Convex Function

[edit]

I put back "in" instead of ε at convex function. The general Wikipedia style is to avoid symbolic notation unless necessary, and use words if that suffices. Hope that's fine with you. You can reply here if you have comments. Thanks. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 03:28, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Metric space aimed at its subspace

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Metric space aimed at its subspace, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of the page. Captain panda 02:35, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As I said in the tag on the article, Wikipedia is not the place for random listings of numbers. If there is going to be an article, explain the numbers rather than simply listing them. Make an article about the numbers, equations, etc if you think that it should be kept. In its current format, the article should not be on Wikipedia. Captain panda 23:03, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, the reason that I did not respond sooner is that I was not on my computer at the time. Sorry, that you had to wait for a response. Captain panda 23:05, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry, but I do not see how I am interfering. I simply nominated it for proposed deletion. Whether the article is deleted or not is not decided by me at this point as I am not an administator. The purpose of Wikipedia is not to guide someone throughout all the intricacies of mathematics as policy found here indicates. I hope this explains why I think that it should be deleted. Interwiki on personal page

[edit]

Hi, Wlod, nice to meet hou here.

I see you inform readers of your nickname here and pl-wiki — so I think you might want to add interlanguage links on both your peronal pages: [[en:User:Wlod]] on pl-wiki, and [[pl:User:Wlod]] here. --CiaPan 13:53, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your remarks

[edit]

I am not aware of your training as a mathematician, but the kind of needless insulting remarks you made about the administrator Arthur Rubin and myself are quite uncalled for. What you wrote on the talk page of prime number seems to be your own point of view and seems to have little to do with standard usage in the mathematical profession. Why not contribute to the wikipedia with some real contributions to mathematics articles rather than pedantic quibbles? Mathsci 21:46, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please try to avoid (a) self-promotion on the WP; (b) making personal allegations of harrassment in WP edit summaries. You should be aware that most practising mathematicians avoid discussing or advertising their own personal research or writings in WP articles. Often their friends, colleagues or other researchers in the area will add these details, if they merit inclusion in an encyclopedia. You should therefore not be surprised to receive criticism if you have created articles about your own research. There are issues of WP:COI, WP:OR and WP:OWN involved here. --Mathsci 11:30, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Please stop treating the Talk:Prime number page as a forum and writing your comments wherever you see fit. Please post your comments on a mathematics forum if you have nothing to discuss relevant to edits of the main article.

Mathsci (talk) 21:12, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your comment on Talk:Ed Trice was inappropriate, upset Ed Trice's feelings, and contributed nothing to the Wikipedia. Please keep in mind people have feelings when posting on talk pages. Thank you. Just to clarify (talk) 17:01, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair division

[edit]

You are right that differing values means the people can possible get more of what they want, but it doesn't make the problem of fair division easier. Fair division is hard because their values differ. Perhaps another go at it? Dmcq (talk) 12:31, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dingo and square-kilometres in diameter

[edit]

Results show urban dingoes to have comparably small home range sizes (mean 2.17km2 TAP or 4.14km2 MCP) and exhibit crepuscular activity patterns and flexible habitat use. (....) However, at all times, all urban dingoes were within 700m of residential homes, were often within 200m of homes, and were regularly in extremely close proximity to homes. One 27kg urban dingo even had a core area in a small patch of bushland at the bottom of popular primary school in the heart of a large town. (....)

--CiaPan (talk) 10:45, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The original publicity stunt was an advert. The article is an article about an advert. It's had media coverage, it's notable, so we write about it. Wikipedia isn't saying that people should believe it's true, and we're certainly not saying people should buy their holidays from this or that place. If you think the article can be made clearer, then help, but please don't disrupt. Also, you might be able to make pl:Blue_Monday clearer; Google translate implies that it's still reporting the thing as being fact. Pseudomonas(talk) 10:28, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Furthermore, look at Category:Advertising_campaigns for such articles as Atheist Bus Campaign, a notable campaign that is described without Wikipedia taking any view on the existence or otherwise of a God :) Pseudomonas(talk) 13:34, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited List of Polish people, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Violinist (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Jan Jaworowski

[edit]

Can you add any references for the article (Jan Jaworowski)? Bibliographical references of some books written by him (or references to works based on his achievments), that will prove his works were important (Wikipedia:Notability (people), Wikipedia:Notability (academics))?

You know Wikipedia in general accepts only information which is verifiable (Wikipedia:Verifiability), that is supported by some referenced, publicly available, reliable sources (Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources). One's personal knowledge is not suficient here (Wikipedia:No original research). Please make some effort to fit Wikipedia's rules. I appreciate your input, but if it doesn't meet standards it may get deleted. --CiaPan (talk) 06:53, 7 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

--CiaPan (talk) 10:09, 7 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Čech homology

To tematy Tobie bliskie, więc zapewne będziesz wiedział: czy wyrażenie 'Čech homology' w pierwszym akapicie Shape theory (mathematics) powinno wiązać do hasła Čech cohomology? --CiaPan (talk) 08:31, 7 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Borsuk's conjecture and Perkal's work

[edit]

Hi. Wlod,

is this edit in 'Borsuk's conjecture' from 3 January 2013 yours?

If so, could you, please, verify once again the journal/year/volume?

I intended to add an URL to an online version of the Perkal's paper, but couldn't find any. I did not even manage to find the title in Colloquium Mathematicum archives at IMPAN pages (https://www.impan.pl/..../colloquium-mathematicum/all).

Wszystkiego najlepszego. --CiaPan (talk) 10:40, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Answer here, if you wish – I'm watching your talk page. :)

Discretionary Sanctions Notice re: Trump-Ukraine scandal

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in post-1932 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Please note that I also reverted your edit to the lead in the article, as it went against the current consensus to clearly refer to the issue as a scandal. OhKayeSierra (talk) 08:15, 21 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I forgot to add that the aforementioned discussion can be found at Talk:Trump–Ukraine scandal/Archive 3#Requested move 17 October 2019. OhKayeSierra (talk) 08:17, 21 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
