Hi Zanoni, and thanks for your additions to the Martin Gilks article. Please, however, take care to incorporate your additions into what is already there and not just wipe over the existing content, as this can cause problems. For example, Reef, A and Hundred Reasons were correctly linked before, but you removed the link to Hundred Reasons and A and changed the Reef to Reef. Undoing other people's work where there's something wrong with it is to be encouraged, but undoing other people's work and replacing it with incorrect links or no links at all is only likely to wind folk up! Thanks, CLW 08:31, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This article Leon Weil to which you contributed has been merged with Léon Weil (with an acute accent on the e of Léon), which already existed. See also fr:Léon Weil and nl:Léon Weil for versions of the article in other languages. TruthbringerToronto 18:25, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia by creating the page Greenbank Halls. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Kindly DO NOT delete my work - this was a work in progress which I was about to add additional historical content to - which would have explained it's notability. THANK YOU. How rude... Steve-Ho 22:54, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please remember to be civil in your interactions with editors. The speedy deletion process is not rude and all articles are subject to review from the moment of their creation. You can develop articles in a user sub-page without fear of deletion, allowing you time to add sources and references before publication. Halls of Residence are rarely notable, as evinced in Wikipedia:List of bad article ideas; the article contained no claims as-to notability, sources or references and was deleted for these reasons. (aeropagitica) 23:01, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough I guess - but I also think that at the end of the day you are being premature. I have been editing wikipedia for 18 months now and I haven't had that type of response. Given the dodgy edits and vandalism I regularly clean up, i do worry when people click delete that quickly when there is so much content that does really need sorting out Steve-Ho 23:05, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Then you understand about sandboxes and providing reliable sources and verifiable information for articles? Excellent! If it is a notable piece of architecture - listed? Award winning? Develop the article with these sources at the forefront before publication. The article will then have all of its claims of notability presented and speedy deletion will not be an issue. I can get you a copy of the text if you require it. (aeropagitica) 23:14, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You are ok, I have it as a txt document - and I can return at some point with the fully finished article, all referenced up. Sorry for snapping - long day - time for bed and a chance to recharge. Cheers Steve-Ho 23:19, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No worries - we've all been there before! Goodnight! (aeropagitica) 23:20, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Peel artists category for deletion

[edit]

Hi - it is currently likely the category for artists who recorded Peel Sessions may be deleted. I think you contributed or supported it at one time. If you support keeping it please contribute here[1] Thanks Tony Corsini 01:48, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Antwi

[edit]

You are quite right, I may have been a bit hasty in changing it, I will not object if you change it back, although I do think this is an area ripe for confusion - born in Ghana, but has indeed played for Spain youth teams - could play for either at full international level. I don't know if any consensus has been established for this sort of thing, but it is an issue that needs to be addressed. In the meantime, sorry for jumping the gun a bit, I was just responding to the fact that the reference you provided refers to him as Ghanaian. Robotforaday 12:27, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ndiwa

[edit]

Hi, I've suggested your new page Lord Kangana Ndiwa be merged with his existing page Kangama Ndiwa. Your page seems to have more info, and I believe his name to be 'Kangana' rather than 'Kangama' from his Bolton days (but then I've also seen his name written 'Ndiwa Lord Kangana') but as yours is the newer, I thought I'd mention it to you. Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Egan86 (talkcontribs) 20:03, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, the Conference is not considered to be fully-professional, as at least five of the teams (Histon, Barrow, Lewes, Altrincham, and one other I've forgotten) are only part-time -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 14:40, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Too many times have I seen these football transfers cause a million and one edits with little benefit! It's all honest mistakes though, so I think these hidden messages make sense. Would you consider userfying the article which you put up for deletion? The will delete the article from main space completely and move it to a sub-page of the creators.

The editor is a fairly new editor, and this will give the new user a chance to rework this article and maybe wikipedia will get a long term dedicated editor

Please let me know as soon as possible, because as soon as someone else comments on the AfD (keep or delete), they must agree also before I can userfy the article. Thanks for your time.Ikip (talk) 19:02, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

moved from user talk:ikip:
I can see it must be difficult for new editors but surely at present this article (and at least one other that the editor created on 12 Sept (Michael McEntagart) fail both WP:ATH and WP:GNG) If you think userfying helps keep an editor then sure, but it surely opens up creation of a whole pile of other pages for players who have not played a match for a side in a fully professional league etc. By thw way, how do you become an editor. I have over 5800 edits in 4 years and I've never been approached! Steve-Ho (talk) 19:14, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I won't userfy it unless you fully support the idea. Please let me know here.
You mean an admin? you can nominate yourself, but better for someone else too. I can answer any questions you have here. Ikip (talk) 19:17, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Admin

[edit]

Asking me how to become an admin is like asking someone who has never fixed a sink how to become a plumber. I am not an admin, nor despite my 40,000 edits will i ever be one [to controversial]. That said, ask at: Wikipedia_talk:Requests_for_adminship. Ikip (talk) 20:47, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

not done yet:
Maybe you can start a Wikipedia:Editor review on youself first. Let editors comment on how you are doing.
Ask Admins what they do. they tend to be a helpful bunch, they will gladly answer questions, there is a list for admins.
There has been a scholarly study on what steps editors have taken to become admins, what works and what does not. I will find it. Ikip (talk) 21:04, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

[edit]

Hi, just to mention, in case you didn't realise, that categories shouldn't be added to an article unless there's sourced evidence for the category within the article: see Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Categories. Please could you add a reference to verify the Category:Alumni of the University of Salford that you added to Mark Kilty and Matt Barrass (footballer born 1980). Or if you haven't got a source at the moment, please would you go back and remove the category until you can source it. Thanks, Struway2 (talk) 13:16, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe that David Percy satisfies WP:Notability (academics). Phil Scarf might, but is on the edge. Can you provide more references establishing their notability? Thanks, Pdcook (talk) 00:36, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on David Percy requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. The article Phil Scarf has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails Wikipedia:notability (academics)

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Pdcook (talk) 14:04, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I was not aware that Phil Scarf was editor in chief of a journal; I thought he was just an editor. If you're certain of his role as editor in chief, just add a reference and remove the prod and I'll leave this one alone. Regards, Pdcook (talk) 07:24, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I guess he is at least the most senior editor, but I find it odd that the journal doesn't use the title "editor-in-chief." Nonetheless, if you remove the prod I won't put if up for AfD. However, the article currently does call him the "editor-in-chief" and perhaps that should be changed to something more accurate. Regards, PDCook (talk) 18:37, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the Oxford University Press published journals for the IMA, it seems that only one of the journals has an editor-in-chief, the others seem to have two/ three editors and then various Associate Editors. There is one journal, which seems to have four editors who are all called 'editors-in-chief' here!!

PROD removed. Steve-Ho (talk) 21:58, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Zanoni! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 92 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Your contributed article, Yohannes Tilahun

[edit]

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Yohannes Tilahun. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Etriea National Football Team. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Etriea National Football Team - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Ronk01 talk, 14:34, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Etriean Footballers

[edit]

While they may be (barely) notable, as of right now, there is not enough information to warrant their having individual pages, simply putting the information in the article would have been a better editorial decision, and one that I will be advocating through a proposed merge. There in no need to create dozens of low quality substubs for a football team most Wikipedia readers will never hear of. Ronk01 talk, 19:36, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's not the point - the stub articles are for players and not for a team. If a player has been capped at full international level by a FIFA member (even if just once) they meet the guidelines - see Wikipedia:WikiProject_Football/Notability for details - reference no.3 on the list Steve-Ho (talk) 21:44, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but if there is insufficient information for a whole article, it is often best to simply put said information on the team page, rather than creating low quality, confusing substubs. Additionally, what you reference is an essay, essays have no official bearing on policy, and are more informative than directive. Ronk01 talk, 02:31, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I can tell, the citation provided from a Kenyan news source means they pass the guidelines here: Wikipedia:Notability (sports)#Association football. --Patar knight - chat/contributions 02:54, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The articles clearly reference news articles and not "essays" - see [2] and [3] (The Standard is Kenya's largest newspaper, and the various different player articles reference match reports from the competition). Some also reference AllAfrica.com = [4] and [5] - which "is among the Internet's largest content sites, posting over 1000 stories daily in English and French and offering a diversity of multi-lingual streaming programming as well as over 900,000 articles in our searchable archive (which includes the archive of Africa News Service dating from 1997)" [6] Steve-Ho (talk) 07:14, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was referring to the Football notability essay, not the source. Merging the Articles into a "Players" section on the main page would be the best option. In fact, unless a player is particularly notable (ie. David Beckam, Peyton Manning, etc.) I personally feel that no sports participant deserves their own page, especially when they belong to a rather obscure team like Etriea's (or even my own U.S. team). I've restored the article. Cheers, пﮟოьεԻ 57 08:18, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

David Amoo

[edit]

I am not sure what or where your "dropbox" is, but I have created User:Zanoni\David Amoo. I am not 100% sure whether this was a good idea, as policy is that articles created by banned or blocked users should be deleted. Perhaps it will be best if you substantially rewrite the article. Thanks for moving the deleted article into my namespace (I meant userspace, but I was tired!) - I've tidied the article up, removing the uncited parts and restored a version of it Steve-Ho (talk) 20:26, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Without consideration of any issue other than naming, I have moved the article to User:Zanoni/David Amoo. —C.Fred (talk) 21:56, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that is, of course, where I meant to put it. Thanks, C.Fred. I will delete the redirect at User:Zanoni\David Amoo. JamesBWatson (talk) 06:56, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, re your message, WP:NSPORT is a guideline and not policy, and my view is that playing in Iceland's top-level is notable, although notwithstanding that I added two independent media sources to the article in order to try and assert him meeting WP:GNG. What's the difference between Steve-Ho and Zanoni? Regards. Eldumpo (talk) 21:16, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure they'd be eligible for speedy deletion, so as far as I can see PROD is the only way to go...GiantSnowman 22:57, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
