My name is Xander Veldhuijzen. I am an archaeologist / archaeometallurgist, and am specialised in some of the earliest known evidence of iron smelting (smelting ore to a bloom), primary smithing (consolidation of bloom), and secondary smithing (forging of billet or bar to artefacts) in the world, e.g. Tell Hammeh, Jordan (see also my website) (930 Cal BC smelting and some primary smithing) and Tel Beth-Shemesh, Israel (900 Cal BC secondary smithing).
I am a Research Fellow at the Institute of Archaeology, UCL.
I also work as an archaeological consultant for several projects, both metallurgical and non-metallurgical, e.g. the Qasr al-Hosn project in Abu Dhabi.
