Request for peer review
[edit]The article Clinical psychology has just been listed for peer review. You are invited to lend your editing eyes to see if it needs any modifications, great or small, before it is submitted to the Featured Article review. Then head on over to the peer review page and add your comments, if you are so inspired. Thank you!! Psykhosis 20:35, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hey there. Thanks for the heads up. I think I've already read it but I don't remember how long ago. I've got all of the Psychology articles linked in a word file in an order I wanted to read them (there are roughly 500-600) and it seems I've passed the Clinical Psych article. I'll look it over again and rate it as best as I know how. Thanks again. --Ubiq 08:36, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
"Cite web" template
[edit]I had a lot of trouble when using this template at first too, for the list of atheists revamp. I got the hang eventually though.
There is no author field. The fields for the author are last for the last name, first for the first name, and authorlink for the title of the author's article if they have one. For a staff writer, I use the last field and leave the others empty.
The accessdate field doesn't have the date put in normally. The input has to be in yyyy-mm-dd format, which I think is the European standard format (but I'm not sure).
So, the one you were trying to do, I'd set like this:
Hope I helped. ~Switch t c g 08:31, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
By the way, if you're unsure of how to use a template, you can normally type in Template:[TEMPLATENAME] in the searh box on the left and push Go. The link for this template is Template:Cite web. The main pages for templates, especially ones that are used often, normally have guides for usage, and full copies of all fields that can be copied-and-pasted into an article. I do this all the time for Template:Infobox musical artist, because I can never remember the fields for it. Cheers. ~Switch t c g 08:39, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- You're my hero. I'll start using that one. --Ubiq 03:05, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- You're more than welcome. Thanks so much for the barnstar! ~Switch t c g 04:28, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit]I appreciate your saying that. (Btw, it's "she" - but I'm not offended!) Tvoz | talk 09:46, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, haha. Sorry about that. I'm usually pretty good about using gender neutral wording.
- On another note, that article is a bit tough to defend from some of the political vultures out there. Thankfully, there are some sensible editors (like you and bbatsell) who keep an eye on it. Keep up the good work! --Ubiq 09:51, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Hakeem
[edit]I agree his faith is important, that's why I added the quote from his book and expanded it a little. I think though that the two sentences are saying the same thing except the second one does explain it better. Basically what we're trying to say is he didn't eat or drink in the daytime in February but still played well. There should be some way we can say that in one or two sentences. How about this:
Olajuwon was still recognized as one of the league's elite centers despite his strict observance of Ramadan (e.g. abstaining from food and drink during daylight hours in February), which occurred during virtually every season of his career and is usually a handicap for Muslim athletes. Olajuwon was noted as sometimes playing better during the month, and in 1995 he was named NBA Player of the Month in February.
I think it tightens the wording a little. Of course some people don't like e.g. Quadzilla99 22:30, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
- Ramadan doesn't always occur during February. It did however, in 1995, and it's usually about 29-30 calendar days, so I think this would be good:
- Olajuwon was still recognized as one of the league's elite centers despite his strict observance of Ramadan (e.g., abstaining from food and drink during daylight hours for about a month's time), which occurred during virtually every season of his career and is usually a handicap for Muslim athletes . Olajuwon was noted as sometimes playing better during the month, and in 1995 he was named NBA Player of the Month in February, even though Ramadan began on 1 February of that year (refs).
- Tell me what you think of that. The part in parenthesis may be a little too long but I'm not sure. I too, struggled with trying to reduce those two parts into one so it didn't seem so redundant, but felt like I was working on trying to do too much at once. So thanks for taking on that task. e.g. should work fine, as I don't think the information after it merits its own sentence.
- FYI, I'm going to add some stats/records pertaining to his steals/blocks over his career below where it says he's 7th all-time in steals. --Ubiq 23:06, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, that's fine. I was under the mistaken impression that Ramadan was an event that took place in February every year. Could also be:
- "Olajuwon was still recognized as one of the league's elite centers despite his strict observance of Ramadan (e.g., abstaining from food and drink during daylight hours for about a month's time), which occurred during virtually every season of his career. Olajuwon was noted as sometimes playing better during the month, and in 1995 he was named NBA Player of the Month in February, even though Ramadan began on 1 February of that year (refs)." You could eliminate: "and is usually a handicap for Muslim athletes." Because I think it's self evident that's what we're getting at. Quadzilla99 20:37, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Obama FAR
[edit]Hi there, I am just writing to inform you that we have apparently been conducting the Barack Obama FAR incorrectly. Your vote of "keep" or "remove" should be struck out and reinserted when the nomination moves into FARC (per the directions at WP:FAR). I was just notified of this myself; please see the bottom of the FAR page for more. Thanks, Happyme22 (talk) 22:55, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

The Plague of Locust
[edit]I agree that most of what User:Thegoodlocust posts is disruptive and unhelpful, but not all of it is. Some of his comments and contributions have been important in helping me to understand what the anti-Obama crowd are complaining about, and that understanding is essential when trying to find a compromise that will help to build a consensus. The same applies to (->wince<-) User:Andyvphil and User:Kossack4Truth. I think what they are all saying is (for the most part) fundamentally wrong or just plain stupid, but I need to hear their points-of-view to make sure I approach my edits as neutrally as possible. So I'm against trying to find some sort of punitive measure to silence TheGoodLocust - besides, we have one or two administrators who keep an eye on things and I'm sure they will step in if things really get out of hand. -- Scjessey (talk) 19:01, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
3RR support
[edit]Thank you for your kind support in my current 3RR difficulties. It looks as if I'm going to have to do less editing of Barack Obama from now on if my edits are going to come under this much scrutiny. -- Scjessey (talk) 02:33, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- An administrator declined Andy's 3RR report, but he's actually arguing about it: Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/3RR#User:Scjessey reported by Andyvphil (talk) (Result: No action) -- Scjessey (talk) 13:38, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Oh dear
[edit]Sorry about that! I was trying to fix them one at a time, and also trying to make sure that they're consistently linked. I'll happily let you do the honors, though! —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 06:33, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- Basically what I did was fix them all at once using search, but each time I tried, I saw an edit conflict. It's happened 4 times now :( Thanks for your help in any case, we have almost all of the recommendations on the FAR thing completed. --Ubiq (talk) 06:35, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- Using a global search-and-replace makes much more sense than my hunt-and-peck effort — sorry about getting in your way! —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 06:37, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- Haha. You're totally fine. It's finally done and didn't take too long. Thanks again for your help. --Ubiq (talk) 06:40, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- No problem. I corrected one goof resulting from the search-and-replace: for a minute the article referred to "the The New York Times Best Seller hardcover list" — perhaps you were listening to The The? :^) —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 06:44, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Consensuses
[edit]ROFL! Is that even a word? Awesome. Seriously though, can you believe the sheer arrogant disregard of this guy? -- Scjessey (talk) 17:20, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- It is! I'm a little bothered by his constant attempts to saturate that article with mentions of Muslim/Islam in any place he can. There are standards for BLPs, and one of them isn't "Make sure to exploit people's xenophobia." Sadly, I don't think there's much we can do but revert. I don't think filing an ANI citing all his edits would get him much but a slap on the wrist. On the bright side, having someone edit the article like that certainly does keep you sharp. --Ubiq (talk) 17:35, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

- Also, "consensuses" reminds me of Hobbitses from the LOTR films. Wasn't Gollum played by a dude called Andy? -- Scjessey (talk) 18:25, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Ubiq. My name is Mike Lyons and I am a doctoral student at Indiana University. I am conducting research on the writing and editing of high traffic “current events” articles on Wikipedia. I have noticed in the talk page archives at Barack Obama that you have contributed to the editing or maintenance of the article. I was hoping you would agree to fill out a brief survey about your experience. This study aims to help expand our thinking about collaborative knowledge production. Believe me I share your likely disdain for surveys but your participation would be immensely helpful in making the study a success. A link to the survey is included below.

You are now a Reviewer
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. —DoRD (talk) 12:47, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Wikipedia Ambassador Program is looking for Campus Ambassadors in Houston
[edit]Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you are listed as a Wikipedian connected with the University of Houston. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Wikipedia assignments at another Houston school, which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester. The role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.
Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).
If you live in Houston and you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone else from the area who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:32, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
