Ohio counties

Look at Allen County, Ohio: although we had confusion over the naming (whether Ethan Allen or John Allen (soldier)), a user has provided definitive proof: the Ohio legislature passed a resolution in 1976 stating that it's named for John. When you get back from your semi-wikibreak, would you please work this into the county etymologies and county list pages? Nyttend 03:45, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Question: I decided to do a few minutes of recent changes patrolling and saw the creation of Miwolve1. I looked at it, saw that it was worthless, deleted it, and then placed a uw-create1 on the author's talk page. Is this proper procedure? Or do I have to warn the author first? Or do I have to have someone else delete it? Nyttend 14:51, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Reliable source?

Hey Wizardman - I value your opinion and would like you to comment on this question if you have a moment: Wikipedia_talk:Reliable_sources#Wikinews_Interviews_as_Reliable_Sources --David Shankbone 21:07, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. You may submit multiple lists for consideration.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 17:30, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Re:admin

Thanks for leaving the nice note on my talk page, especially considering the beating it's been taking lately.

I have thought about throwing my hat into the adminship ring, but unfortunately I don't have much article writing experience. Ninety-nine percent of what I do is vandalism reversion and warning miscreants. I fear that I would get torn to pieces if I ever showed up on WP:RFA!

However, if I do change my mind, I will drop you a note to see if you are still interested in nominating me. Regards ... discospinster talk 22:22, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

ArbCom questions

Hi. I'm Ral315, editor of the Wikipedia Signpost. We're interviewing all ArbCom candidates for an article next week, and your response is requested.

  1. What positions do you hold (adminship, arbitration, mediation, etc.)?
  2. Why are you running for the Arbitration Committee?
  3. Have you been involved in any arbitration cases? In what capacity?
  4. In the past year, are there any cases that you think the Arbitration Committee handled exceptionally well? Any you think they handled poorly?
  5. Why do you think users should vote for you?

Please respond on my talk page. We'll probably go to press late Monday or early Tuesday (UTC), but late responses will be added as they're submitted. Thanks, Ral315 » 04:48, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

An Arbitration case in which you commented has been opened, and is located here. Please add any evidence you may wish the Arbitrators to consider to the evidence sub-page, Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Episodes and characters/Evidence. Please submit your evidence within one week, if possible. You may also contribute to the case on the workshop sub-page, Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Episodes and characters/Workshop.

On behalf of the Arbitration Committee, Picaroon (t) 21:05, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Wondering if an article is a B-class or a Start Class

Hi, Wizardman. I am wondering what the main difference is between start-class and B-class articles, like on Norma Elizabeth Boyd. I assessed this as start at first, but am thinking that this is a B article. I generally work with sorority related articles, and not the Wikiproject Biography, and I don't know the recent standards. Your independent assessment is helpful. Thanks. Miranda 14:00, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Another request, can you please review Ethel Hedgeman Lyle for B-class? It's currently at start. Thanks. Miranda 00:28, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Spiffier triple crown, new awards available

The standard triple crown.

Hi, I've been sprucing up the triple crown awards. Here's the new version of the standard triple crown you've already earned. Feel free to replace your old one with this if you like the new version better. I've also introduced two new triple crown awards for editors who've done a lot of triple crown work: the Napoleonic and Alexander the Great edition awards. If you're active in a WikiProject, check out the new offer for custom WikiProject triple crowns. I'll make those upon request if five or more editors qualify. See User:Durova/Triple crown winner's circle for more information. Thanks for your hard work, and cheers! DurovaCharge! 22:00, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Hello! As we did for last year's election, we are again compiling a Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee Elections December 2007/Summary table. This table contains a column "Portfolio" for links that display candidates' pertinent skills. I will be going through each candidate's statements and gradually populate the column, but this may take some time. Please feel free to add some links in the form [link|c] if you feel it shows conflict resolution skills, or [link|o] otherwise. It would also be helpful if you can check if the information about you is correct.

My motivation is that as a voter, I don't want to just rely on a candidate's words, but also see their actions. Moreover, I believe a portfolio of "model cases" to remember in difficult situations can be useful for each candidate, as well. I believe that conflict resolution skills are most pertinent to the position, but if you want to highlight other skills, please feel free to use a new letter and add it to Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee Elections December 2007/Summary table#Columns of this table. — Sebastian 05:41, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Alright, I'll look it over and see if I can add anything. Wizardman 00:27, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Thank you, I liked what I saw! — Sebastian 01:52, 5 December 2007 (UTC)    (I may not be watching this page anymore. If you would like to continue the conversation, please do so here and let me know.)

Hi Wizardman. Thanks for adding the reference to Ryan Leaf's entry on NFL quarterbacks who have posted a passer rating of zero. I never doubted that such a game occurred, but this article was quite a mess with almost all entries unsourced and commentary running wild. Sorry if I was a bit abrupt in my edit summary. Thanks again, Chaz Beckett 20:42, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Dear Wizardman, I worked with admin Swatjester on fixing that whole Witch Hunt section a while back with my old alternate account to get that section into a mutually acceptable manner:

Mycroft.Holmes, however, is still doing his blanket deletions of anything he does not like regardless of discussions on the talk page or efforts to improve and reference the material. He has done this on and off for months on that article and has been blocked twice for violating the three revert rule. Anyway, I would like to convert some of the items listed under references into inline endnoted citations, but I wanted to touch base with you first to make sure that it wouldn't seem like revert warring.
