[edit]Hi Worm!
Thanks for suggesting that I look at this page.
"Maturity" is not the main reason why editors oppose minors from becoming administrators:
- The legal liability of Wikipedia for providing adolescent administrators with access to illegal files and material.
- The well-being of adolescents and even younger children.
- Last and least, the possible damage caused by misbehavior of adolescent administrators (or their friends using their account).
Maturity concerns only the third issue. (The second issue raises the issue of "paternalism", which of course can be most offensive when applied to mature and older adolescents, I admit.)
The topic of maturity is excellent for an essay, and I am glad that you are working on this. Have you written a critique, perhaps informal, of the existing essay you link in "See also"?

P.S. There are two user essays also worth linking:
- Thanks Kiefer. As I'm sure you can see, this is very much a work in progress and no where near complete - I really don't want it to be about RfA or adminship, but about the encyclopedia as a whole. Unfortunately, after reading the very good essays I'd linked to (along with the fetchcomms and NYBs), I stalled, trying to work out what I wanted my point to be. I think it's mostly that maturity is an arbitrary concept that's different for everyone and shouldn't be used against editors - unless we can define what immaturity is. But as I said, it still needs work. I'm sure I'll get there in the end, but unlike my other essay, I doubt it's going to just be an overnight job. Thanks for the suggestions though. Unclear sentence
[edit]If an editor does admin acting immature
. I am a bit confused by this sentence. Feel free to rephrase it. If you even remember its meaning in this 10 year old essay :) –Novem Linguae (talk) 15:24, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Novem Linguae Haven't read it in a decade, but I think this what I meant WormTT(talk) 15:28, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
