Help: I want to create the same article in more than 1 language

[edit]

{{helpme}}

I want to create parallel pages in other languages (Arabic and Dutch to start with) of some of the articles I created on Wikipedia. The idea is that they will then appear in the 'other languages' toolbox on the left of the screen. To specify: I will provide the translations myself, I do not want to tender for translators/proofreading etc. by others (i.e. the standard Wiki translation request; By the way, through hell and high weather I could not find a way to ask for a translation FROM English to something else there, only TO English... see the deletion thing below). --x@x 12:09, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There are a number of separate Wikipedias, one for each language. Asking for a translation from English into another language would be done on the Wikipedia of the language that you wanted the article to be translated into. You'll notice that this website is 'en.wikipedia.org'; there are 'ar.wikipedia.org' (Arabic) and 'nl.wikipedia.org' (Dutch) Wikipedias (which I'll link here using their short forms: :ar: and :nl:). You will need to register separately on both of those Wikipedias if you want to edit them, and you can save the articles there. You can then link the articles together by using interlanguage links; you might want to read that linked page before or after you create the non-English article. Hope that helps! (By the way, I think @ isn't accepted as a character in new usernames, so you might have to use a different username on the other projects.) --ais523 12:16, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
Great, thanks, I was afraid the the opening of an Arabic or Dutch account was what I needed to do, but had not found a mention of the Wikipedia:Interlanguage links. So many thanks for your help! (I'll see what happens with the usernames, it may be appropriate to get an arabic and dutch one sanyway.. — x@x talk12:16, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Wikipedia:Translation/Qasr al-Hosn, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Request asks for translation from arabic to english, but desire is exactly other way around

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet very basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on [[Talk:Wikipedia:Translation/Qasr al-Hosn|the article's talk page]] explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. x@x 08:45, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just a query..

Hi X@x. I have done only two edits to the article and both times the only thing I did was remove your signing, which I did because it's preferrable not to sign with your user name on article pages. I have made no other edits to your article as you can see in the page's history [1] [2]. - TexMurphy 13:29, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • No problems at all. I don't think it was a bot though, it might have been an edit conflict. It's unfortunate, but it happens. I found your article because it showed up on Special:Newpages when created, and I often check there. I tagged it for deletion the first time since it was basically empty. The new version automatically showed up on my watchlist since it has the same name. Anyway, good luck on the article :) - TexMurphy 14:22, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
