Thanks

for this edit:-) It was an error on my part. WBGconverse 10:48, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

@Winged Blades of Godric: No big deal, this is a wiki after all. Though in the future it may be useful to test changes in the sandbox and testcase subpages to make sure everything works as intended. By the way, is the template's use by the curation tool documented anywhere other than the template docs? It took me a good while to find it once I noticed the problem. Wugapodes [thɑk] [ˈkan.ˌʧɹɪbz] 22:37, 21 December 2018 (UTC)
I located them (and, probably after a lot many years) while sifting through the Page-Triage-Code over Gerrit; so as to add some new functions and allied stuff:-) It's documented precisely nowhere and for a long long span of time, improvement of those messages and/or customization was asked a bug-fix from the developers!!
See this thread and this .
On a side-note, I typically test the changes at test-wiki but the addition of braces were a weird stuff/typo:( WBGconverse 10:50, 22 December 2018 (UTC)

WugBot

Wugapodes, can you please take a quick look at WugBot and make sure it's working properly? There were a bunch of nominations that were hand-moved from Nominations to Approved and hand-deleted from Approved earlier today, which could indicate some problems, but maybe not. Many thanks, and I hope you're having a very happy holiday season. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:27, 25 December 2018 (UTC)

@BlueMoonset: I'll take a look. I was just thinking the other day it's been a while since the bot has had problems, clearly I jinxed it. Happy holidays to you as well! Wugapodes [thɑk] [ˈkan.ˌʧɹɪbz] 18:36, 25 December 2018 (UTC)
@BlueMoonset: Fixed it. Turns out there was some change to password requirements for bots that was causing login problems. Thanks as always for the quick heads up! Wugapodes [thɑk] [ˈkan.ˌʧɹɪbz] 20:28, 25 December 2018 (UTC)
Wugapodes, thanks for fixing the DYK side of things. However, the GAN reports page hasn't run since you made your fix on 25 December, so I think there's now some work to be done there. Thanks again! BlueMoonset (talk) 05:22, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
It's the same issue, I forgot that they have different config files when I made the first change. It should be fixed now. Wugapodes [thɑk] [ˈkan.ˌʧɹɪbz] 05:31, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

Thanks again for fixing the above, Wugapodes. There is an odd error in today's GAN report that I wanted to bring to your attention, since it may be more widespread than I can tell. Ambassis macleayi was the oldest outstanding open GA review at 223 days on the Reports page yesterday, and the review was closed as successful at 13:56 on 29 December (the GA nominee template was replaced with a GA template, and the nomination was dropped from the main GAN page. However, with the new report, generated at 01:04 on 30 December, it's still showing up, now 224 days old. It shouldn't be there, so the obvious question is why it's still there, and what else might still be there that should be. Can you please take a look and see what's causing its retention? Thank you. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:56, 30 December 2018 (UTC)

That is weird. My best guess is that it might be some kind of cache issue. I tested the bot to see if it would happen again (see test page), and it's not listed so when the bot runs next I don't expect it to be there. I'll keep an eye on it to be sure, but I think maybe the bot just got served an out of date version of the nomination page. Wugapodes [thɑk] [ˈkan.ˌʧɹɪbz] 21:11, 30 December 2018 (UTC)

Welcome to the 2019 WikiCup!

Hello and Happy New Year!

Welcome to the 2019 WikiCup, the competition begins today. If you have already joined, your submission page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and we will set up your submissions page. One important rule to remember is that only content on which you have completed significant work during 2019, and which you have nominated this year, is eligible for points in the competition, the judges will be checking! Any questions should be directed to one of the judges, or left on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will make it to round 2. Good luck! The judges for the WikiCup are Sturmvogel 66 (talk · contribs · email), Godot13 (talk · contribs · email), Vanamonde93 (talk · contribs · email) and Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email). Event coordinator granted

After reviewing your request for the "eventcoordinator" permission, I have temporarily enabled the flag on your account until 2019-01-08. Keep in mind these things:

  • The event coordinator right removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24-hour period.
  • The event coordinator right allows you to temporarily add the "confirmed" permission to newly created accounts. You should not grant this for more than 10 days.
  • The event coordinator right is not a status symbol. If it remains unused, it is likely to be removed. Abuse of the event coordinator right will result in its removal by an administrator.
  • Please note, if you were previously a member of the "account creator" group, your flag may have been converted to this new group.

If you no longer require the right, let me know, or ask any other administrator. Drop a note on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of the event coordinator right. Happy editing! Galobtter (pingó mió) 08:34, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi. I'm DannyS712 (talk), and I just wanted to remind you that you have signed up to compete in this year's WikiCup! There are about 2 weeks left before the first round ends – if you haven't yet made your first submission, there is still time to start; if you have already started, keep up the good work. Remote edit-a-thon

I've made some edits to the French Wikipedia, but they don't seem to be captured in the activity data. It would be ironic if the editathon for the International Year of Indigenous Languages was concerned only with the English Wikipedia.--Brett (talk) 11:54, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

Hi Brett thanks for bringing this up. It seems to be a limitation of the software that it only tracks contributions across one project (I made a post on Meta to ask about changing this). For the moment I think the best workaround would be to create remote edit-a-thons for projects as users become interested in them. That way it's counted towards the total IYIL Campaign total. I don't speak French, though my officemate does, so I've asked her to translate a blurb that I can put as the description for a FrWiki remote edit-a-thon. Hopefully this will be up soon, and if you want to help with this or any other language's campaign, let me know! Merci. Wugapodes [thɑk] [ˈkan.ˌʧɹɪbz] 19:04, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
It's a little more than one project. It also captured the wikidata item that was produced when I linked the two language versions. So it captures some evidence. I do hope they're able to change it to be totally cross project.--Brett (talk) 19:30, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
@Brett: It's interesting that wikidata is counted; I noticed edits there have also been showing up in my watchlist recently so maybe there's some back-end stuff at play. Anyway, with some help I set up a remote edit-a-thon for the French Wikipedia that you can sign up for to track your changes and tell other Francophones about. If there are other language projects you want to improve, let me know and I'll see about getting them set up. Wugapodes [thɑk] [ˈkan.ˌʧɹɪbz] 21:54, 13 February 2019 (UTC)
Oh, well I guess that's a good thing. I'm not actually a Francophone, and probably won't do any more French articles. I just thought it was a way I could step a little out of my Anglo-centric comfort zone. I hope people do sign up for it though. Sorry if I put you to a bunch of extra trouble!--Brett (talk) 00:32, 14 February 2019 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.17

Hello Wugapodes,

News
Discussions of interest
  • Two elements of CSD G6 have been split into their own criteria: R4 for redirects in the "File:" namespace with the same name as a file or redirect at Wikimedia Commons (Discussion), and G14 for disambiguation pages which disambiguate zero pages, or have "(disambiguation)" in the title but disambiguate a single page (Discussion).
  • {{db-blankdraft}} was merged into G13 (Discussion)
  • A discussion recently closed with no consensus on whether to create a subject-specific notability guideline for theatrical plays.
  • There is an ongoing discussion on a proposal to create subject-specific notability guidelines for chemicals and organism taxa.
Reminders
  • NPR is not a binary keep / delete process. In many cases a redirect may be appropriate. The deletion policy and its associated guideline clearly emphasise that not all unsuitable articles must be deleted. Redirects are not contentious. See a classic example of the templates to use. More templates are listed at the R template index. Reviewers who are not aware, do please take this into consideration before PROD, CSD, and especially AfD because not even all admins are aware of such policies, and many NAC do not have a full knowledge of them.
NPP Tools Report
  • Superlinks – allows you to check an article's history, logs, talk page, NPP flowchart (on unpatrolled pages) and more without navigating away from the article itself.
  • copyvio-check – automatically checks the copyvio percentage of new pages in the background and displays this info with a link to the report in the 'info' panel of the Page curation toolbar.
  • The NPP flowchart now has clickable hyperlinks.

WugBot appears to be down

Wugapodes, WugBot's most recent edits were at 21:00, 18 March, a bit over 17 hours ago. This means it hasn't been doing the usual moves and clean-up on the DYK nominations and approved nominations pages, and also didn't do the GAN report page overnight.

I know that Shubinator had to move his bots this week because one of the Toolforge servers is being decommissioned; I have no idea whether this is related to that or not. Looking forward to seeing your bot back in service. Thanks as always for the great work you do. BlueMoonset (talk) 14:42, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

I'll look into it right now. I tried to migrate to the new server and clearly something went wrong. Wugapodes [thɑk] [ˈkan.ˌʧɹɪbz] 15:57, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
I have no clue how I fixed it but it looks to be running? The DYK process managed to run on its own right before I did a manual run and a manual run of the GAN report was able to write to the page. I didn't do anything, so I'm going to wait a couple hours and see if things somehow fixed themselves. Wugapodes [thɑk] [ˈkan.ˌʧɹɪbz] 16:21, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
