Clemson University Football

Hi,

There is a mistake on the Clemson Football page. They were not named co-champions of the ACC Atlantic Division in 2012. This was a title Clemson University gave to itself, but one that the ACC does not recognize. I would please ask that this be changed as it is an insult to the Florida State University Seminole's program that actually did solely win the ACC Atlantic Division, and then went on to win the conference.

Thank you, Taylor — Preceding unsigned comment added by FSUNoles27TS (talkcontribs) 16:23, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi Taylor... I really don't have any knowledge about Clemson or FSU or ACC football, so I'll leave the discussion on the championship to others. When I reverted an edit on the Clemson Tigers football page yesterday, it was more to remove personal and inconsiderate comments ("you nutjob", etc) that were included in the edits. I don't know if that was you that put those in or another user, but they were inappropriate, to say the least.
Disagreements on content happen all the time on Wikipedia and the project won't work unless there is discussion and collaboration on articles. A much more appropriate way to suggest the change would have been on the article's talk page. There, without calling names, etc, various points of view could have been stated and consensus reached. Hopefully, you will be able to discuss the matter with others on the talk page. cheers! Wikipelli Talk 14:51, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

Disruptive editing

Why don't you answer the question that I posed? Your "knowledgeable" editors claim to want quality content—you even have the nerve to solicit donations—but are evidently unable to distinguish technically correct content from weakly argued quasi-nonsense. Further—as I noted the other day—opinions that differ from those of your deep-pocketed sponsors are speedily deleted. Case in point: the Cloud computing article. My list of disadvantages disappeared lickety-split. Who ever heard of a technology (I should say, a technological approach) that offers advantages only, but zero disadvantages? Any reader who bothers to think about the content will immediately pick up on Wikimedia Foundation's strong bias. 50.128.184.140 (talk) 14:32, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

I think you need to learn more about Wikipedia, how it is written, and the guidelines for contributions. You obviously have an interest and knowledge in certain subjects, and I'm sure you could be a good contributor, but you don't grasp the essence of verifiability, Point of View, etc. You seem more inclined to be upset and rant than to learn. If that changes, this link might be a good place to start: Tutorial (I'd pay particular attention to 'Citing sources'). You might also benefit from this page. If you're interested in help more than arguing, feel free to let me know and I'll provide whatever guidance I can. Wikipelli Talk 20:04, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

Temporarily Deleting Optelian Wikipedia Page

I have been requested by the President of Optelian, Mike Perry, to temporarily remove the Wikipedia entry for Optelian. While I work for Optelian and have permission to post the material, the president would like to review the material before it is posted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GregQuirk (talkcontribs) 21:06, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi... there are a couple of problems with this. One is that, if you work for Optelian, then you potentially have a conflict of interest with the subject that will make it difficult for you to edit the page impartially (without bias). Wikipedia articles must be neutral and a relationship with the subject is discouraged.
Second, removing the content of the article suggests or implies ownership. In the couple of weeks that the article has been on Wikipedia, several other editors have contributed to the article. Though you might have initiated the article, you really don't have ownership and certainly cannot remove it for review by another person associated with the article.
I strongly suggest that you leave the article as it is and edit as you see fit - keeping in mind that your relationship with the subject makes edits suspects. If you or the company president discover factual errors that can be verified through reliable third-party sources that you can cite, you can make the changes at that time and under those stipulations. Wikipelli Talk 21:12, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
I also encourage you to use the article's talk page to a) disclose your relationship to the subject of the article, and b) to propose changes for discussion and collaboration with other interested editors. Wikipelli Talk 21:14, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but you cannot include information that is not verified. If you wish to include that they show something "..a billion times.. ", you must include a reliable source for that information. Wikipelli Talk 16:19, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
"A billion times" is an exaggeration, I agree with you. Then is it fine if I do the same edit, but without the "a billion times" line? Because, the current version after your edit is false. I know that because I watch it frequently, and I just want to help the site by adding true information about Star Sports. Luluvit (talk) 16:26, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
Again, personal opinion or even personal observation is not acceptable (generally) in Wikipedia. I would strongly urge you to look for newspaper articles about the channel or the company. See if you can located something that indicates that there is public dissatisfaction reported. That would be perfect to add to the article. Remember, though, that the source must be reliable and independent. I sympathize with your point of view, but try to understand that you are one person and that is not enough to add to the article. If the channel is not doing what the consumer wishes, you should be able to find information to substantiate your claims. Wikipelli Talk 16:29, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
It will be hard to find sources, but I will look for it. And, yes, I am one person but get back to the page and you will see that many other editors also edited the article in the same fashion. So, a lot of people do agree with my view. Luluvit (talk) 16:39, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
Anyway, I will not add anything there till I find a source. But, can you remove the 'last warning or else you will be blocked from editing' from my talk page? I never meant to do anything that will harm the site, so I do not think it should be there. Luluvit (talk) 16:41, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
I don't dispute that there may be many others that share the view. That is why I am hopeful that you will be able to find citations that you can include to verify the information that you wish to add. It is also very possible (even likely) that others have added unverified information. We do the best we can to monitor but there are simply too many editors and pages to keep up with. I was drawn to your edits today because you are a relatively new editor and I read your edits as you made them. I believe that you are trying to edit in good faith to improve the article. I am going to remove your 'final warning' from your talk page. Good luck! If I can help, please let me know. Wikipelli Talk 16:44, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

The sentence I edited stated, "Two days after killing Wallin, Chase purchased two puppies from a neighbor.".

This sentence seems to have been submit by another user as a joke. It is completely irrelevant to anything else in the article, has no source, and is ENTIRELY "unconstructive" (the excuse used to undo my edit).

I understand anyone can edit a Wikipedia page, but your deletion of my work is destructive, unreasonable, arbitrary, and unjustified. It is an abuse of your privilege. Shame on you. Reading messages other people have left you. It looks like you have abused your privilege repeatedly and deleted other people's content as well. That makes you a serial offender. I wonder why people like you could be given a PhD, as you have the judgement of a 2nd grader at best, if not a kindergartener. Of course there is also the possibility that you may have faked your PhD degree in your resume. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.232.204.111 (talk) 22:13, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

Good morning. Thank you for your message, though I think before you engage another editor on Wikipedia, you would do well to read this. I believe that the note on your talk page was not accusatory in the least and suggested that if you had a question, I encouraged you to ask. I don't see any questions above, only a rant. Not very productive.
All that aside, I am glad for the opportunity to explain my rationale for reverting your changes. If I erred at all, it was not being more specific about why I did this.
The changes you made were nearly all based upon what I have to assume is your personal opinion about the symbolism in the film. Though you wrote it well, you suggest that "Most movie reviewers and critics appear to miss the symbolisms and thus the true meaning of this film." Inasmuch as this is not cited at all by any reliable source, I have to assume that you alone have made that determination. Accurate or not, it is inappropriate to include your beliefs in an encyclopedia article.
Your additions go on to describe such things as, "Most movie reviewers and critics appear to miss the symbolisms and thus the true meaning of this film.", "the five towers also symbolizes the incredible building boom in Shanghai", and, "The 5 buildings of the Hollywood Plaza looks like 5 fingers, and is symbolic of the 5 fingered mountain in the well known Chinese novel "Journey to the West.". Again, these may or may not have been intended by those involved in the film, but the additions as you've made them represent only your opinion. Others might disagree with your evaluation.
If these points are made in a source that you can cite, they would be acceptable in the article. Something to the effect of a reviewer writing, "Many viewers of the film note the apparent symbolism of... " or "The writer has stated that the purpose of the 5 buildings is to represent... ", etc.
I hope you find this helpful and you understand now why I removed the addition. I do apologize for not being more clear with my explanation. If you have any other questions, I'll be pleased to answer them. Wikipelli Talk 16:04, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

Naturalization of intentionality

My suggestion ceertainly was constructive. I suggest deleting the whole paragraph from Crane, which has nothing whatever to do with the naturalization of intentionality, but rather denies the necessity or the adviseabllity of such a thing. (Incidentally, I tried to add a sentence doing what the author fails to do, namely, to say what is meant by the naturalization of intentionality. The article does not at present explain that. Those (like myself and Dretske) who have advocated views that would naturalize intentionality seek to analyze representation in terms that belong to natural science) . Cranes suggestion that there is no analysis and that intnetionality is a primitive undefinable concept is in no way a naturalization of the concept. If it were a primitive concept, representation might belong to some supernatural realm of thought, as opposed to the realm of naturalistic or scientific thought. Furthermore, no argument is cited from Crane that representation is not analyzable, He just says 'Why not accept it as primitive' This is not an argument. But the point is that Crane's remarks are irrelevant to the topic of the article.

I think you're right. I apologize for making that revision. Looking back on it, I see that you deleted the paragraph and left a misspelled word at the end of the remaining paragraph. I think I was too hasty in assuming it was vandalism. I'll change it back and also remove the warning from your talk page. :) Wikipelli Talk 10:40, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Sorry...it was an experiment.

I apologize for adding the juvenile statement to the entry about types of cheese (i.e. "butt cheese"). I was trying to prove to my friend that Wikipedia has more control over the content than he thought (i.e. the trusted editors...at least that's what I think it's called). I wanted to say thanks for proving me right!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mahatmah (talkcontribs) 17:07, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Hello - If I write a comment in talk and I want it to be removed I can do so. These are my comments - I can't vandalize my own comments. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robertwilliams232323 (talkcontribs) 18:35, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

absolutely correct. My apologies. I think I was thrown by the difference between your name (Bob Connolly) and your Signature (RobertWilliams). I should have looked closer. I'll replace your comments and remove my warning. Wikipelli Talk 18:38, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
