Meh, most of these pages are virtually unused. If there is a discussion, then sure, but I'm mostly using these talk pages for personal reasons. Guidelines are the community consensus, which is how Wikipedia functions, and can be enforced. You can use pages or sandboxes in your Userspace like User:Wundzer/Tate's thesis if you want to keep personal notes. Please don't use article talk pages for personal reasons.

Let me paraphrase your argument: "You should do this because I need to micromanage people to strictly follow rules on pages which receive virtually no attention from other editors on wikipedia. Moreover, let me threaten you to try and coerce you to follow the rules. Thanks for your contributions though. I am not threatening you and I am not saying that I will enforce the guidelines myself. I am informing you that the community standards are the expectations from the community and can be enforced by others.

As its name suggestions, the html blockquote command is for blockquotes; please do not use it for displayed equations. Per MOS:FORMULA, to display an equation that's formatted in LaTeX, you can either indent the formula with a colon, or use <math display = "block"> ... </math>. @JayBeeEll: Please make the changes instead of reverting the entire edit - there was a lot more changed to the article than some small pedantic point about formatting. Moreover, the visual editor does not have an interface for using these kinds of latex lines, so I use blockquotes instead. This seems like old/outdated advice. I did start making the corrections, and then I noticed that you deleted the numbering on an equation that is referred to later in the article, thereby seriously breaking something and rendering part of the article incomprehensible. Please self-revert until such time as you are willing to fix this issue! (I also explained this in my edit summary!) --JBL (talk) 01:50, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

@JayBeeEll: This was a minor mistake, unfortunately wikipedia doesn't give me an error message right after deleting that line. If you see something like this, please do the quick one-line fix and send me a message instead. The decision was

1. Correct a minor one-line mistake

2. Send me a message to correct this issue

3. Revert an edit with a number of content additions and structural changes improving the article (except for the portion at the end using the ref)

In my view the first two options are much better, since there is no chance of losing the new material while also fixing the (accidental) bug. Wundzer (talk) 02:24, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
