User talk:WormTT/Adopt/Rcsprinter123
Hello Hello Hello! Welcome to our chat page. Remember, this page is on wikipedia, so it is visible to all, but it's not obvious to all, so it does give us an element of privacy.
Firstly, a little about me. I'm in the UK, online during UK office hours. I have email enabled, feel free to use it. If I don't know the answer, I will tell you - if I think you are doing something wrong, I will tell you. You currently have a full supply of AGF from me, and it takes a lot to break through my AGF. (One user has managed it so far... I can tell you about him some time if you like)
I'll set up some titles below, which will help us move forward.
Questions from Worm to Rcsprinter123
[edit]Ok. I've got a few questions to start out with.
1) Why do you edit Wikipedia, what do you like about it?
I edit it because it's fun, and it's time consuming (and slightly addictive). I am the computer person round where I live, so I thought I'd give it a go. And I don't regret it!
- That's a suprisingly good answer :) I think you'll find that the vast majority of people are quite similar, though they are unlikely to admit it.
2) What is your ultimate goal on Wikipedia? Do you have one?
My goal is to document bus routes everywhere in the country, and am working to complete Template:Bus routes in England. I also, in time, want to create a transport bot to update those sort of pages. And also, to become an admin, once I have learnt everything and been on here a few years.
- I see you've done some good work on the buses, I'm sure we can take that forward. How computery are you? I work in programming and can't really be bothered with bot-writing. What would you want the bot to do? As for admin, maybe one day, having declared yourself as a younger editor, you'll have difficulty - but I'll keep that in mind.
3) What areas of Wikipedia do you think are your strongest?
Making lists.
- Interesting. I'll keep that in mind going forward. I'm rubbish at lists, but there's a few I'd want to make, so perhaps we could collaborate on them.
4) What areas of Wikipedia are your weakest?
(Now) Good Article reviewing.
- Well, yes - I'm glad you've accepted that. Good Article reviews scare the bejesus out of me, so I'm not surprised you fell down on them. There's a lot of criteria to check to make sure it meets and if you don't check them all AND prove you've checked them all it can go badly.
5) Any ideas what you'd like to get out of mentoring?
Being a better editor.
- I'm sure we can do that.
RCSprinter123 is taking a short wikibreak and will be back on Wikipedia Tuesday the 3rd of May. |
Questions from Rcsprinter123 to Worm
[edit]1) Will you be looking through contributions I make and be commenting/undoing ones you don't like? RcsprinterGimme a message 09:35, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
- In general I do look through the contributions of my mentees, yes. About once a week, and I'll have your talk page on my radar. I'd be unlikely to undo anything though, unless it's a big problem. I might well come to you to discuss any edits where I feel you could have made a better judgement, but it will be a discussion - I might be wrong... it does happen! By the way, I'm now adding the first test to the lesson, feel free to answer the questions whenever you like :) WormTT · (talk) 09:39, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
- Oh and in general, I don't really care about what you've done in the past - I'm not going to berate you about past mistakes, though if I see an area to work on, we'll work on it extra hard... WormTT · (talk) 09:40, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for those answers.

2) As you're mainly on during office hours, does that mean you edit from work or something? RcsprinterGimme a message 09:54, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
- Indeed I do. I work on websites, but it's a terribly boring thing to do, so I edit wikipedia at the same time. Work comes first though, so if I go quiet it's because I'm in a meeting or have a big project on.
3) When I finish the final test, will you still be my mentor?
- I'd say that very much depends on how you do and what we decide. Basically, if you don't pass your test or are borderline, I'd recommend further mentorring. However, even if you do pass the test, we can carry on the mentoring process. Either way, we haven't actually discussed what got you into this mess, so we'll have a chat about that, but since you've avoided GAs I haven't seen the same sort of problems.
- Even if you do move on, I'll still be around for questions/chats/discussions. WormTT · (talk) 12:52, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
- OK then. What is borderline?
- 75%... you'll have to do the test to find out what 75% is ;) WormTT · (talk) 13:15, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
- OK then. What is borderline?
