Information icon Hello, I'm Mattythewhite. I noticed that you recently removed content from Alexis Mac Allister without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Please do not add or significantly change content without citing verifiable and reliable sources, as you did with this edit to Carlos Mac Allister. Before making any potentially controversial edits, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:37, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Patricio Mac Allister, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. If you only meant to make a test edit, please use your sandbox for that. Please don't remove statements which are backed up by reliable references. Tacyarg (talk) 17:49, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at Alexis Mac Allister, you may be blocked from editing. Herbfur (Eric, He/Him) (talk) 19:16, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. 331dot (talk) 22:14, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

LOUTSOCKing, Edit Warring and sources

[edit]

Hi Wa944 - I'm Girth Summit, a site administrator. A Scottish one, as it happens, who lived in Fife for several years so you don't need to worry about me having any anti-Scottish/anti-Fife sentiment. Now, you have been making changes to a few 'Mac Allister' articles recently, and I'm glad to see that this article does actually mention some historic links to Fife - what you need to do is to get consensus on the talk page on how to use that information. Edit warring will only get you blocked, and WP:LOUTSOCK editing through an IP will make that happen more quickly. Please also note that the Sporting News source is about Alexis, not his father - the information about Fife is very vague, for all we know it could be on his mother's side, and thus not be applicable to his father. Just engage on the talk page and talk it through with other editors. Girth Summit (blether) 14:18, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Thank you for informing me. I will further engage on the talk board and hope to add an updated section with new sources, but for the moment leaving things as so things cool off.
I didn't add any of the sources currently being mentioned as I am still working out how to do the hyperlinks and cite etc. I'm a beginner with Wikipedia editing so forgive me for anything that maybe goes against protocol. I joined just as there seems to be an effort from some to remove any links to Scotland without any source to explicitly evidence it, so I felt like I had to contribute. The funny thing is that I have distant Irish ancestry. I'm not going out my way to remove any links to Ireland - just trying to add some Scottish links.
Despite there being multiple sources, you're right about the Fife part being vague, and the same could be said for the Irish links. The fair thing to do is to mention traces to both Ireland and Scotland. I have a few new sources from Genealogical Scholars (both Scottish and Irish) of the same surname who confirm the surname origin to be Scotland, and that it carried on to Northern Ireland then to Southern Ireland. It seems to support the chronological date order of Mac Allisters linked to Antrim then Dublin in the reports that have sprung up during the World Cup, claiming to be something like 63rd 18th then 17th removed distant cousin's. I am sure there's maybe Scottish Mac Allisters who could claim the same, but they don't as it is quite ridiculous. I also have sources showing both Irish and Scottish born Mac Allisters settled in Argentina. I plan to include these in a new updated section, which hopefully can be worked on together with other users.
Anyway, all of this has inspired me to take a trip to Argentina someday soon haha!
