We use consensus, not voting
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your comments. Please note that on Wikipedia, consensus is determined by discussion, not voting, and it is the quality of arguments that counts, not the number of people supporting a position. Consider reading about the deletion policy for a brief overview for the deletion process, and how we decide what to keep and what to delete. We hope you decide to stay and contribute even more. Thank you! ExtraDry 07:41, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
Newington College
[edit]It goes without saying that admins are carefully watching edits related to this set of articles. There has been a disturbing amount of edit warring, quarrelling and assuming bad faith going on in edit summaries and on talk pages, as well as questionable additions to and removals from the articles in question. While the checkuser finding has come back fairly inconclusive, the behaviour of all parties is under scrutiny and breaches of policy will not be tolerated. If this warning is not heeded, blocks may well be the next stage. Orderinchaos 23:30, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
- You're free to manage the content of your own talk page. Per WP:TALK#User_talk_pages: "Policy does not prohibit users from removing comments from their own talk pages, though archiving is preferred." Orderinchaos 00:54, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- He left my actual addition intact - to be honest I was being bold by reverting the now 2-month-old talk page message. If you don't feel it should be there, remove it. He would be unwise to revert a change to your talk page by yourself (whereas he could argue that as I removed it from your page, he was doing you a service by restoring it). If he does revert you on your own talk page, then certainly let me know then. Orderinchaos 02:39, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
Please be more careful when editing Talk pages. Your recent edit removed two comments from other editors. --ElKevbo (talk) 15:10, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Bob Baxt, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.freehills.com.au/people/people_4740.asp. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 02:54, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
Notability of Peter Charley
[edit]A tag has been placed on Peter Charley requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Mbisanz (talk) 19:28, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Notability of Tom Perrin
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Tom Perrin, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Tom Perrin seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Tom Perrin, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. The article Wesley College, University of Sydney has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Non-notable hall of residence. Tagged for notability for almost a year.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Stuartyeates (talk) 01:02, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
Your contributed article, Charles Herbert Locke
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Charles Herbert Locke. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Charles Herbert Locke. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Charles Herbert Locke – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.
If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Catmando999 Check out his talk page! 03:12, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
