe help out in the ensuing discussion? --Alecmconroy 14:54, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
WikiProject France
[edit]A proposal for a WikiProject France was made at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Proposals#France, it is still in the pipe line. Would you like to contribute to it? STTW (talk) 17:21, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- I think that such a wiki-project would be a good idea but I'm not sure that I'm really ready to join it at this time. My contributions, for better or worse, tend to be all over the place and I'm not sure that I'm really ready to commit to being an active member of a wikiproject right now. Nevertheless, I believe that wikiprojects are extremely important. So if anyone at WPjt:France wants me to translate an article or to contribute on a topic about which I'm knowledgable, then please don't hesitate to ask me. I'm not just being polite! :) --Zantastik talk 19:21, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. - Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

- Agreed. Yours must be a thankless task, as even established wikipedians don't like having their uploads deleted; I dare not imagine the reactions you get from some newer users! Anyway, feel free to tag it for deletion. --Zantastik talk 00:17, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Graphics Lab
[edit]Thanks for the invite to the Graphics Lab. Can't do any graphics editing right now as my monitor is dying. --Duk 04:41, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Graphics Lab Maps
[edit]There is already a strong and vibrant maps community here in English Wikipedia. Please join that community instead of setting up a duplicate project at Graphics Lab. We don't need two sets of standard colors, yet another way to request maps, differing standards, etc. Thanks, MapMaster 05:07, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- While we certainly want to avoid duplication of efforts, the Graphics lab presents one very important advantage: it facilitates colaboration. When someone asks for a map to be created or modified, (s)he can then see the proposed image and comment on it. The same goes for the other cartographers; they can and do comment on the proposed image, or modify the SVG themselves. If you browse the French graphics lab, you can see that this has worked quite well -- it's an amazingly productive community. Whatever the auspices under which this sort of process takes place matter little to me, so long as they faciliate colaboration, which is the wiki way.
- As for the colors, well, that sort of stuff can be standardised. But I'd encourage you to give the graphics lab a second thought -- it's very user-friendly for both map-markers and those who ask for maps to be made. Thanks. --Zantastik talk 08:55, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- I think the Graphics Lab is a great idea. I've checked in on the French version from time to time (despite my poor Français) and I've often thought how useful it would be to have a group of experts like that here.
- My concern is that we don't need a third way to request maps or yet another set of suggested colors (etc.). Let's figure out how to leverage the existing infrastructure. Thanks, MapMaster 13:47, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Okay - WOW! That was some work you did on the template! Thanks a ton!
PS: Have you considered joining WP:LGBT?
PPS: Where in TN?
-- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 07:08, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks -- it's nice of you to say so :) Jersyko and I wrote all but 3 of those little articles as well as List of defense of marriage amendments by type and most of Defense of marriage amendment. As far as WP:LGBT goes, thanks for the offer but I'm not sure I can join it at this time. I have a lot of different things on wikipedia going on right now and I'm afraid of over-committing myself. (I'm active on FR as well and about to start spending more or my wikitime there and a little less here). But WP:LGBT looks like a great project and I wish you the best of luck there, and I'd hardly rule out doing something there from time to time. (By the way, while I'm a great believer in NPOV, I'm also a great believer in gay rights). I'm in west Tennessee; what about you? --Zantastik talk 07:32, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
- So that was a lot of work! Good job! Part of the reason I asked about WP:LGBT is because one of the sub-groups is a translation group, and they'd love to have your input. If you get time and energy (and I understand about over-reaching :), feel free to sign up or just drop by and see what's going on. I'm currently in Memphis, but only for tonight. I've lived (and will be returning to) the Nashville area. Anyway, thanks again! -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 08:03, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
