UAA report

Thank you for your report at Wikipedia:Usernames for administrator attention (UAA). However, your report was removed as UAA is for name policy infringements that are serious enough to warrant an immediate block. General name policy violations should first be discussed with the user on their talk page. A helpful template to do just that is {{subst:Uw-username}}. Note that a request for comment can be filed if the user disagrees that their name is against the username policy, or has continued to edit after you have expressed your concern. You may find the UAA instructions helpful, and I'd recommend reading them over prior to making future reports to UAA. Thank you. Note This is in regards to Cleverpoo. GOCE newsletter

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

GOCE September 2010 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Participation report — We have 71 participants in the September drive. 95 people signed up for the July drive, and in May we had 36.

Progress report — We have been making solid progress in eliminating the 2008 articles from the backlog so far. If we continue to focus our firepower we can completely wipe out 2008 from the queue. Overall volumes are lower than expected though, with nearly a thousand articles yet to be done if we are to meet our overall target. If you have not yet participated in the drive, we recommend you do so. If each person who signed up edits one article per day from now till the end of the month we can eliminate another 1,065 articles from the backlog. All contributions are appreciated.

Announcement: credit for 10k+ articles — Participants editing a 10k word article may claim credit for two 5k+ articles on the leaderboard. Those that edit a 15k word article may claim credit for three. Regardless, the article is still counted as a single article in the tallies.

Reminder — Articles from the Requests page can be included in your tally, even if they do not have a copy edit tag. This is a great place to go if you are interested in finding a higher quality article to work on.

Globus family of brands

Yousou- I declined your original speedy deletion of the Globus family of brands page because you submitted the request BEFORE the article was complete and adequately sourced. You have since deleted it again and I'm requesting that you restore the article. While you may have deemed it "unambiguous advertising/promotion" - everything in the article was created based on third-party, editorial resources. I ask that you review the sources provided to see that this isn't advertising/promotion, but instead, is a legitimate article that has the sources to back-up that claim. And, I ask how this article differs from other travel companies on Wikipedia (The Travel Corporation, Hilton Hotels, Uniworld, Viking River Cruises, Carnival Cruises, etc.)?

If you still agree with your first compulsion to delete, I would appreciate some constructive feedback to assist me with recreating and reposting an article titled, Globus family of brands.

Thank you for your time and suggestions. (Melaniegravdal (talk) 15:54, 15 September 2010 (UTC))

Adminstrators decline or accept speedy deletions; you are not one of them.

Ford was VP of Panama, surely a notable person. The article, however, was an attack page. Let's keep our eyyes on this one. Bearian (talk) 22:01, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

I don't believe it is appropriate for users to refer to themselves or to be able to refer to themselves as "grammar nazis". I don't think it's appropriate to somehow link a penchant for proper grammar with the genocide of millions of Jews. Perhaps you should use the word "stickler". Especially coming from a secondary student. In post-secondary, you will learn how to be more sensitive to others. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.2.100.106 (talk) 04:47, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

Please help me stop whacking myself with an hammer. Grammar Nazi is a term for someone who is over-cautious with Grammar and spelling. Please read WP:NPA. Thank you. Yousou (talk) 15:29, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

BFG (web framework)

Hi!

I honestly don't see where you are coming from here... OK if you didn't think it was notable or something, but spam? For what? And whom? --OpenFuture (talk) 19:47, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

You voted there, so I am leaving this note on your talk page. I have entirely rewritten the article, and put all the prose into 2010 North Carolina Tar Heels football team. I still think we should just leave it as a merge, but I'd appreciate your input. Nolelover 14:32, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

I think the consensus will probably be Merge. You did a pretty good re-write that will merge perfectly in the respective article if the consensus is found to merge.

September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive Conclusion

GOCE September 2010 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated! Several of our top editors were called away to real life concerns during the month (be careful out there, people!). This meant that once again, we did not meet all our lofty targets, but we did come close.

Stats

  • Out of 76 registered editors, 45 actively participated.
  • We nearly wiped out the 2008 articles from the backlog—there were only 13 remaining when the drive closed.
  • We reduced the backlog by 725 articles (11.5%), so it was another successful drive.
  • A total of 59 barnstars will be awarded to 40 editors—well done, and congratulations to all.

Barnstars
If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you edited in the July 2010 GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive, you may have earned rollover words, which counted towards this month's barnstars (except for the leaderboard awards). Any unused word credits will be held over for the next drive, as long as you participated in the September drive. Over the course of the next week or two, we will be handing out the barnstars. Click here to see a list of barnstar winners.

  • We will be holding our next drive in November. You can sign up here.

A huge "thank you" to all editors who helped clear the backlog and to others who helped out behind-the-scenes. See you at the next drive, and until then, please continue to help us work through the backlog. Happy editing!

Speedy deletion declined: Black/White

Hello Yousou, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Black/White, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Artist's article exists. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. Dabomb87 (talk) 20:26, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

It is however not notable, has no real content, and is misnamed. So it should still be deleted. --OpenFuture (talk) 20:43, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
Feel free to PROD it, then. Dabomb87 (talk) 20:46, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

William H. Brackney

Yousou,

You tagged the article William H. Brackney for speedy delete. I immediately deleted the tag and instead switched to an AfD. The deletion discussion is pretty much a unanimous vote to keep the article on Wikipedia - one you nominated for speedy delete. The user who created the article joined on October 8. With all that said, I need to remind you to not bite the newcomers. Tylerbennicke did a good job with his/her first article, and didn't deserve this treatment. Thank you. D O N D E groovily Talk to me 02:06, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

I didn't mean that as a personal attack. And I'm aware that you didn't make any personal attacks against the article author. However, getting delete threats is the kind of thing that will scare away new users. The article in questions clearly did not meet speedy delete guidelines: "An article about a real person...that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant...The criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance..." The article clearly stated that he is a distinguished professor. This is a credible claim of significance.
Biting newcomers doesn't require personal attacks. It states the following: "Observe for a while and, if necessary, ask what the newcomer is trying to achieve before concluding that their efforts are substandard or that they are simply "wrong."" As far as I can tell, you made no attempt to contact the author before placing the speedy tag - if you had, you would have seen another user compliment him for a great article on his talk page. D O N D E groovily Talk to me 13:28, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion converted to PROD: Conotheism

Hello Yousou, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I have converted the speedy deletion tag that you placed on Conotheism to a proposed deletion tag. The speedy deletion criteria are extremely narrow to protect the encyclopedia, and do not fit the page in question. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. Dabomb87 (talk) 21:23, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Bernardo Quintana

yikes! that was fast... too fast! You deleted an article we are trying to create for my Business English class. I know it was only two lines and no citations as of yet, but the student wanted to know how to start an article. Mr Quintana is notable as he was one of the primary desigers of the Mexico City Metro system and has an article in Spanish language WP. My students are supposed to sketch an outline and begin the article next week. They have handed me bibliographies and proposals to show that the article is viable. Can you revert the delete?Thelmadatter (talk) 00:09, 16 October 2010 (UTC) I am not an WP:ADMIN, please take this up with the deleting admin. Yousou (report) 10:39, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

November copy edit drive

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invites you to participate in the November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 November at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 November at 23:59 (UTC). The goal for this drive is to reduce the backlog by 10% (approximately 500 articles). We hope to focus our efforts on the oldest three months (January, February, and March 2009) and the newest three months (September, October, and November 2010) of articles in the queue.

Sign-up has already begun at the November drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page.

Before you begin copy-editing, please carefully read the instructions on the main drive page. Please make sure that you know how to copy-edit, and be familiar with the Wikipedia Manual of Style.

Awards and barnstars

A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants, some of which are exclusive to GOCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page.

Thank you; we look forward to meeting you on the drive!

How on earth did you manage to establish in 43 seconds that none of the statements in the article amounts to an indication of importance or significance? Please slow down and think about what you are doing, as such taggings are disruptive to the building of this encyclopedia. Phil Bridger (talk) 18:09, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

(copying the reply so that we can have this discussion in one place) I recommend you calm down, and I recommend you see WP:AGF. And phrases like 'How on Earth' can breach WP:CIVILITY and WP:NPA. Please understand that WP:BIGDEAL also reflects this situation, and understand that not every nomination for CSD is passed. Many Regards, Yousou (report) 18:48, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
Pointing out what you are doing wrong is not a bad faith accusation, incivil or a personal attack. Please reply to the substantive point that I made: how (without the "on Earth" if that upsets you, although that was much milder phrasing than what first came to mind) did you determine in 43 seconds that nothing in this article, such as fellowships of academic societies, indicates importance or significance? You are not helping this encyclopedia by tagging such articles for speedy deletion or by refusing to take advice. Phil Bridger (talk) 19:02, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
(copying again to keep the discussion in one place - I'm watchlisting this page so if you want to reply again you can do so here) I normally disregard honours, qualifications, etc.; without WP:RS. Many Regards, Yousou (report) 19:04, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
Sources are not required to avoid speedy deletion under WP:CSD#A7. All that is required is an indication of importance or significance. Phil Bridger (talk) 19:13, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
(copying again)Do you recommend me PROD or AFD it then? Many Regards, Yousou (report) 19:14, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
I would recommend checking to see whether the notability claims can be confirmed by reliable sources, rather than looking for a way to get this deleted. I have added a reference to the article that confirms that the subject is a fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, which passes WP:PROF criterion 3, so this article is not deletion fodder. Phil Bridger (talk) 19:37, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
I agree with Phil. Tijfo098 (talk) 21:58, 23 October 2010 (UTC) (Unrelated to the issue.) Yousou (report) 22:03, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Biprolabdho

Hello. You notified Antu mmi on Sept. 29 that the article Biprolabdho had been tagged for speedy deletion, but I can find no record in the article's history of its being tagged on that or any date. I was about to tag it myself, but I thought I'd check and see if you could shed any light first. (I've been here for an eternity but never messed much with CSD before, so forgive me if there's an obvious explanation I'm missing.) Rivertorch (talk) 06:38, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Notability

Establish what is notable, and why, before tagging articles that are clearly improving the document. cygnis insignis 15:43, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

You are being disruptive, I'm creating an article on a notable person. cygnis insignis 15:59, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

A line needs to be drawn here. Tagging Richard Garnett (philologist) under CSD A7 is clearly not what A7 is for. Suppose you just treat that as a mistake, and we can then move on. If you need discussion, try WT:WP DNB to air the topic why DNB topics should be treated as prima facie notable. Charles Matthews (talk) 17:10, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

Blocked

Since you were engaged in an edit war over your inappropriate placement of a speedy delete tag, and since the other party was blocked for 24 hours for removing the tag ten times, and since you added the tag ten times, I have also blocked you for 24 hours. Hesperian 23:36, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

Unblock

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Yousou (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

The reason I reverted was because the original author was removing the notice, which was a violation of WP:CSD, I am, not intending to use a WP:NOTTHEM defense but, you must understand the reason why I reverted. I understand that the CSD might of been misplaced but we must also understand that not every WP:CSD nomination is passed. Thank you, Many Regards, Yousou (report) 17:32, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Decline reason:

You were indeed right to re-add the template, as the author of an article may not remove it. However, doing so repeatedly still violates WP:EW, as this is not among the exceptions that justify edit-warring.  Sandstein  18:15, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

GOCE drive invitation

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors

The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting.

This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated.

We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words".
