Language policy in Finland
Hi. I have a question for you. After creating the List of Swedish-speaking and bilingual municipalities of Finland (which is, by the way, [[Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Swedish-speaking and bilingual municipalities of Finland|an FLC candidate), I realised this area should perhaps be a little better organised. We have Swedish-speaking Finns, Languages of Finland, Finland's language strife and Mandatory Swedish. What we do not have is de:Finnische Sprachenpolitik / fi:Suomen kielipolitiikka. Should we? Or does that content belong in Finland's language strife? Either way, it seems there's some translation to be done, if you're interested. Biruitorul 17:12, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. Since I don't speak Spanish, I ran the text through Babelfish; because of its usual rather poor quality, I couldn't be sure, but there was a possibility in my mind that she was a TV star. Nyttend 13:24, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
As an aftrerthought, I do not think it is your fault for not detecting that 環宇財務顧問 was a copyvio. I could manage to locate the original creator's other copyvio quick enough, but it took me a bit of playing around with the URL of his source website before I got the source page for this one.
By the way, it is impossible to discover copy-and-pastes in Chinese using Google. It was totally useless when checking against this one. Or if Googling's possible, the method of doing so correctly eludes me. I wonder how the Chinese Wikipedia ferrets them out (they have a copyvio listing that's not as long as hours, but not short either, last I looked). In general, yes, PROD would be an ok way to address deletion of things that have passed through WP:PNT and not resulted in an English translation. The reason why I would favor PROD is that there is the non-zero chance that a native speaker might become aware of the article outside the context of WP:PNT and step forward to do a translation; that is, I'm assuming that there is a practical but low level of controversy in the deletion. In the case of the AFD that I closed, WP:CSD#A2 would have also been appropriate as the article had been transwikied to a non-English Wikipedia. I didn't want to bring up CSD in the AFD closure because I think that CSD is in general heavily overused, and mentioning in this context would appear to be an invitation for people to speedy anything non-English even though the criterion is worded more narrowly than that. Sorry for assuming people cut corners (I'm still assuming good faith). --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 14:20, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Translation Question
Hi there,
Apologies for asking you without knowing you first, but I have this strong feeling you could be able to guide me in my quest. I am working on a set of pages related to numismatics, specifically of the Euro zone. Right now I am working on Euro gold and silver commemorative coins (Finland); if you are interested in seen other works, the portal is Euro gold and silver commemorative coins where articles of other countries can be seen. For the Finish article, As you might see all the numismatic data and pictures are there, but the designs of the coins are so abstract that just looking at them a description can not be made. There are tons of pages that describe these coins, with the original explanation of the design, but all of them in either Finish or Swedish. What is the easiest way to get help on the translations? As you can imagine we are talking about one paragraph per coin, which is not labor intensive and I do not mind to do just one coin a day or something similar in order not to burden the translators. Any advice?
Thanks, Miguel.mateo (talk) 07:25, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
- The official way is to create a page at Wikipedia:Translation and leave the same request on Wikipedia:Translation/*/Lang/fi, but I'm not sure how active anyone is right now. I myself am without an Internet connection until probably the end of the year, otherwise I would volunteer :) You might try contacting JIP as he might know who to ask if he doesn't have time. Good luck with the project! -Yupik (talk) 11:27, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

"Germanisms" page
Do you suspect the Germanisms page is too full of baloney to be worth keeping? I was starting to copy-edit it, recognizing that it lacked verification for almost all items. Then I noticed you zapped the Finnish section, which made me wonder if perhaps the whole thing is BS. Jlg4104 (talk) 04:21, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
I wonder if it would be worth salvaging -- perhaps a page on "Loan words (verifiable)" for loans to and from various languages? It's an important topic, or at least interesting, and it would be a shame to toss the whole thing if some at least is good. Jlg4104 (talk) 04:47, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi! As you identify yourself a linguist and polyglot, I imagine you get many such requests, but could I persuade you to check a translation for me? It's a short excerpt from Lope de Vega's Isidoro de Madrid, in Homo unius libri#Interpretations. My translation is in the footnote. The Spanish seems a little archaic, and it's in verse, so this was a challenge for me and I could use your input (especially for the line «como van dejando atrás», which I translated to maintain the meter rather than literally). Unreferenced BLPs
Hello Yupik! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 4 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 35 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:
- Yoshio Masui - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
- Signmark - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
- Timo Tompuri - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
- Matti Yrjölä - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Bryggskjuts
I think it may be another word for mjölkskjuts, [1], going from farm to farm picking up milk from the "mjölkbrygga" [2]. But I can't find any references for that. --OpenFuture (talk) 08:11, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

A Request for Help
Hi there Yupik :), I noticed your username on Translators Available Finnish to English. I was wondering if you could help with updating Riaz Ahmed Gohar Shahi on the Finnish Wikipedia? Riaz Ahmed Gohar Shahi on the English Wikipedia has been majorly revamped- particularly, its being treated as a BLP now, since no ones been able to find evidence of his death. I don't really know much Finnish, so I'd really appreciate your help in this :), although I understand if you don't have the time. Thanks in advance! Tapaaminen
Hei. -- Cimon Avaro; on a pogostick. (talk) 23:38, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer
Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:37, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
- You are also now a rollbacker—it's a useful tool to revert vandalism with just one click instead of having to go through the Undo headaches. Incidentally, if you don't want that tool, just let me know, I'll switch it off for you. Otherwise you should find it somewhat helpful. Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); June 17, 2010; 19:02 (UTC)
- Thank you very much! It is a wonderful tool. I've gotten quite used to it on the Northern Sámi wikipedia as I'm a bureaucrat/administrator there. Quite good news, thanks! :) -Yupik (talk) 10:11, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
WikiProject Theoretical Linguistics
Hello, I am trying to bring WP:WikiProject Theoretical Linguistics back to semi-active status. Toward that end, I have moved all members who have not posted to the project page in the past six months to a section, "Inactive members." If you wish to be active in the project, I hope you will move your name back to the section, "Members." You may also remove your name if you are no longer interested in the project. Thanks, and happy editing, Cnilep (talk) 17:44, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Added template for SuggestBot
Hi,
Thanks for being one of SuggestBot's users! I hope you have found the bot's suggestions useful.
We are in the process of switching from our previous list-based signup process to using templates and userboxes, and I have therefore added the appropriate template to your user talk page. You should receive the first set of suggestions within a day, and since we'll be automating SuggestBot you will from then on continue to receive them regularly at the desired frequency.
We now also have a userbox that you can use to let others know you're using SuggestBot, and if you don't want to clutter your user talk page the bot can post to a sub-page in your userspace. More information about the userbox and usage of the template is available on User:SuggestBot/Getting Recommendations Regularly.
If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me on my user talk page. Thanks again, Nettrom (talk) 17:30, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
