GA review: Proxima Centauri
Hi there! I've completed the GA review. The article mainly needs work on the prose (jargon / clarity / tone). The review is at the article's talk page. Cheers! -Samuel Tan 09:53, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for your review of the article, and your various edits. I tried to make corrections to the text where you indicated. Please take a look and see what you think.—RJH (talk) 21:13, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- I modified the sentence about magnesium emission to clarify what is meant. Is it okay now? Thank you for catching that.—RJH (talk) 19:19, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Thank you again for your review. Your efforts are appreciated.—RJH (talk) 17:04, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Number of articles needing copy edit
Hi Samuel, User:Falcon Kirtaran and I came up with two radically different numbers for the number of articles in CAT:COPY (listed on both the CAT:COPY page and WP:WikiProject Articles Needing Copy Edit). The method I used was to use the number of articles in CAT:COPY's subcategory Category:All articles needing copy edit. I'm not sure what method he used, but he says my method is correct. I wanted to make sure, though: was this the same method you used? I want to make sure we're all using the same method, so the statistics don't get wonky. -kotra (talk) 05:06, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
A request for copyediting
Hello. I see you were a member of the League of Copyeditors... An article I nominated at WP:FAC, Candide, is receiving some criticism for its prose, and I'm looking for a thorough copyediting... Would you mind looking at Candide? Thanks! -- Rmrfstar (talk) 08:10, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hi there! I'm afraid I can't help in great detail because a lot of my time is taken up helping with WPP:COPY. Have you tried getting help at WP:PR? -Samuel Tan 09:57, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, I don't have time for WP:PR, which is very slow these days... I nominated Candide and waited two weeks without any responses; then I removed it to go to FAC. I'm not being impatient; but I re-start school in a few weeks and soon won't have the time to edit Wikipedia very actively. -- Rmrfstar (talk) 15:03, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- Copy edited a portion of the article, and left some comments regarding portions that were unclear on its talk page here. Cheers! -Samuel Tan 05:23, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

By the way, I think this is an excellent article. Did you write most of it yourself? I will help with the remainder of the copy editing if i have the time.-Samuel Tan 05:25, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks: I did write most of it myself. And thank you for the edits and suggestions. -- Rmrfstar (talk) 12:42, 6 August 2008 (UTC
- Solid job copyediting! You know, the reward for doing a good job on Wikipedia is another job... Seriously, if you get the chance, I'd really appreciate a look at the remaining portions. Thanks again... -- Rmrfstar (talk) 12:59, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
- I found someone else to finish the job in time for the FAC. If you're too busy to work on Candide, don't worry about it. Thanks again! -- Rmrfstar (talk) 21:31, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
- Cheers and all the best to the FAC! -Samuel Tan 10:53, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Re: WikiProject Articles Needing Copy Edit
Hello Samuel. I am sorry for the somewhat late response on this, but I have been on vacation and was unable to access the Internet during the last couple of weeks. Thank you for the invitation to your WikiProject. It is a great effort from your side which is very needed for Wikipedia to develop and I am happy to accept it. I'm looking forward to working with you and the other members of the Project to help improve the quality of Wikipedia. Cheers, AVandtalkcontribs 12:29, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
re: Non-admin SNOW closures
A couple of thoughts in no particular order:
- The fact that someone has suggested "merge" does not derail the emerging unanimity. Deletion means the removal of the entire page and its pagehistory from the project. Mergers and redirects do not do that. "Merge" is a flavor of keep. AfD's jurisdiction ends when the decision is made not to delete. (Deference is usually given to recommendations to merge but that part of a closure decision is no more binding than any other similarly well-attended discussion.)
- WP:SNOW closures are inherently evil. Okay, that's an overstatement but the more I see WP:SNOW applied, the more I become convinced that it is more counter-productive than helpful as a policy. SNOW closures end up at Deletion Review at a rate far higher than regular closures. Once at DRV, we end up spending far more time and energy debating whether the closure was appropriate than we could possibly have saved by closing the debate early. (I'm not yet ready to propose the formal revocation of WP:SNOW but I'm getting close. The evidence against it continues to mount.) Except in the rarest of circumstances, the project is much better off by simply letting the debate run its normal course.
- If you feel even the slightest hesitancy or doubt about a closure, as a non-admin you really should let someone else make the close. Again, it's a matter of efficiency. If you have doubts, someone else likely will too. As a non-admin, your closure will get greater scrutiny. And that means an increased chance that we have to do this all over again at DRV.
- I would also urge caution about that particular article. WP:WINAD is a widely misunderstood policy. It is apparent from some of the comments that a number of the participants do not understand the policy or are seriously underestimating the capabilities of a truly great unabridged dictionary like Wiktionary. (Unfortunately, I would say that most admins also make this mistake - the relationships between WIkipedia and Wiktionary are complex.) If this debate is allowed to run its course, I would not be surprised to see more nuanced opinions offered during the discussion. I would recommend against speedy-closing this debate regardless of the admin status of the closer.
I hope at least of few of those thoughts are helpful to you. I imagine that if you asked the same question to three other admins, though, you'd get at least four other answers. There is no easy or obvious answer here. Rossami (talk) 01:57, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Copyedit request
Hi. I was wondering if you could do a copyedit of Strawberry Fields Forever, which is at GA status (which of course means the article is free of any major errors). I am currently shooting for FA status, so I would like a copyedit that would fix prose errors, redundancy, style, cohesion, and the other nitty-gritty things. Please contact me on my talk page, or email me with a response. Thanks! Kodster (heLLo) (Me did that) 23:50, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
