"Mysterious" redirect for Nancy Regan

You mentioned that the link to Nancy Regan, which you expected to identify one individual, ended up elsewhere. The problem was that someone made the Nancy Regan page a redirect (presumably assuming it was a typographical error). If you encounter this type of problem in the future you can "fix" it more appropriately by clicking on the "redirected from" link and editing that (making sure, of course, that pages which should link to the destination location link there directly). For now, since it appears nobody has felt it worth adding information about Nancy Regan to Wikipedia, I am sure your edit is fine. RichardJFoster (talk) 20:15, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Sorry... I hadn't checked my messages for far too long! Clearly your initial edit was appropriate... I just wasn't sure (from your initial comment) that you were familiar with the redirect mechanism. Sorry for any trouble. :-) RichardJFoster (talk) 15:09, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Hit me back

I replied on Talk:WTF#Newest_addition_as_of_now_.28.3F.29

Should I tell you this here? Still getting used to this wiki thing, even though I've contributed for what, 18 months?

Thank you for the reply, you did clear up some stuff for me, even dont you don't fully understand it yourself :) Then again, unless there is a written set of rules, anything that a majority of people do has to be considered correct. Oh, and thanks for "showing" me that a colon (":") pushes the line forward one space. I didn't know! Bobber0001 (talk) 18:23, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

engvar

In a recent edit to the page Phish, you changed one or more words from one international variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For subjects exclusively related to Britain (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to other English-speaking countries, such as Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, use the appropriate variety of English used there. If it is an international topic, use the same form of English the original author used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to the other, even if you don't normally use the version the article is written in. Respect other people's versions of English. They in turn should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. If you have any queries about all this, you can ask me on my talk page or you can visit the help desk. Thank you. —  MusicMaker5376 20:22, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Definitely not a problem. Traveled (one l) is American; travelled (two ls) is British. Maneuver is American.... I can't even spell it the British way.... Perhaps you should add those to your list.... —  MusicMaker5376 20:57, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Re Rutsey

Thanks for the heads up, I checked a few of the main Rush sites and couldn't confirm it myself, but your link is the first bit of evidence I've seen. Sigh, feel free to add it to the John Rutsey article. I'm not sure how to introduce into the main Rush article though. I suppose just parenthetical. Wisdom89 (T / C) 16:51, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Queens of the Stone Age Taskforce

I'd like to invite you to join the newly-formed taskforce Queens of the Stone Age|Queens of the Stone Age. There's alot of Queens of the Stone Age-related articles on Wikipedia that could use a little attention, and I hope this taskforce can help organize an effort to improve them. So please, take a look and if you like what you see, help us get this taskforce off the ground and a few Queens of the Stone Age pages into the front ranks of Wikipedia articles. Thanks! --Be Black Hole Sun (talk) 10:55, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi, the sentence:

For the re-founded see, see Bishop of Lindisfarne (modern) (at Bishop of Lindisfarne (Saxon)

is grammatically correct, as the first see in the sentence is a noun describing an Episcopal see, or an ecclesiastical domain of a bishop. -- roleplayer 23:11, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for your message. How about as an alternative raiding a thesaurus for a synonym for the second see? "Go to", for example? -- roleplayer 19:28, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Rush portal

Um... why does the Rush portal need a disambiguator? The only reason to use a disambiguator is to distinguish an article from a identically-named article, and there are no other portals named Rush. Portal:Slipknot isn't located at Portal:Slipknot (band). It's not like there's any technical restrictions; it's easy to link back between the articles. Xnux the Echidna 20:29, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

There's little confusion from the name Portal:Rush, as the articles that link to Portal:Rush make it clear this portal is about the band, not "rushing". Besides, placing a disambiguator everywhere reduces the readability of some articles (for example, we would never have a "List of Rush (band) awards", that's just clunky). I really don't think the moves are that controversial. Xnux the Echidna 20:47, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

April Wine is a musical group. So it's under the scope of Wikiproject biography which deal with individuals and groups of them. Since at least one member of the group is alive the talk page has to be tagged with a banner warning editors to respect the policy on biographies of living persons. This is standard procedure of Wikipedia for living persons. -- Magioladitis (talk) 23:02, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Now I understand what you meant. I resolved the problem with "listas", caused by other editors' falsely semi-automatic edits. -- Magioladitis (talk) 23:04, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Rollback

I have 1 granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Altered Speedy Deletion rationale: In njilly

Hello WikHead, and thanks for your work patrolling new changes. I am just informing you that I have deleted a page you tagged (In njilly) under a criterion different from the one your provided, which was inappropriate or incorrect. CSD criteria are narrow and specific to protect the encyclopedia, and the process is more effective if the correct deletion rationale is supplied. Consider reviewing the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions or problems, please let me know. Thanks again! SoWhy 18:48, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

None taken.  :)

The current list looks fantastic. The one I deleted was totally empty save for the alphabetical headers. Not to worry; I ain't deleting the current version.  :) Thanks very much for letting me know. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 20:43, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

It's rather lucky I had a quick look through the contributions of the recent contributors and found the above conversation with PMDrive! I was just seconds away from speedy deleting List of Christian rock bands under WP:CSD#G4; as the problems the article has are identical to those that got it deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Christian rock bands. It's worth noting that PMDrive1061 quite justifiably deleted a mangled and incomplete version that was created at List of Christian Rock Bands (note the caps), but that the destination page that it got moved had also been deleted twice before - see its deletion log. Do you think you can solve the concerns raised? Primarily, the article still seems to be completely redundant to Category:Christian rock groups. Let me know! Thanks :) ~ mazca talk 21:18, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

OK, thanks for your message. I have deleted it as mentioned; it's a pretty clear candidate for it as it's still completely redundant. Happy editing, here's to finding an article to improve that's not about to get deleted! All the best. ~ mazca talk 22:08, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

PMPT

Jonathanstray is incorrect when he states that the main difference between MPT and PMPT is the shape of the distribution. This is one of two equally important differences; the second being the way risk is measured (downside deviation vs. standard deviation).

In addition, his claim that most of the criticisms that apply to MPT also apply to PMPT is unsupported. If there are specific problems that he is aware of in both domains then he should enumerate them rather than make general, unspecific statements. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Brianmarc (talkcontribs) 00:29, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

I noticed that you attempted to fix the info box on this page a while back. Apparently during the month of November someone completly rewrote the article without any discussion or notice. They delted entire sections and of course changed the info box information as you fixed back. I have restored the edits and placed the article back at the place it was before the November rewrites. I have also noticed the page to move any proposed changes to discussion and seek consensus. I have also placed a notification on the Alabama Project Page. Can you please put this on your watch list and also make a visit to see if there is anything that should be revised in formalities and formatting which might have been jumbled in the restore. If you think this should have been handled differently please feel free to chime in. I do not think the action was vandalism but I do think the editor was seeking to alter the POV.Alabamacross (talk) 22:36, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

Conversation
:::) If you really don't mind I would appreciate it and would try to return the favor (once I become a better Wiki Editor)! Below I put the citations after each group of sentences they pertain to:
Darren Farris, (born August 2, 1972), is an American singer-songwriter based out of Los Angeles, California. (citation #5) As a musician he is most notable for the self-penned 2008 singles "Jenna" and "Save Me", from the album Psychopathic Issues. (Citation #7) Just weeks after the 2008 release of Psychopathic Issues, Farris' father passed away. The death of his father sent Farris into social reclusion for several months, distancing himself from the music industry and his new-found fans. (Citation #4) In the spring of 2009 Farris emerged from his hiatus and resumed promotion efforts for Psychopathic Issues with a deep space, broadcast transmission of his single "Save Me". (Citation #1) The deep space transmission garnered Farris some press headlines and put him second only to The Beatles for similar deep space broadcasts. ( Citation # 2) However, despite several efforts Farris was unable to spawn another significant hit song from the album.
Early years
After being raised the first five years of his life in Chicago, Illinois, the Farris' family relocated to Tennessee. Darren was so influenced by the music being pumped out of the Memphis airwaves, that he would ditch school to hang out at Beale Street dives. (Citation #5) Later he would relocate to Los Angeles and study acting under the Hollywood based acting coach Ellen Gerstein. (Citation #4)
--Mackygirl (talk) 08:28, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
Ok. I put one too many slashes on the MTV link. However, the information I got from that site and references 5 and 6 are redundant. As the other articles that you have so VERY graciously cited for me contain the used information. I just remove those 3 references since they are redundant and just back up other sources. :) --Mackygirl (talk) 09:56, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Can you tell?

Can you tell me why the V article should be reverted back to yesterday? (At my talk page) Feel free to tell me. I'll (fix) improve. Tuanese (talk) 17:28, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

First, My mind did not mean to vandalize. Because I always here and I also love my "very first" idol. The fact is: I just want to expand the page, it's small (compared to many other albums) - I want it deserves more than that.
Second, I'm using Firefox in Windows 7, LCD screen. I didn't know that it looked horrible on your computer (no-one said this before) - I'm glad if you can capture your screen and show me how it looked like.

Reason: I saw many newly released albums had tracklist (you can always search), so I just want to upgrade to more modern, more beautiful look of track list.

Third, every edit is welcomed!
Thank you once more time for helping me "see the light" :)
By the way, you can try to listen just a little bit of album, may be you will like her music! Tuanese (talk) 09:00, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I hope this is the right place to asnwer you.

I don't think this page needs a further cleanup. I put a lot of extra links in it just now and a better picture. This article is rewritten a few times already in the past, many people made changes including me. It's objectivly written, with info about this rather well-known singer in Vietnam; not a promotional press letter, in my opinion.

In the past 2 times some fools has screwed the whole page and it took me days to repair it. So I hope you can understand I'm getting a little tired of all those different opinions of all those different people. If somebody really has more info they are welcome to publish it. But in the meantime, please respect my work. I really don't know what to change more at this moment to make it more a wiki.

Anyway, regards and thanx for your concern,

Winfried Povel

: Dear Wikhead,
As many workers on this project, as many opinions.
In the last years I have changed a lot already on the layout; some adviced this, others adviced me that.
> CD and DVD titles are supposed to appear in italic text, and not bold.
I checked 2 important wiki's: The Beatles and U2.
Both use for their album titles Italic AND Bold.
So I choose to do the same now. (Check it out, it looks better)
> Another issue I quickly see, is all the external links throughout the article, which should all be placed together in an "external links" section at the bottom of the page.
There are no external links throughout the article, accept for the links in "Television shows" and "References and sources", and they are at the bottom of the site.
If it must be different, I don't know how to do it.
I have made a special list with "References and sources" because another helper wanted me to do so in the past.
I have made a list of video clips and tv-shows, because some fool (anonimous ofcourse, I think he/she was from Australia) put on the wiki this: "This singer is not known at all; he has never been on TV!!!" ......
Can you understand how angry I got after that messing up?
> I should mention as well, that the YouTube links are highly discouraged, and will most likely be removed by wiki-robots.
Most of the YouTube links are there already over a year, and no wiki-robot ever removed it.
And it doesn't give unwanted attention to the article in my opinion.
People like to know where they can see the clips, is my expierience.
I thought it was not allowed to put clips or music on Wikipedia itself, that's why I did it this way.
However, on the U2 wiki you can listen to music too. That supprised me a lot !
I don't want to point at others, believe me.
Just wanna say that I think this wiki is good now as it is.
I hope you can be satisfied too.
It took me a whole evening work, with my bad eyes. (I'm gonna be blind fully in a few years) :-(

Thank you! Haha I am a fan of Rescue Heroes, and I'm 20. I know from having to babysit for some kids sometimes, and besides, they showed how to put out a Grease Fire in one episode, what Four-Year-Old Would be allowed to do that? Notability of individual band members

You recently undid a number of redirects of individual members of the band The Tragically Hip that leave unsourced articles about individuals that contain no information as to how the person is individually notable outside of the context of participation in the band.

Whether or not they are members of The Tragically Hip or any other band, the articles on the individual band members must still individually meet the requirements for a stand alone article - i.e. signifigance on their own as recorded by third party sources.Active Banana (talk) 23:34, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

On Conrad Models

Thanks for cleaning up Conrad Models on which I've done the majority of work (for now). The one thing I'm unsure about is citation method recommended. In scholarship and other writing, the general APA method where author is cited with year and page number to references at the end of a work is much easier to follow and interpret than numbered references with ibid, ibid, ibid and more ibid. This way, a work only has to be listed once at the end, it's easier to set up, easier to alter, and one doesn't have to deal with all the linking mechanics of the numbering - and, you HAVE no numbers! It's wonderful. So you commented that there are no citations in the text, but there are - in parentheses by the author's name, which lead one down to the bottom for the complete reference. Your comments on the bottom of my talk page would be welcome. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cstevencampbell (talkcontribs) 05:56, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi again, A quick question: with the citation needed tag - how do we get rid of it? as a user an i allowed to remove the tag, as we have many references? thanks wikhead MelodyMedley (talk) 17:16, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Al Baker and the Dole Queue

So, I just now got the message you left on my talk page about Al Baker and the Dole Queue. I know this band is notable, and I really think there should be an article about them, but I really don't have the time to write them a full article. What would I need to do to make an article on them that isn't deleted immediately? 'Cause I thought that was what the stub tag was for. RaccoonTalk 03:14, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned article

Hi. I've now added two articles which link to the Radio_23 wiki page- is this adequate to remove the "Orphan" tag? I am still in the process of adding more links and references. Please let me know what you think rather than me just removing it again. Regards. Fiedorczuk Fiedorczuk (talk) 17:35, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks WikiHead, more links added and more to follow. Fiedorczuk (talk) 22:57, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I'd like to ask you what references should I find and add (since you added the tag)? This article shares most of its information with the Polish Wikipedia, and almost everything is on the one link at the bottom - that is, specifications and order by Elbląg. If you could point out what exactly is unreferenced, I'll try to find that information. Soeb talk|contribs 12:41, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

You cited bare url links for my references, but actually I put those links there to be helpful. My references at the bottom of the page encompass the information cited, and I also cited the urls correctly at the bottom of the page with the name of the interviewer, magazine name, and so forth. Is there anything else that needs to be done? Please respond on my talk page. Nightofstars (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 10:07, 11 June 2010 (UTC).

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 01:07, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi Wikhead

Sorry, I haven't meant to annoy you editing this article. I'm new to Wikipedia editing, so I'm still getting used to the technology and the etiquette.

I'm not sure what I did incorrectly that meant you needed to chnage some of my edits. I'd be grateful if you could enlighten me so I don't keep making the same mistakes and cause you and others unnecessary grief.

Thanks, Declan Declan Palmer (talk) 13:11, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Cheers Wikhead, thanks for that. I think I've fixed the edit in the Environmental Planning article that was concerned you. I think it was the last external link? Instead of having that as a reference I've turned it into a link to an external site which seems consistent with that section of the article. Is that right? Is it OK now?
While I've got you, can I ask a question. I've titled my article Transport Integration Acxt 2010 but really I think most people would expect it not to have the year in the heading. Therefore, perhaps it should be just Transport Integration Act. How could I change that easily without making a whole new article?
Or, is it possible to have any Wikipedia search for the Transport Integration Act simply go to the article that's already been posted? Can that be done?
I'd be really grateful for your assistance.
Many thanks, Declan Declan Palmer (talk) 23:16, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Ya I do plan on starting an article when i get more information (within the next couple of weeks). Password1125 (talk) 17:27, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion converted to PROD: Gilivable

Hello WikHead. I am just letting you know that I have converted the speedy deletion tag that you placed on Gilivable to a proposed deletion tag, because I do not believe CSD applies to the page in question. WP:CSD#G1 is only meant for the likes of "%^K#**4cX#??%" or "Yaaaaayyyy LOL!!!!!". This is coherent; it fails WP:NAD and WP:V and WP:NFT, but it isn't speediable. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 11:32, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi John. Since tagging that article, I've looked up and down the speedy criteria list in search of something more appropriate, and had almost declined my own speedy a few times, simply because nothing seemed to be a perfect match. I don't believe the article was created with the intent to vandalise... and because there's no such thing as db-silliness or db-goofy, "nonsense" seemed to be the closest word-description I could give. Thanks for the adjustment!  -- WikHead (talk) 12:10, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Yes, this is a difficult sort of article, but the speedy criteria are deliberately tightly drawn. I have a few times suggested a new speedy for "blatantly made up one day", but the general view was that unless something is bad enough for hoax (implying intent to deceive) or vandalism (intent to damage the encyclopedia) it should be PRODded. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 13:28, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Our fold

Hello WikHead, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Our fold, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The article makes a credible assertion of importance or significance, sufficient to pass A7. Hi! I appreciate your interest but am just in the process of creating this article. Unfortunately, your tag caused me to lose a large amount of text I was just writing due to edit conflict (it's my fault, I should have saved the changes, but I thpught I should let you know). So, please give me a bit more time to give this article at least a basic form. Best wishes, John Hill (talk) 04:15, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Similar situation at Premier League of Volleyball of Bosnia and Herzegovina - my own fault, I was correcting the references/ tag situation and making some editing changes as well, so I do appreciate you catching my error but perhaps you could hang on just a little bit longer to allow for idiots like myself who regularly make the same mistake but sometimes forget to Preview. Thanks. Opbeith (talk) 12:40, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the fix ! I haven't panicked like that for years - I didn't know what to do in case any further actions made it worse

cheers for that Chaosdruid (talk) 14:45, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

It seems that it's a javascript problem as the drop downs don't work properly either and I can't click on some of the top tabs as they display under the wiki image - I had to ask someone to add the wikibreak tag to my talkpage for example. Unfortunately these sort of problems only seem to become apparent after the event lol and this was my first revert using the phone I shall def not be using it for any popup edits again
I am using a Nokia N97 and as it is non native html it cannot properly implement Java or php. I am hoping to get a new motherboard next week so until then I should probably stick to simple edits :-(
Thanks for the kind way you dealt with this :-)

Re: December 2010

Thanks for the welcome, although it seems a bit strange since I have been contributing for several years. And you keep referring to Wikipedia as "we" and "our", as if you work there. It's also peculiar that you mention neutrality when I changed a derogatory genre name to a more neutral one. Aikclaes (talk) 18:14, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi, you have not addressed the above arguments from me. Instead, you just repeat yourself on my talk page. I have added my arguments on the song's discussion page where the topic of the song's derogatory genre names obviously has been up before. A neutral genre name is more suitable than a derogatory one. If you disagree, please provide an argument. Aikclaes (talk) 18:35, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

I've just noticed the edit you made to the Truth article. Before you fixed it, it read ...James and Dewey's ideas also ascribe to to repeated testing which is "self-corrective" over time. Nothing wrong with your correction of course, I just like the way your edit demonstrated the very principle which it was describing... ;-)

Barnstar

The Invisible Barnstar
I award you this barn-star. Thanks for fixing a link on Tops In Blue. Upon reading your contribs, it appears you are a hard working Wikipedian who does a lot of the tedious and subtle edits that many of us miss (especially me). Further, most of your edits are marked "M" for minor which takes much of the focus off the edit. While your edits may be marked with "M", you're contributions should be marked with "G" for greatly contributed. For the most part, you also don't use automated tools, except the occasional reflinks. Your actions reflect great character and your willingness to work with little or no gratitude, despite actually being given it, speaks volumes about you. v/r - TP 18:08, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your attention to Stephan's page. I appreciate the notice about possible linkrot, a great word for a problem I've encountered for some time. But I don't think there's much more we can do about this, except for the most recent two or three entries. For all the rest, I've already done extensive research and have cited every available original source in standard form rather than just URL. In cases where there's only a URL, it's either because there was no printed publication, just an online issue (e.g, #13, the NPR interview) or because further citation is impossible to find (e.g. #5, the Village Voice article by Sarah Ferguson. It took me days just to locate Sarah as the writer, and I've attempted to get the data of issue from the Voice archives with no success. The exact date is lost somewhere in history. Nevertheless, it's been quoted so often, for so long, by so many people, that there's no doubt about its authenticity. I'd like to remove the linkrot citation from top of the page. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions. Thanks again. Boztown (talk) 00:44, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
