Anu Kapoor Ranjan was born in New Delhi, India. Born to a Punjabi family, her father Kedar Kapoor, was the VP of Sita Travels and mother Janak Kapoor, a home maker.. She did her schooling from Convent of Jesus and Mary, Shimla (1976). She graduated in Psychology from Loreto College, Kolkata in 1979. She then moved to work in Los Angeles, California and worked there till her return to Mumbai in 1987..

Personal Life

Anu married Shashi Ranjan, a graduate from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune in October, 1987 and have been living in Mumbai since.. They have two daughters, Anushka and Akansha Ranjan.

The Indian Television Academy

The ITA is an endeavour to garner and galvanize the entire Work-Force of the TV Industry, in India launched on 18th July 2001. The Academy is seized of the perception that Television is capable of doing tremendous things and the Academy seeks to look after the welfare of the Television Industry, in India..They instituted the 1st ever TV Awards in the country and are now in their 13th year called The Indian Television Academy Awards..

GR8! TV Magazine

An Indian Television Academy initiative, GR8! Mag is the India’s first and only Television glossy magazine in India launched on 26th august 2013 is now in its 10th year. GR8! Publication Pvt. With an aim to honor women like nobody else has and provide them a platform to be heard and appreciated, Ms.Ranjan launched The GR8! Women Awards on International Woman’s day; 8th March 2002 and there has been no looking back since then. The award celebrates womanhood and awards women across genres and fields be it Science & technology, Banking, Law, Beauty, Indian cinema etc. Some of the most successful women of the world have been felicitated with this award. The award also witnesses performances by famous television celebrities across channels.

GR8! Women Awards - Middle East

After successfully completing nine years in India, GR8! Women Awards – Middle East was launched on 7th April 2011. The awards which are held in Dubai for three successful years now, covers awardees from various countries such Africa, Lebanon, Yemen, Palestine to name a few. Covering various award categories and entertainment by popular film and television celebrities, the evening is widely attended by individuals from all nationalities.

BETI – A movement

The NGO against female foeticide and atrocities against women was founded on 4th Feb 2007. An initiative taken by Anu Ranjan, lending her support in this cause were noted social activist, actress and Member of Parliament Ms Shabana Azmi and Ex Miss World Ms. Diana Hayden. Since its birth, beti has been associated with various events in order to create awareness and raise funds.
