Speedy deletion of Larklight Trilogy

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Larklight Trilogy requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Cssiitcic (talk) 18:29, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

this does not apply to books, and as reviewing administrator, I have removed the speedy tag . However, please note that we have articles for the individual books in this trilogy, and there is no point in duplicating them. The question now is whether they should be merged into one article for the trilogy. Additionally, please be aware that the writing about novels should not be only about the plot. At the very least you need to discuss the publication history and the reviews. Please also note that it cannot be copied or paraphrased from outside sources. That last part is absolute--you must write it yourself. DGG (talk) 22:35, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}} What did you want to know? - Jarry1250 (t, c) 19:41, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, so I've had a look at your contributions, and I think it's fair to say you're pretty new to Wikipedia, its ways and customs. The links in the first paragraph on this page will help you to get up to speed.
You may also want to read about how to name pages and check our notability guideline about what you should and shouldn't write about. Mr Pratchett should be Terry Pratchett; we don't use titles in our names. You may also want to wikilink these by placing two pairs of square brackets around them, which turns their names into links to their articles (just like I've done for Terry Pratchett). Likewise, subheadings in an articles should be surrounding by a pair or equals signs (==Subheading==).
Finally, I would add that you shouldn't worry if your first articles are deleted or changed by other editors beyond recognition. Once you know the guidelines, you'll quickly get the hang of things. If you have any more queries, feel free to ask them on my talk page - but remember to sign your posts by typing four tildes (~~~~) after your question.

You may be after {{Infobox Book}} or another similar infobox, I think. - Jarry1250 (t, c) 20:24, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of David Wyatt (artist)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Mothstorm, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Mothstorm/Philip-Reeve/e/9781599903033. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Welcome! Please stick with it!

Hi there,

Welcome to wikipedia.

I guess your first experience in creating a page hasn't been too good, with you getting all those warning messages etc. I'm really sorry about that; I hope you'll give wikipedia a bit more of a chance.

I noticed the page you'd created, and it needed work to fix it. Perhaps the most important things are, it needs references and it needs to be written in 'encyclopaedic' language. This is especially important for biography pages - we need to be very careful, prove facts, etc. We can't describe a person as 'a bit weird'!

I see that you've now blanked the page - maybe you felt fed up with the whole thing?

I've had a look around, and found some basic info about David Wyatt. I have made a simple page - to stop the speedy deletion. In the next few hours, I will create a much better page.

I hope that this will give you a bit of an idea.

Please don't give up. The new page will be there very soon - see what you think, and, of course, feel free to change it.

Cheers,

EDIT: OK, I've now created the new page. Hope you like it. See the talk page for notes on what I did.

Thanks for uploading File:Larklight.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

File source problem with File:Mothstorm.jpg

[edit]
File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Mothstorm.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:38, 25 February 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 16:38, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Larklight

[edit]

Hi there,

What's happened is this;

When I restructured the whole thing, I put all 3 images at the top of the Larklight trilogy article.

You added the infobox, which I'm not too sure is appropriate for the trilogy article, because it's not a single boox...but let's go with the idea for now.

Another user edited the article, and moved the pics to be one in each section of the article.

Another user put the comment about the plot being far too long (which it is), and removed the pics (because they make it way too long, I guess).

I'm going to restore the 3 pics, on the basis that when the plot stuff is sorted, it'll work out OK.

So;

1. Please don't put a pic in the infobox of the trilogy article. Don't worry about pics, it's not really important.

2. What DOES need sorting is the plots. The ones in each book need to be rewritten, WAY shorter. I've got a good plan of how to do this, using a standard layout. Most important please read what I wrote in Talk:Larklight.

Hope this is OK - I certainly don't want to sound like I'm telling people what to do, but when several people work on articles they can end up undoing each others work - hence my suggested way forward in the talk page. If you have different ideas, please comment in there, and we can all discuss it.

Out of interest, I've also emailed the author and illustrator, asking for their input.

OK, hope this makes some kind of sense.

Oh - just one more thing - when you leave a comment on someones talk page, as you did on mine, the convention is to create a new section at the end, and leave your comment there - signed, of course. Like I've done here.

Cheers,
