[edit]Hello, I'm I dream of horses. I wanted to let you know that one of your recent contributions —specifically this edit to Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology— has been undone because it appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Help desk. Thank you. [edit]If you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 16:22, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
Confusion
[edit]Based on your attempted contribution and making your username the name of an institute (as is common in places like Facebook), I believe you may be under a mistaken impression as to the purpose and use of Wikipedia. Please see WP:NOTPROMO and the rest of that page. Basically, this is an encyclopedia, like Encyclopædia Britannica or Encarta. It has articles that summarize what secondary, independent reliable sources have written about a subject. It's nothing like Facebook, where people and companies can establish a presence to communicate with consumers of whatever they are providing (e.g., goods, services, art, advocacy, education). I hope this helps. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 23:08, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
