License tagging for Image:Stonecold.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Stonecold.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 07:10, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Warren Brothers

[edit]

I noticed that the new image was removed by User:3bulletproof16 because that user thought the image was copyrighted. I just thought I'd let you know. TenPoundHammer 23:55, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Dwight_yoakam.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 06:46, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvios

[edit]

Files that are uploaded directly from cameras usually have Metadata info on their page [1]. Images that are taken from websites, however, do not have this info. (See Image:Stonecold.JPG *obviously not taken by you*, Image:Warrenbrothers.jpg, and Image:Jimmy_wayne.jpg)-- bulletproof 3:16 02:11, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Any explanation as to why I found the exact same image on a PWI magazine?-- bulletproof 3:16 02:18, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, but it would certainly be appreciated if you would upload your photos directly from your camera next time instead of uploading them to another site first. -- bulletproof 3:16 02:22, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It did nothing of the sort. Its just that we've recently been detecting an increased amount of copyright violations on images in articles with users claiming that their images were self-taken until it is discovered they were really copyrighted, not released into the public domain, and taken from another website. Wikipedia policy states that fair use (copyrighted) images should never be used if there is a free (un-copyrighted) image available. This is so that Wikipedia doesn't end up getting sued by the true owner of the images. Users who violate this policy end up getting blocked also. -- bulletproof 3:16 02:36, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked

[edit]

Because you have been removing tags from images without resolving the underlying problem, I have blocked you. Your actions are placing Wikipedia in legal jeopardy and must not continue. Please do not upload any more images missing mandatory information which, for fair-use images, includes a detailed hand-written fair-use rationale for each use of the image on the Wikipedia. --Yamla 15:59, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Danielle Peck.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Danielle Peck.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 16:10, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Chrisyoung.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Chrisyoung.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:10, 22 April 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 16:10, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Styleswikipedia.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Styleswikipedia.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 16:10, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From the Editor

Welcome to the inaugural edition of the WikiProject Professional wrestling newsletter! I hope this will be a good source of news to those people interested in what's happening around our pro wrestlimg community. I plan to release it every Sunday.

This newsletter will just be a way to get the community announcements to people who don't have the time to check the mesageboards, as well that to those just curious about the news. The newsleter will consist of a project news section (to do with what's happening on Wikipedia), and a current events section (relating to news in the "real world"). The newslette will also contain the Collaboration of the Week announcement.

That's all. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please post them at this talk page.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
