Aviation nav templates
I've moved and reworked the nav templates to use names of the form "Aviation accidents and incidents in yyyy" rather than "...incidents and accidents..." so that they now agree with the category name. While I'm not sanguine about using both the categories and the templates, they should at least be consistently named. Because the move created redirects the existing entries on articles will still work, but please use the new one when adding to pages in order to minimize server hits for the redirects. Orphaned non-free media (File:VIZOnelogo.gif)
Thanks for uploading File:VIZOnelogo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 03:38, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Mexico_landsat.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Mexico_landsat.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

Chapel Hill Residents
I usually keep an eye on the entries for residents of Chapel Hill/Carrboro prepared to delete the various vanity links the appear from time to time. I was quite surprised to see the wholesale deletion of individuals. I had assumed, possibly wrongly, that referencing a Wikipedia article which had already met the test of significance was sufficient reference for an individual (provided the article mentioned the town in question.) In looking around that seems to be the operating standard for this sort of thing. If it is not, then that should be mentioned on the talk page. I'm a fairly reasonable editor-type, but this seemed to me to be a bit egregious.
Digitalican (talk) 19:37, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
I hear what you're saying and the general principle makes sense to me. For clarification and sanity, however, if a listing for a given individual links to a Wikipedia article which is adequately referenced (with respect to the attribute in question,) must those references also be copied over to the referencing link? Obviously, we can go through that exercise if necessary, but it is a bit redundant and adds to the general clutter.

Grocery chains
Not sure of your point? Spartan stores and Aldi are both chain grocery retailers in the city. Aldi are generally not as large as a target, even though it has many stores, thus the term 'major' may lead someone to think it may be a big box Target or something. The description of Spartan stores in the source means that an individual Spartan store is smaller than a Target. The sentence already says its "German based," saying its out of state is just unnecessary repetition. The source says, "Grand Rapids-based Spartan Stores, the 10th-largest grocery retailer in the nation, operates 26 stores within the city limits alone." [1] The Foley source says this, so it is in the source I had cited. As for the other different names, Spartan company website says that it aquired those other stores. Thanks for the concern. Houston Police Department
Nearly all of the law enforcement article on US agencies have disambiguated to reflect the state the agency is in. This has been done to assist in the identification of each agency (believe it or not, not everyone knows where Houston is, expecially international users). A search for the Houston PD would still bring up the article even with the state in the title. This is in compliance with Wikipedia standards. The relevant convention would give credence to my view (and that of the members of the Law Enforcement Project):
- The standard practice shall be to pre-disambiguate in the format Articlename articlename (Jurisdictionname)
I believe you are wrong when you stated Stop moving it to an innapropriate disambiguation name! SGT141 (talk) 07:35, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
- OK, first, you ask me to review what amounts to a message board - I gave you Wikipedia policy. Even the one policy you cited states pre-disambiguation is manditory, unless certain circumstances (that do not exist, IMHO) are met. The US Postal Service expects you to write Houston, Texas on the envelope, does it not? I also understand that since you are from Texas, you may be slightly Texas-centric, but I can't see where you got the idea that there is any expectation for international users that they will know the name "Houston" like they do "New York," "Los Angeles," etc. There is no other ciies named New York City or Los Angeles that I am aware of. There are, however, 12 other cities in the United State named Houston. We will have to agree to disagree - but your actions are the ones violating the policy.SGT141 (talk) 17:47, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Removing speedy deletion tags from titles you created
Regarding this edit, you should have waited for an uninvolved admin to come along and remove the speedy. Per WP:CSD: "The creator of a page may not remove a Speedy Delete tag from it. Only an editor who is not the creator of a page may do so." (emphasis in original) It's sort of moot now, since the rfd was closed as keep, but I thought I'd remind you of the policy. Cheers, --Aervanath (talk) 04:22, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- Strike all that, and never mind. It only appears that way because I undeleted the past history of the page, so now the diff makes it look like you removed the speedy tag, when instead what you did was recreate the redirect after it had been deleted. Sorry about that.--Aervanath (talk) 04:26, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

History of HFD
Hi there,
I noticed that you did some editing on that page. The sections that you put on the Cite Tag on are contained in the pages in the references that is listed below. Does this mean that each section needs to be marked as such?
Although, I do admit that improve tag needs to be there, I'm sure the format and prose can be improved upon. --Hourick (talk) 05:22, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
- Fair enough. My wiki skills never advanced that far; so it's going to have to be "a","b","c", etc, then?--Hourick (talk) 05:32, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I'll figure it out. The problem is the website is continuous so there is no real way to reference a particular section/page. But I'll figure it out. --Hourick (talk) 02:38, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'm about to start doing the editing (while I still have the time), but I'm also struggling how to handle the growing scandal. It needs to be put in the timeline. I believe that it might also need a note in the main article, expounded upon on this one, but if it keeps growing, it might need it's own subsection; which could accumulate enough that it might need it's own article.
Thoughts? Ridicule and laughter accepted.--Hourick (talk) 20:45, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
Ah, Prose! Funny thing that. Since the creation of the article, I've been meaning to do that, it's current form kinda' happened as an accident and it kept growing. Sorta' like mold on bread, but I'll get to it. :) --Hourick (talk) 21:06, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

- Confirming again, I have OAG world airline schedules from October 1997, and its shows both K4 and 9Y operating flights to a number destinations, so both airlines existed together back then, K4 was not shut in 1996 but later on around 1998 or a few years later, after which 9Y became the sole carrier, and they too stopped operating in 2004 being replaced by Air Astana.116.71.39.236 (talk) 17:55, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

I thought you were talking about the HQ at Century Plaza (Marine Corps Drive northside between Highways 10A and 14B), but looks like it's ticketing office only. Looks like the old Commuter Terminal has been taken over by Air Mike as their admin office. I just went to guamphonebook.com and their admin number is associated with the freight and other airport offices (645 prefix, which is a new Tamuning prefix) while the ticketing/reservation number is 647-MIKE which is regular/old Tamuning. The other thing is that I'm not sure where the Tamuning-Barrigada boundary lies with respect to the new Terminal, which might be in Barrigada. The old terminal is definitely Tamuning (the boundary wraps around it). Use Google maps and Census maps to confirm. HkCaGu (talk) 04:24, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the map link since I don't have time to dig where it is. OK if you type "13.4930 144.8055" in Google Maps (switch to Satellite), you'll see the crosswalk in front of the "big top" of the new terminal building. After comparing with the Census map, the parking lot is definitely Tamuning, while most of the terminal building is Barrigada. The southerly road closer to the terminal building which only has one crosswalk is the departure (upper) level road. The narrower road slightly to the north which has several crosswalk is the arrival (lower) level road. Since the upper-level road is part of the building structure (it sits right above the lower-level indoor area), the building is definitely partly (though very small) in Tamuning. (The bright white stuff is rain shelter/cover.) And because access to the terminal is from Tamuning, all phone lines and mail delivery are Tamuning--for this side of the runways, but it doesn't mean they're politically/geographically Tamuning.
- Old commuter terminal is at "13.4893 144.8011"--definitely Tamuning. HkCaGu (talk) 15:46, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

List of Rurouni Kenshin characters
The minor characters section seems totally unnecesary and there are lots of nonfree images (over ten). Rather than using individual images, it could use group images.Tintor2 (talk) 16:12, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
Still the images are copyrighted and violate WP:Non-free content. The captions can be easily explained in the sections. Just see the FL List of Naruto characters or List of Tokyo Mew Mew characters as examples. Like the section's name, minor characters are minor, they don't have too much impact im the plot of the series and they are only needed in a few episodes/chapters. Just see their descripitions in the list. For example, the Owl clan only appeared for less that ten pages and they never appeared again. The same goes for the one-shot characters, they only appeared there and never returned (except Kenji's girlfriend for five seconds).
By the way, there is something I have been curious, where did Kenshin get his surname Himura? During that time, people from those places did not have surnames, and Hiko only gave him the name of Kenshin. Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 19:19, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
But that doesn't avoid the article from having an overuse of non-free images. Images to explain creation are more suitable in a character's own article. The Death Note list is also in need of clean up, and instead of using individual images, list should use groupal images to reduce the overuse of non-free content.(Tintor2 (talk) 00:43, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
As for minor characters, the info of the one-shot characters is still very little (with Chizuru's exception). By the way, here you have a group image featuring the ten swords that could be used in the list (but with a smaller resolution). The captions do not need an explanation of design as everything is explained in sections. Just saying that Henya looks like an animal will be enough to describe his character. If we sticking to adding more image, we will have to use images of Eva-01, Tao Pai Pai and other things mentioned in the article, which would be pointless.Tintor2 (talk) 00:56, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Cirilo Vázquez
A tag has been placed on Cirilo Vázquez requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Non-English links
Hi,
Per WP:EL's Non-English language content section and MOS Non-English language sites, I consider the removal defensible at least. I can't read the site (I'll try to get a translation later) but since Shogakukan is the publisher, would it not be akin to having this page as an EL at Lord of Chaos?
Obviously it depends on the contents of the publisher's page, but if it's just a sales site, I would read that as out per point 5. WLU (t) (c) Wikipedia's rules:simple/complex 13:14, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Galveston Bay Area
Thought you might be interested in this article. An editor has recently been expanding it, however mostly with information taken from the Greater Houston article. The duplication of information and the format/style in which article has been written, raises concerns that it might become a candidate for merging into Greater Houston. Cheers! -- Nsaum75 (talk) 19:52, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- Hi. I noticed you've put a lot of work into expanding the Galveston Bay Area article. With so much of the content borrowed from Greater Houston or linking back to articles specifically about Houston (climate, geography etc), I am concerned there may not be sufficient information unique to the article to allow it to stand on its own (ie: someone will come along and suggest it be merged into a section of Greater Houston). Maybe some more Galveston Bay Area specific RS information should be introduced. Just my two cents. Thanks again for all the work you've put into the article. Cheers! --WhisperToMe (talk) 20:25, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- I must add that if you have sources that identify the "Galveston Bay Area" as a distinct region that is different from Greater Houston, the article could be kept. Otherwise it should be merged into Greater Houston. WhisperToMe (talk) 20:25, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for the feedback. I'm not sure I can agree with the logic that expanding an article means that it should be merged into another article. If I add some information from the New York article that is similar to New Jersey into the New Jersey article does that mean the New Jersey article should be merged with New York?
- A certain degree of redundancy in articles is acceptable and even appropriate. That is, it is not reasonable to say that every time two topics have some information in common the information must be put in one place and the other article must not mention it except to provide a link. This makes for patchwork articles that cannot stand on their own. And certainly I can easily list numerous places all over Wikipedia where redundancy exists between related topics or subtopics of larger topics.
- In any event I agree that more Bay Area-specific info needs to be added. I was simply trying to look for low hanging fruit in terms of expanding this and making it a more complete article. Although I copied a lot from the Houston article I have made some Bay Area-specific modifications already (granted nothing earth-shattering at this point). But still, this article is a subtopic of Greater Houston and so a certain degree of overlap is entirely logical.
- --Mcorazao (talk) 20:52, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- While there are places where there is some redundancy, what Nsaum was saying was that the content of Greater Houston is almost the same as the content in the Galveston Bay Area article. Because of the way the Galveston Bay Area article was expanded, we feel that it is a redundant article. If you had expanded it with different content, and with sourcing that identifies the Galveston Bay Area as an area distinct from Greater Houston, then it would not be a redundant article. WhisperToMe (talk) 20:54, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks again for the prompt response.
- I'm a little puzzled by this discussion:
- I wasn't the one who created the article. It is a little strange to argue that it needs to be merged because I added to it when nobody was suggesting that before.
- Whether or not two articles have the same content or not really has nothing to do with whether they should be merged. That issue is independent. Even if two articles have entirely different content there could still be a good reason to merge them (i.e. they are both talking about the same thing but just include different information about that same thing). Conversely if articles on two distinct topics contain largely the same information then this indicates that either one of the articles is missing some information or else one of the articles has too much information. It does not, however, mean in and of itself that they should be merged. To put it a different way, just because there is something bad about how an article is written does not mean the topic does not have merit as an article.
- Really the only good reason to delete this article is if you believe the topic is not sufficiently notable (i.e. you believe that the Bay Area is not a significant enough subdivision of the Houston Area to merit its own article). Certainly there is an argument to be made there (although I would disagree). But this is not the argument you are making.
- In any event I had intended to do some further editing as I have time.

- It's not a matter of who wrote the article. It's a matter of how the article stands now. Maybe people didn't say these things in the past, but that doesn't mean one cannot speak up about a certain article later. Also, merging is not deleting. Wikipedia:Merging describes "Duplicate" and "Overlap" as a reason to merge. WhisperToMe (talk) 21:23, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
- Yah, but you're using the terms "Duplicate" and "Overlap" in a way that is not intended in the policy statement. In both cases the policy statements talk about the subject, not the content. You are arguing about the current contents of the article, not the subjects of the article. The subjects are certainly not "duplicates". They do "overlap" but the policy only states that "overlap" is bad if the sub-topic is not important enough to justify its own article. Again, if you want to make that argument then we can discuss that but this is not the argument that you have made so far.
- The one item on list that is theoretically applicable is "Text". The original article was just a stub and a significant portion of what I added was not exactly unique. Still, I have added some unique material and obviously I am making a good faith effort to continue doing so (i.e. not fair to criticize an unfinished work).

Hey, I started a discussion on merging the articles just to expedite. Please enter your thoughts there and we can see what folks have to say.
Thanks.

San Diego needs more references? Really??
Hi, WhisperToMe! You recently added a tag to the San Diego article saying "This article needs additional citations for verification". I wonder if you would reconsider and remove the tag? The article already has 73 references!
You added the tag right after objecting to my use of a wiki as a reference. I accepted your point and replaced the wiki with two actual references. But I'm wondering if the whole article really needs to be tagged? --MelanieN (talk) 01:13, 4 September 2009 (UTC)MelanieN

Proposed Removal of all non de jure diplomatic Missions in List Articles
I would like to seek your view as to whether we should eliminate from the lists of diplomatic missions by sending/receiving countries all references to representative offices of sending states that do not have formal diplomatic missions with the host states. This would affect a large number of articles which relate to Taiwan, Palestine, Kosovo and other states. Please provide your views here. Thank you. Kransky (talk) 06:34, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

Well, who cares what you buy?
You're not the king of truth. Truthiness perhaps, because any sane person knows that verifiability is worth shit. It does not matter if an article, a source or a source of a source states something. It’s still just a statement. So fuck your "verifiability" hippy treehugger dreamland! I bet you still think that "One Single Truth"(TM) is a physically viable concept! LOL
Now for some facts: I got a eDoney client running for many years now, and these are the statistics of unique clients seen from that station in the last 1147 days 11 hours, 38 minutes and 43 seconds:

So you wouldn't call that a network that is alive and well?
But I guess you don't “buy” anything that does not fit your ego, right?
Damn Wikinazis!

Need a pic
Hey WhisperToMe, would you happen to have a pic of the Alabama Theatre in your image library? Thanks, Postoak (talk) 02:04, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
- Great, thanks! I added the article last night. Postoak (talk) 02:35, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
- Off topic, but I wish some art or revival theater company would buy the Alabama and convert it back to a theater. All it needs is seats and a sound system. Hope they don't tear it down. I remember seeing Close Encounters of the Third Kind there, we waited in a line that went around the building and down Alabama. It was one of the first theaters in Houston that had a Dolby Stereo system. Postoak (talk) 20:29, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
- Alamo would be a great company to take it over. It would unique entertainment for the area. Postoak (talk) 20:40, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Virginia Department of Education
Thanks a bunch for starting the article on the Virginia Department of Education, even if it's just a stub and part one of many state DoEs you started. Still, it's something I've know for a while needed to be done, yet I balked at the complexity of the subject. This is cool for me since I just nominated Virginia for FAC. So thanks!-- Patrick {oѺ∞} 04:30, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
AF headquarters
Hi! I found a picture of the Air France headquarters on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ettorephotos/3173333343/
Since images of French modern buildings are copyrighted to the architect, what licensing information would I need to provide to upload this on to FR as fair use? How do I find the copyright information for this particular building? Thanks, WhisperToMe (d) 11 septembre 2009 à 07:42 (CEST)
- Check this one, to view some picture of recent building on fr. If you want I could upload it on fr. Zil (talk) 15:05, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
- In that case, please upload the AF HQ image on FR. Thanks WhisperToMe (d) 11 septembre 2009 à 17:58 (CEST)
- Ok, I'd just check the pic on flickr. It's full copyright so not compliant with fr.wiki policy. Sorry. Zil (talk) 16:41, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
- On Flickr one can ask an author of a pic to relicense it to a different license. So, does the person who uploaded the picture have any rights to this photo under French law? If so, should I ask him to relicense the photograph to Creative Commons or something? WhisperToMe (d) 11 septembre 2009 à 18:56 (CEST)
- We do considere that there is two licenses as it is a 3D object. One License is the building which is not free but acceptable on fr, the other one is the piccture taht need to be free on fr. When the building will be free of copyright (in 100 years ?), we need to be sure that the picture is... Zil (talk) 17:07, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Map_of_Virginia_highlighting_BWI_Metro_Area.PNG
Thanks for uploading File:Map_of_Virginia_highlighting_BWI_Metro_Area.PNG.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:52, 12 September 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 02:52, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
Izair
Hi WhisperToMe, I've noticed that you recently moved Izair to IZair. Are you shure that this is the official spelling for which the airline is registered, or just sort of marketing? I couldn't find any sources, so maybe you can provide one? I'm suspicious on it because for instance we have Air Berlin, even though they are advertising as airberlin. Best regards Per aspera ad Astra (talk) 12:46, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
- but then we should also use bmi instead of BMI, see [10] (they even have the lower typeface in their adress). IFAIK we don't do so because their officially registered name is still British Midland Airways, but I'm not entirely sure about it. Per aspera ad Astra (talk) 18:07, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
- edit: have placed it for a more thorough discussion here Per aspera ad Astra (talk) 18:19, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Diplomatic missions of Russia
Thank you for helping out with this article. There is still the matter of adding links to all those embassy specific stubbs Russavia created, something we can do over time. Kransky (talk) 21:42, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
I understand why you deleted the "notable people" list from that article, per guidance, but bear with me (as the main editor on that page, and local resident), and when I get time I'll improve the article generally and incorporate those refs into the text. OK? Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:04, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what specific citations you're looking for - in each case the info comes from the relevant linked WP articles, and none of it is any way contentious. Are you saying that the place of birth info needs to be specifically cited in every article in which it appears? In any case, what would be the problem in adding a specific tag to that section, if it is a serious concern? The article, like 99% of articles, needs restructuring to meet WP guidance, but that does not give a sufficient reason for removing that particular section. The tag at the top of the article, which is perfectly correct and accurate, gives fair warning to the reader by explaining that the article as a whole needs better refs. From Russavia's talk
- The mysterious airplane codes stand for Tupolev Tu-330 and Tu-230.
- No, it's not the Aeroflot HQ. Most of their staff relocated to a new block in Sheremetyevo (Melkisarovo, to be precise, 35500 square meters), but then the top brass realized how far it is and set up a different office in Moscow proper, in a new office block called Midland Plaza, on Arbat Street (7000 square meters). Air France headquarters
What do you want exactly ? As far as I know, the headquarters of Air France are not in the charles de gaulle airport, but in Paris. Could you precise. On commons, there are various pictures of charles de gaulle airport. --Tangopaso (talk) 19:20, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
- OK I will try, next month for the HQ in Roissy. Sooner I hope for Square Max Hymans. I thought that the HQ were still there...--Tangopaso (talk) 22:47, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
- Done ! I did it for you this afternoon ! Can you check and fix the characteristics of the file (categories OK ?). Because I did not upload files to english wikipedia yet (I upload to Commons). I took 4 other pictures in Square Max Hymans (closer building), but I think that they have no great interest. I did not find any trace of 'Air France'. --Tangopaso (talk) 15:16, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
