Peremptory close of Mount McKinley move

This move was closed by you 62 minutes after it was proposed. I am inclined to contest it. Four editors voted, including one whose sole explanation was "Down with the oppressor". There was clear consensus, in addition I am coming from a neutral point of view. As such, Wikipedia clearly states that discussions are allowed to be closed. This should be non-controversial because it was stated by the president of the United States. That is the official name, thus I do not believe that this should be controversial. If you would like, you could open a move request to go the other direction. However, the move was already carried out by the time I got there. WikIan (talk) 02:09, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

@WikIan: - please read the instructions at WP:RM, particularly as regard to closing. Requested move discussion are expected to go on for at least seven days, and then a consensus established, which should be made by matching arguments to relevant policies. In particular, your argument about the President of the US is clearly not grounded in policy - WP:OFFICIALNAME is very clear on this matter - we go by the common name, as given in reliable sources, not by any "official" name. I don't know at this stage whether it's right or wrong to move to Denali, but I'd ask you to please reopen this move request, and allow it to run its course, otherwise the close will have to be contested at WP:Move review. Amakuru, I see you like to use WP:RM. However, I did not believe this was controversial at all. In addition I did not move the page. When I arrived, the page had been moved, so I closed the discussion. Therefore, by guidelines I should not reopen the discussion and you should contest it by opening a move request of your own. @WikIan: This move was completely improper. A controversial move request is supposed to be open for at least 7 days. Please revert the move and reopen the discussion immediately.   @WikIan: I can't speak for anyone else, but personally I accept your argument that you acted in good faith, and that's fine - I understand what you're saying. However, I don't agree with you that your action was the correct one at that time. Even if another editor has boldly moved the page, the original discussion is generally allowed to continue, as that's the official forum for discussing the move, with the discussion closed according to instructions at WP:RMC, which have been worked out through consensus. And yes, I am an active participant in that space, because I think it's an important process, and when followed properly, it avoids the kind of mess we're seeing at Talk:Denali right now, where people are talking across each other, and nobody's even sure how to proceed. A properly closed RM in which an editor provides a good summary and analyses the responses clearly, is rarely challenged. Events have moved on, so the matter of whether the original RM should be reopened is probably moot now, but I hope you'll avoid making such early closures in future. Outlook.com upgrade

Hello

I have good news. As you anticipated, Outlook.com upgrade is here. My account is upgraded today.

As you expected, there are a lot of Outlook on the web features. As I expected, the name didn't change. It is still Outlook.com. (With ".com".) I also have Tasks but that's part of the Calendar. Well, I guess paid users must feel their payment entitles them to something more! So, I guess a merger is permanently off the table.

I also received a Microsoft Exchange 2016 package. (The on-premises version we talked about.) It haven't been able to set it up yet, owning to its heavy system requirements, but it seems the Outlook Web App in it is now called "Outlook on the web". So, if you want to file a non-controversial technical rename, go ahead. (Even provide a diff to this communication as evidence.)

Hi,

You're right, Outlook.com itself did not change names in the upgrade. However, when you login the web app should say "Outlook Mail" correct? See [1]They way the page was moved today, I'm not sure how we are going to structure this anymore. The MWSS template, which I know was deleted, holds water if we rename the MSA portion to Outlook.com. They both have received the Outlook on the web update however.

I'm also not seeing Tasks as being part of Calendar. Do you see this? Could you post a screenshot of what you are seeing, that way I can better understand what is going on. So Outlook Web app is Outlook on the web, but so is Outlook.com. They are both Outlook on the web. And how should we break down the components? Should we do something like Notes (application) does, having an infobox for both the Outlook.com version and the O365/Exchange version? Should we create new pages? or merge/redirect? I'm assuming you have more experience in situations like these.

Hi again.

About Outlook:

• Your first screenshot is very close but the title bar says "Outlook.com" and the title bar background is black. There is the Skype, Settings and Help buttons, but no bell button. (Maybe that's because I don't have a pending notification?)
• The address bar has this added to its address: "&owa=1&owasuffix=owa%2f".
• If I open the shortcut menu, it says "Mail" instead of "Outlook.com". But I do not see "Outlook Mail" or "Mail" anywhere. It is either "Outlook" (sign-in screen) or "Outlook.com".
• Several features of Outlook for the web are absent. I don't see retention, OAuth or EAS fetch. No MAPI-RPC access either. In general, there has been definite changes and a definite attempt to import features, but they seem to have deliberately kept it a different trademark. A screenshot from my Outlook.com is – I am very sorry to say – a big "No" because too much of my private life is at stake there. (I have heavily customized it.)

About Tasks: A "Tasks" button is added on the shortcut bar, to the right side of OneDrive. The Word Online button has gone to the next line. But the button sends me to: "https://bay01.calendar.live.com/calendar/calendar.aspx?rru=tasks". I can click on Calendar and switch to Tasks view to get the same results. Basically, there is nothing new. Even the title bar does not look like that of Outlook.com and OneDrive. (My OneDrive is also updated.) Maybe I should wait?

In general, you have a lot of freedom and source material to request a rename Outlook Web App to Outlook on the web, update it and if your hunches prove to be right, make it the primary article for Microsoft's email service. In that case, Outlook.com article becomes a historic article and won't change anymore. We have this very same state in cases of Windows Defender and Microsoft Security Essentials, which cannot merge because of their different backgrounds. (Where there is contents, there is room for an article.) The same applies to Opera Mini and Opera Mobile. Also to Macromedia and Adobe.

Hi,

So my main account's OneDrive menu has also been updated to include tasks, and it says Mail. Also "Tasks" point to where your link points. I think they are in the process of updating all accounts and switching it over to O365's infrastructure, and this is a stop-gap measure in the meantime. I know you don't see the new Outlook branding yet, but I assure you it will come as they have removed "Outlook.com" from the menu.

I am glad. This screen photo looks very much like mine. Except I have the color categories feature but the shot does not. Also my title bar does not say "Outlook Mail (Preview)". I'll keep an eye for the mainstream media writing more about this. One of them is bound become our source. It is fortunate this one didn't turn out one of Microsoft's abortive or semi-abortive efforts (although Microsoft still has time). Microsoft has aborted a number of projects recently, including the Android app compatibility layer for Windows 10 Mobile.

On a side note, Microsoft has announced a project to bring Win32 apps to Windows 10 Mobile. If that happens, Windows 10 Mobile officially becomes a version of Windows NT. (I am serious about the "officially" part because one of the requirements is to announce an NT version string to those apps.)

To be fair, the Islandwood Project (iOS Bridge) is still active and it could have been legal or technical reasons that Microsoft couldn't complete Astoria. This is my fault, I removed them because they were causing "citation errors" in the previewer saying they weren't defined. I believed they weren't referenced correctly, as it wasn't immediately clear they were defined in other sections.

If you have a "free" image in mind, then be my guest. The biggest issue here is both the Khan academy app and the Wikipedia app both were developed for Windows 8 as Windows Runtime 8.x apps, thus they are not UWP apps. WikIan -(talk) 08:29, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

Oh, so you know about NFCC? Good. But the crazy part about it is that sometimes it demands people to travel to North Korea in hopes of getting a glimpse of its leader instead of using a non-free image of him. I've got used to it. Still, this case isn't that crazy. The UWP vs. WinRT distinction isn't something that demands a new screenshot. And even if it did, you could have taken a screenshot of a non-free UWP app and a free Windows app, which isn't the case with your shot.

@Codename Lisa: The Khan app was created for the WinRT platform and I believe it was never updated to UWP. Plus, it's being discontinued. The easiest way to tell is by this dropdown at the top and this app menu that replaced the Windows 8 Charms bar in Windows 10. Additionally, this source states that "if Khan Academy had supported Windows 10 via UWP..." WikIan -(talk) 01:54, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

I see. Then I might have been wrong.

Although MSPowerUser's sentence is a bit misleading: UWP apps can target desktop only; or target desktop, Xbox and HoloLens without targeting mobile. If I had more time these days, I'd have skimmed the source code again.

Surface Dial draft

I have noticed that a number of users have been working on the draft page at User:WikIan/Surface Dial, but you have hardly been active on it. To this end, it seems like moving the page to the "Draft:" namespace would be more reasonable. I find it hard to believe you're not familiar with WP:CYCLE. It shouldn't cause any consensus issues anyways due to WP:COMMONNAME and the fact that a similar reference scheme is used in Windows 10 version history

Funny you should say that, over at Commons the user who deleted the file stated they did not want a duplicate here of Fair Use items. In actuality, I believe that this icon is already in the public domain. I am using this icon: File:CarCreditCity.png as a precedent. It is not simply a geometric shape. @Floquenbeam: To be clear, I support absolutely no harassment or vandalism of any kind. I absolutely would never to that to anybody. I was simply pointing out evidence that I am not the sole target or (what some people believe) the perpetrator here. I was simply pointing out others obviously felt this way, and I have followed the guidelines to the best of my knowledge, where some people are acting like WP:OWN is inapplicable and disregard WP:CYCLE.
