Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Zanimum! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 42 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 51 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

The article Elizabeth Macleod has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:AUTHOR; no significant coverage in reliable, secondary sources.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. NW (Talk) 21:09, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on P. Arthanari Swamy requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. File permission problem with File:Toronto Sun election coverage.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Toronto Sun election coverage.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. 117Avenue (talk) 23:40, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Arctic.gnome has added the rationale, but could you please specify the source. (Did you scan, photograph, download, etc.) Thanks. Mindmatrix 00:24, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Happy Meals requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I have nominated Sabrina Online, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sabrina Online (2nd nomination). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

The article Errol Louis has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Hi,
You need to provide an episode as a citation. And since that would be Season 2, it is currently out of episode sequence, eh.

They never did build the Canadian theme section they promised before they built it, did they?

Delivered by MessageDeliveryBot on behalf of WikiProject Wikify at 19:05, 30 November 2010 (UTC).[reply]

Hi Zanimum,

I've seen that you've contributed some to a few Sesame Street articles. I must tell you, I am shocked--shocked! I mean, I'm usually the only person in the whole of Wikipedia working on them, so to see someone actually start to do something substantial with them...well, I don't know what to think about that! ;)

I'm surprised that you put up Sesame Street research up for GA. I mean, I'm very proud of that article, but I get a little nervous about submitting "my" articles for GA and FA. The whole process can be somewhat painful, especially an FAC. I appreciate that you think well of it to nominate it, though. Sometimes I need a kick in the behind to go the next step in the improvement process. I also noticed that you made some additions to International co-productions of Sesame Street, which is probably my favorite SS article I've written. (Do you think it has the potential to move on from GA to an FAC?) None of your additions are supported by an outside source. Did you know that you can use episodes, DVDs, and even YouTube clips as sources? You just have to cite it. Where did you get the information you added? One thing I'm trying to avoid is for editors to add content from their memory, the whole "I saw that on Sesame Street when I was three!" kind of thing. That OR, and not allowed here, ya know.

Anyway, thanks for your input. I've felt kind of lonely in working on these articles, although I can attest that it's been loads of fun. See ya around! Christine (talk) 14:09, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Christine! Nice to be back in the fray, after a bit of a disconnect from Wikipedia for a while. I presume you realize from talk pages, but I was originally in your position with the Sesame Street articles, an essentially lone contributor! It's amazing the revisions that you've made, not only whipping the core articles into shape, but creating various new ones from scratch. Thumbs up.
As for the GA nomination, I know how you feel. The nomination processes for anything these days, articles and users, is quite intense. Personal aside... whereas to become an admin nowadays, you face the firing line, back in 2003 or so, I was like "hey, I've got free time during my first period spare at high school, and there's a lot of uncontrolled vandalism then, d'ya want help?" Back to the nomination, I'm behind you all the way during the review process, here to help where I can with revisions. (The amount you're being subject to for History of Sesame Street... yeesh.) There's a few things in the modern era that I'd like to discuss with you, as possibly worth mention, though possibly not, before you send the history to FAC, but that's any other discussion for a bit later.
I'll take tonight to review the international co-production article, see where revisions could be made. It's a tricky topic, as coverage isn't always even handed. In the mean time, I've cited the changes, albeit to articles partially behind paywalls. The free summaries include the relevant info, though, so that's a relief. (There used to be a brilliant, academic article about Sesame Park when I was volunteering for DMOZ, c. 2000 or 2001, but it's long gone. If I remember correctly, archive.org hadn't bothered to scoop it up.) I privately have the complete Sesame Park episode guide, but its source isn't fully publicly accessible, so...
Anyway, more in a bit! -- Zanimum (talk) 22:16, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Z, that's so awesome that you're back. I've had so much fun working on these articles, and it'd be great to have someone along for the ride. The fun, to be honest, is what overrides the drama. There's no way I'd ever put myself through an RfA; I doubt that my nomination would be successful anyway, since I've been snarky and refused to suffer fools here. It's not that I've made enemies--I haven't. It's just that I'm sure that there's enough in my edit summaries that would cause me trouble. Not that it matters, anyway. I play in my own little corner in this big pond and make contributions when and how I can and have fun doing it. Which is the point, right?
Currently, the history article is being copyedited, or at least someone told me he was planning on it. I agree, the process getting it to GA was ridiculous. First, it was too American--hello, it's an American show, right? Then the images, which are always a headache for me. I will tell you right now that if its current images get in the way of a successful FAC, I'll withdraw it, and settle for the GA. The alternative is no images, and I'd rather that it be accessed at a lower level than lose them. There seems to be an attitude by some reviewers of these articles that it's not important enough.[2] It makes me wonder if reviewers are harder on them as a result, but that could just be me, being paranoid again. ;) I'd love to hear more about the modern era of The Show, since most of the materials I have (including Davis) focus on early history.
I saw your revisions to the co-productions article. I don't tend to use paywalled sources, to coin a phrase, but then again, I do use books. If they're the only sources, they'll have to do. Like I said, I'm very proud of this little article. Personally, I think it's very even-handed and has lots of good sources, like the documentary. (You can't beat J.G. Cooney saying, "We're like missionaries" with a straight face. Can I please meet her?) Remember, sources don't always *have* to be publicly accessible; they just have to be reliable and third-party.[3] So it's appropriate to use your Sesame Park collection.
Let's keep the discussion over here. The alternative is to start a Muppet Wikiproject. There's already been some discussion about it. I think that there's enough of us interested, so I may just go ahead and do it. Christine (talk) 23:07, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, call me Nick. I've never changed my username signature, but I'm also open with my identity.
Good philosophies towards editing. It's a jungle here occasionally, nice to find a couple of good treehouses to stay away from the monkeys.
Images are a pain, with culture articles. It's a Catch-22, ridiculous. If need be, we can work the cast and crew. Amongst the humans, Gordon/Bob/Alan/Maria/Leela are all fairly openly approachable, and various puppeteers for the show have semi-public presences. Beyond that, I write an occasional “Children's TV (Canada)” column for Examiner.com, so I can possibly sweet talk them into releasing some less valuable file photos. I doubt it, but maybe. If you can suggest specific images, I can try and track.
I think many reviewers are used to TV articles as being a scourge on the project. Every Pokemon having an article was one of the early battles. That sort of stuff rippled out to every other end of the TV realm on WP.
I agree, Joan's amazing. Do you know about her 9 part interview? It's quite broad sweeping, not sure if I ever have watched past a few parts in, as I was trying to use that for her bio on WP.
Yeah, the paywall's a bummer, but I've honestly never seen more than trivial mention of the show in books. There's one directory of Canadian television shows, published about 2002, but I don't really remember it discussed in there. (Was the bit about Basil being a full-body character from Cole or Gikow, or elsewhere?)
I'm surprised that private files are okay, I always thought accessibility was part of it.
There was a Muppet Wikiproject ages and ages ago, or perhaps it was just a portal... portals were such a blip on the radar of Wikipedia, essentially a front page, but theme specific. -- Zanimum (talk) 01:11, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The Cooney interview looks great; I'll have to check it out sometime. All Muppet articles could use some good free images, I think. The Basil info was from Gikow. She probably has the best content about the co-productions out there, other than the documentary. Christine (talk) 12:57, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sesame Street characters

[edit]

Hi Z, just saw what you did to the characters list. At first, I was like, "Wha..", but after getting over the shock, I like it. I have a few suggestions, though. How about we divide this list into three: "Human characters of Sesame Street", "Animated characters of Sesame Street", and "Sesame Street Muppets". I'd like to see the table of all three be designed the same; I like the original, with images to the right, since that tends to be the traditional design of lists in WP. I'll move behind you and fix all the refs, which were messed up in the moves. I think the leads you wrote are a good start, but I'd like to expand/improve them at some point. Also, could you give some kind of warning before you do something like this again? You almost gave this old lady a heart attack! ;) Christine (talk) 21:30, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, Z. Noticed your changes to the Humans list this morning, and to the SS template. Good work, but I have a few thoughts I'd like to share with you. Re: the list you added to the end of the Humans list: Please see the sections "Possible criteria for inclusion" and "Sources" on Talk:List of characters in Sesame Street, where a sort of policy for character inclusion in that list has emerged. I think that since the items in the list you added has no sources, and because the characters aren't "notable," they don't belong. I also think that these policies should be standardized to all SS lists. My inclination is to delete your list, sorry.

I liked the changes you made to the template. While working on improving the Humans list, I reconsidered my position about further splitting List of characters in Sesame Street and creating "List of animated characters on Sesame Street." I think that list would be long enough, and it would help making the main list smaller. I was going to do that next, but I've gotten distracted by the (failed) History of Sesame Street FAC, which I have two weeks to work on before resubmitting. I could see the Humans list, with further improvements, become a featured list, I really could. Of course, I'm sure we'd get dinked (haha, pun intended) for the images, but I have an email to SW requesting permission to use their images here. (I'm not holding my breath, doncha know.) Whatcha think? Christine (talk) 18:06, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Interactive Urinal Communicator requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Oddbodz (talk) 17:18, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

hammerspace cartoon

[edit]

It seems weird to me to include one of those admittedly clever Wikipedia cartoons in the article that the cartoon was made to illustrate - it's sort of like using the article as source material for itself. Don't you think? - DavidWBrooks (talk) 14:46, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In a way, yes, but in absence of any other free image illustrating the concept... what if I were to see of Greg had higher-res, and I Photoshop it so that it's just the monkey, and monkey with hammer? -- Zanimum (talk) 16:01, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In my ever-so-humble (ha!) opinion, I don't think an illustrative picture is needed in this case, unless it could be a picture of its use "in the wild" in a real-world cartoon - but that runs into the free-image issue. I think the description is quite clear. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 16:45, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Copying within Wikipedia

[edit]

Hi. :) I see that yesterday you added content to Wedding dress of Kate Middleton that you copied from another article, here. I just wanted to bring you up to date on how these are handled. In order to meet attribution requirements, we have to at least provide a wikilink to the article from which we're copying. "Main article" isn't really sufficient, I'm afraid, as we guarantee our contributors at minimum attribution through a hyperlink or URL. I know it took me a few minutes to figure out which article you meant (not following this story). In this case, I really needed to know, as the content is a violation of our copyright policy, with material taken directly from the BBC article sourced. :/ In terms of in-Wiki copying, Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia includes more information, particularly on what to do when content copied is more extensive than that. I'll take care of providing full attribution here, but wanted to be sure you knew for future reference. :) If you know that you've copied content into any other articles, please make sure that it's fully attributed so we can comply with our contributors' license. Thanks. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:33, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Most of the clubs she was the head of have to be word for word, so I guess thats why it looks like it was lifted of the page. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 13:49, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

And for the last edit, I did not undo your edit it just says that. I did make changes, please let me know if it still looks like it was lifted of the website. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 13:51, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If indeed it was a rewrite, I'll let you revert it back in. -- Zanimum (talk) 13:55, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Intellivision_on_demand.PNG)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Intellivision_on_demand.PNG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 21:35, 6 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Z, I see that you made some additions to this list. I've already changed some things, but I wanted to talk to you before making other changes. Thanks for your contributions. The list is currently an FLC, but to be honest, other than maintaining it, I've lost my interest in the entire process. It has languished at FLC for a very long time, but I don't care.

At any rate, I thought that I'd just list my feedback here, if you don't mind:

  • References: there are a few reference issues with what you added. Please make sure that when you add a new reference, that you follow the existing format. That's why I changed ref 16, and I would've changed more if I didn't have the issues below. I'm a stickler regarding sources, so forgive the pickiness.
  • Ref 43: As far as I'm concerned, this newspaper article is unnecessary. It gives Arkin's name, but not his role on The Show. Remember, we should only add information we can find a source for, and not information from wikis or from our memories.
  • Ref 44: It looks like this source is about Arkin, but not about Dana. The URL brings us to the book listing on Google; make sure that if you use an URL, we have access to the content. If you have access to the particular book, go ahead and use it, as long as it's complete, with page numbers and such. You don't have to provide the URL to the book listing. If you don't have the full source information, you shouldn't include it. My inclination is to remove ref 43 and 44, along with the information you claim they support.
  • Ref 77: Personal websites are not reliable sources. (See WP:SPS.) Martin's website doesn't state that she reprised her SCTV role on Sesame Street. When I googled her, I found some video clips, which are permissible. I recommend that we use one on those, and then remove the SCTV stuff, unless we find a more reliable source for it.
  • Kermit Love: The sources you provide doesn't support the information you added about him.
  • Captions: You did some strange things. Did you mean to separate "plaid" into "pla id" in Roscoe Orman's caption? You also changed things like "woman in her 60s" into "woman in her 1960s". That's inaccurate. Christine (talk) 12:44, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Liza147.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Liza147.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 23:32, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
