Tip of the moment...
How to add hidden editor notes in an article

Have you ever needed to post an important message to all editors about an article, on the article itself, but thought it would stick out like a sore thumb and ruin the article if you did? Are you reverting many edits on an article because editors just aren't seeing the important message or special instructions on the talk page?

The solution is that you can insert hidden text in the article! That way, only the people editing the page will see your message! Here is how to insert a hidden comment:

  1. First, begin the comment by typing <!--
  2. Once you have done that, type what you need the editors to read
  3. Then, end the comment by typing -->

Once you have completed those 3 easy steps, you won't be reverting as many mistakes!

For example, the following hidden comment has been used in the Meaning of life article, in the Popular views section:

<!--Please do not add 42 in this section. It is covered under the section titled "Popular culture treatments". Thank you.-->

Some more examples of pages that have hidden messages include:

Collaboration

[edit]

Hi, it seems like you can use several tools/scripts I used for Bengali wikipedia with very little modification for your bpy-wiki. One such script uses Ganeshkbot's Indian cities database to create city articles. Since Manipuri and Bengali are very similar, you can just replace some words to use the scripts.

For an example article created by this script, please see bn:আসানসোল. I also have year and year category scripts.

Drop me a message in my talk page if you need these scripts.

Thanks

--Ragib 02:13, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Ragib Bhai,

Thanks for your offer. Yes, I do need those usefull scripts, your help, and advice for our project. আমি কি বলে আপনাকে ধন্যবাদ জানাব, ভেবে পাচ্ছি না।

Thanks a lot. --‍‍‍‍‍Usingha 05:34, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I can email you the scripts ... please send me an email (via "E-mail this user" link on the left panel of my talk/user page, so I can mail you with the code and instructions.). --Ragib 06:05, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Requested help

[edit]

Ragib told me that you were the "go to guy for Manipuri stuff" and admin of Bisnupriya wiki. Can you help me out on Pamheiba, Pitambar Charairongba, Chitsai and USer:Bakasuprman/BC ? Bakaman Bakatalk 18:07, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

--Thanks for your request. I visited those articles, and you are in right track. If I see any mistake. I will let you know. Usingha 01:09, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ching-Thang Khomba , Gaurisiam, Mantri Ananda Shai, Labeinya Chandra have all been moved to main page. I do have one issue: One source I have states that Ananda Shai is Bhagya Chandra's brother, while another states that anad is his uncle. Which one is true? Also I would appreciate if you reply on my talkpage, as I usually dont watchlist talk pages. If you have any other Kings to add to the List of Meitei kings it would help too.Bakaman Bakatalk 01:22, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

...a lot for helping out. sincerely, --Soman 14:00, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just a question: I need to know names of countries to make the articles. Would it work if I used Bangla names of countries? --Soman 14:01, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, It will work. We use Bangla/Assamese letters, and country/person names are noun. Bangla nouns are acceptable in BPY. Thanks a lot. --Usingha 16:55, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Its on my userspace, so we can make a good article before taking it to mainpage.Bakaman Bakatalk 04:46, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Its a box for adding Indian scripts. You may want to add bisnupriya. I'll ask the guy to add a function for it and I told him to get in contact with you.Bakaman 00:53, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please discuss with visiva. The computer code is greek to me, but I copied it into his existing program. Possibly ask Ganeshk (talk · contribs) as well. Just curious, is Bisnupriya more like Meitei or Bangla (in spoken terms)? Btw, please do check on Gambhir Singh and related articles, more people will learn about Manipur on en-wiki if we have real Manipuris like you adding to it.Bakaman 03:40, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Upazila stubs

[edit]

Hi - I've just noticed {{Upazila stubs}} while checking for new stub templates. This isn't quite the standard way of making new batches of articles, though I can understand why you've done it that way. The usual method is usually to make a subpage of your user page (called, say, User:Usingha/Upazilas and then using that as a template for any new articles. You couls still use substitution in the same way for actually creating the articles (by going {{subst:User:Usingha/Upazilas}} on the new page you make), but it will take it out of template space - a lot of editors aren't really happy to have one-user templates around. Also, having a template ending in "stubs" makes it look like one of the stub-sorting templates,w hich it obviously isn't. If you're willing to have this page moved to a user subpage, let me know and I'll move it for you :). Cheers - Grutness...wha? 06:24, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your information. I moved the template. I am not going use this template after I finish all Upazila articles, and that would be after this week. Thanks anyway. --Usingha 06:37, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Original Barnstar
I just found out your {{Template:Infobox of upazilas}}. Awesome. Can you do one for Dhaka Thanas as well? Your'e the best, man, you're the best. Cheers. Aditya Kabir 17:13, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Dear Aditya Kabir. It is my pleasure. Yes we can do, and I did use for Thanas also. Please look at following list:

I think one thana is missing from Dhaka City. If I miss more Thana, please let me know. For complete list please visit: Upazilas of Bangladesh. Usingha 01:17, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template

[edit]

Is {{Template:Infobox of upazilas}} a good example to learh how to do templates? It seems to link to List of Bangladeshn districts if you use the "districts" parameter - am I understanding this correctly? (and this list does not exist yet)

Here is my attempt to use the template:

{{Infobox of upazilas
| native_name = Ficticious City
| locator_position = right
| latd = 21.50
| longd = 89.97
| division_name = Sea Division
| district = Bay District
| districts = one two three
| population_as_of = 1991
| population_total = 10
| population_density =
| area_total = 476.66
| area_telephone =
| postal_code =
| footnotes =
| coastal_line = 5200
}}

A learning experience for GB 23:32, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Graeme Bartlett, thanks for your question. This Template is only for Bangladesh Upazilas & Thannas. If anybody wants to extend for Districts and Divisions of Bangladesh, it is possible. If you want to learn, off course you may, but this Template is extremely complicated, so you better to start with easy one. You said list does not exist, but we have all list following:

I will be very happy to help you with {{Template:Infobox of upazilas}}. Thanks a lot. Usingha 01:17, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There must be a misunderstanding here

[edit]

Good job... as an attempt. There are no Thanas of Dhaka district as such. Thanas are delegated to municipal and metropolitan areas, at the district level these are upazillas. The difference is quite simple - upazillas are administrative units under an upazilla parishad (upazilla committee), while thans are police precincts, often overlapped by multiple wards, which is the smallest administrative unit in urban areas. So, naturally the same template would not apply to both Barguna Upazilla and Muhammadpur Thana. May be you could try using a map of Dhaka, instead of Bangladesh and call it Thanas of Dhaka.

Besides, I guess, you're working on a dated list of Dhaka thanas. (I wanted to check, but the link to the site is not working). For a real list check the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Website (Almost all government sites in Bangladesh end with .gov, not .org or something)

Among other erros that I have noticed so far - the Dhanmondi Thana article uses data applicable to Dhamrai Upazilla (they are separate entities). I have created and wrote for two thanas of Dhaka already (before your amazing efforts started realizing) - Shahbag (which is not fetured as thana on the list available to you) and Gulshan (Dhaka). You may want to check them. Please, do not start integrating the data you have immediately, because the source may be either dated or unreliable. Cheers. Aditya Kabir 07:08, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your information. You are right, my data based on 1991 Census. If you have latest data please provide me, I will update. I know all upazilas are thanas, but all thanas are not upazila (in Dhaka City, Khulna City and Chittagong City). I will fix any error. The web site I included before (http://www.bangladeshgov.org) moved to new address: http://www.bangladesh.gov.bd/, and it is working for map links, but not for data. I was sure those datas were from Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, which also moved to new address http://www.bbs.gov.bd/, but no data available yet. Thanks again.Usingha 08:42, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Labelled map

[edit]

Looks very nice, indeed. Only that, it shows only 21 districts while Dhaka has probably 33 of them or something. And, one more thing (I don't know if I am asking for too much) - can you make this map, and the thanas on it work and look like the upazilla map (may be put into a than infobox as well, for that you may even use the one I tried to create). I myself have no knowledge of the codes involved. So, you'd know what's possible. To check the position of all the thanas, take help from the Metropoliotan Police site, it's the most updated online source. Aditya Kabir 05:26, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • P.S. The updated stats on Bangladesh may not be available online, the source is the Statistical Yearbook, published by the Bureau of Statistics

block on bpy.wp for unknown reason

[edit]

Hi Usingha. Trying to create an account for myself and my bot SieBot, I found to my surprise that my IP address (static ADSL) had been blocked on bpy.wp. I have no idea why. The block log for 213.84.127.221 says Inserting nonsense/gibberish into pages. As far as I know I have not made any edits on bpy.wp before. Would it be possible to unblock my IP address and/or give me some more insight in what the offending action would have been? The edit logs for 213.84.127.221 are empty. Obviously I'm not able to ask you this on bpy.wp. Thanks for your reply. Siebrand 16:53, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your question. Some one from your IP created a new page called "হমিলদুৱার:তথ্য বারো প্রযুক্তি/মিলপা" and inserted nonsense text. Please check following picture link carefully, and bottom of the picture you will see your IP and nonsense text next to it. We are very strict on any spam, nonsense text or any vandal. If you can prove that was not by you, I will unblock you. Picture link. Usingha 02:50, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, that does look like an edit of mine, although I do not know in which content I made it. It looks like I created a page with {{delete}} on it. I cannot read which month it was. Please consider the edit made in good faith and thank you for unblocking the IP address. Siebrand 17:21, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have been missing you, both as a great tireless editor and a fantastic template creator. I hope you'd me more available this time. Bangladesh needs you on the English Wikipedia, as well as the Bishnupuri Wiki. Please, nudge me on my talk page. Aditya Kabir 14:41, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I must admit first that I haven't been able to take your great work forward. I began once and done some work on Abhaynagar Upazila. But, so far that's about all I did. May be since you are back my guilt will get me back to that project (in fact, what do you think of starting a sub-project within the Bangladesh project to cover these Upazilas?). And, I wanted to talk to you about the Dhaka Thana infobox. I got some observations and ideas I'd like to share, and if you want we may be able to pull in some more people into working on it. Finally, one favor - can you take a look at Template:Private Universities of Bangladesh and Template:Public Universities of Bangladesh? I don't think the names should be numbered, no one does that here. If you agree, may be you can lend a hand in removing the numbers (I can't do that myself, because I'm afraid that would get me into another very silly and pointless edit-war with User:NAHID, a user who keeps following me around to undo whatever I do). Cheers. Aditya Kabir 06:44, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Back again? I see that you're back again. Can we, please... please... please... get back to the Dhaka Thana locator map? Aditya(talkcontribs) 22:28, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Forgive me

[edit]

I have deprecated Wikipedia:WikiProject History of Bangladesh and made it Wikipedia:WikiProject Bangladesh/History Workgroup. I also have mass migrated the participants from the former project to the new workgroup. May be I was a little too bold here. Forgive me for doing this without consultation. The move was a part of the effort to rehash the entire Bangladesh project. If you and other participants agree, the next step should be deleting the previous page. Hopefully, The new workgroup would improve the level of activity related to coordinating our efforts. Please, respond to my talk page. Aditya (talkcontribs) 21:54, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A. K. Faezul Huq

[edit]

Usingha, someone has been trying to vandalize the article on A. K. Faezul Huq. Truth is, Faezul Huq, in his active years, never acknowledged the so-called second wife (Marium Begum), or her children (Raju and Ripa) claiming to be his. At least we should know about this. However, they have been successful in impressing the press and media to publish their names on websites and newspapers, television programs, etc.

Moreover, Faezul Huq had registered number of complains with Gulshan Thana Police Station accusing Marium Begum, Raju, and Ripa of defaming my father various times, and of various crimes like blackmail, threat, etc. Those documents are still with the police under investigation. Please protect the article on my father from further vandalism. Thank you. The Minister 17:56, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I'd like to draw your attention to Bangladesh portal. I have tried to address the concerns in earlier peer review and checked the portal against Featured portal criteria. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:52, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
