DYK for NML Cygni
[edit]On 30 August 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article NML Cygni, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the red supergiant NML Cygni is the largest star currently known, at about 1,650 times the Sun's diameter? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/NML Cygni. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

[edit]Please do not use styles that are unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles. There is a Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. Thank you. We do not simplify articles like that, your formatting changes are awkward, plus the actual article is called Mobile phone form factor, I've never used the term "style" used in this context ViperSnake151 Talk 14:49, 21 October 2013 (UTC)
Form factor
[edit]Hello there! Please, let's discuss the issues with editing out "form factor" as a term. If might be gramatically incorrect, but it is used in many places around Wikipedia and elsewhere — please have a look at articles Computer form factor, Harddrive#Form factors, Disc form factors#Form factors, Form factor (mobile phones), Small form factor etc. Editing it out in one place would just create a confusion, and "configuration" isn't such a great replacement IMHO.
Thoughts? Please, let's discuss. Thank you. -- Dsimic (talk) 17:52, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

Changing restrictive relative pronouns "that" to descriptive relative pronoun "which"
[edit]Hi, I'm sure you've made the edits to Asynchronous Transfer Mode, DNS spoofing, and Digital subscriber line access multiplexer and a number of others that I aren’t bothered about, in good faith. However, there is a difference between the restrictive and descriptive relative pronouns and the way they should be used. Basically, you need a comma before a descriptive relative pronoun and not before a restrictive one, and many of us, but not all, habitually use “that” for the restrictive and “which” for the descriptive. So your changes, in this regard, look, at least arguably, like a bit of a crusade to reverse that policy, or worse still, vandalism. Fowler's Modern English Usage (pages 634 to 640, in the 2002 reprint of the 1st ed.) should be of some help on this subject.
There may be some merit in the removal of some of the “that”s, as being wordy. But I’m not sorting through those. So I’ve just reverted the edits.

Thanks for the thanks, and you're welcome.
Was just thinking about stuff, and I thought, the nearest I ever got to New York New York was seeing the New York Dolls when they played York University : the story at the time was that it wasn't on the schedule, but the band insisted, because they felt there was/should be some connection between York and New York. Must have been sometime in the early-mid 1970s. I'm struggling to remember where abouts it was on campus (slept since then), but think it might've been Derwent Collage Dining hall. But then much of the 70s is fuzzy - if you remember it well, you weren't really there.

It took me a minute to figure out what you were getting at. I think it also includes beautiful isolated hotels in the Iranian desert (1974), or mountain-top estates (1965).
- Yeah but those were crappy remakes of the original film, which was heavily sanitized anyway. Quis separabit? 21:49, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
You do know what the original title was, I assume. Also - and only because you 'piqued my interest' in seeing 'my films (heh-heh), I'm on YouTube, and they've a few of them, on - including a Russian version (English subs), which several people are saying it's 'the best.'
Not gonna watch it tonight. Every night - after I take my sleeping meds (chronic insomnia), I curl up, and watch an 'off the beaten path' film; tonight, it's Stalker (a Russian film, by the man who made the original Solaris (beats the G. Clooney version by a mile - so, what else is new?) and, then - if I'm still awake, I watch an episode of one of my top 3 fave TV series - Danger Man.
- There have been numerous films made. Of course, I know the original title -- it's included in the And Then There Were None article, and why it can never be used again. I actually just used Ten Little Indians in my opening comment to you, "RE: UN Owen:" because it was faster (only three words, instead of five), but in the long run I haven't saved any time anyway. Undone edits
[edit]Hi, i've undone two of your edits which had put digits instead of spelled out numbers. According to our MOS ~ MOS:NUMERAL ~ we write out numbers under ten and others if they can be written in one or two words. Happy days, LindsayHello 13:16, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
- I hate to appear to be picking on you, but i have reverted several other of your recent edits for the same reason or because you seem not to understand English grammar quite as well as you think and have introduced errors as you claimed to be fixing the grammar. I am going to stop now, for a bit, because i don't want you to feel persecuted, but i would urge you to take care with what you edit, and not to do so against the MOS or contrary to grammatical practice. Happy days, LindsayHello 13:31, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
- Again, UNOwenNYC, i'm afraid i have undone one of your edits. Please take greater care to understand what you are doing and edit correctly. Your edits and style
[edit]Hi UNOwenNYC. I have found again the necessity to change or undo some edits which you have made. Please, can you not read and understand WP:NUMERAL before you change any more numbers, as you clearly are not following its directions. I would also suggest that your grasp of grammar is not as strong as you think, as i have found it necessary to undo several grammatical errors which you have introduced. Finally, may i suggest that you not vent your apparent anger in edit summaries as it doesn't reflect well on you; it's hard to take seriously a user who shouts (ALL CAPS is viewed as shouting) about the inability of some people to write while making errors of their own. Happy days, LindsayHello 08:58, 20 July 2019 (UTC)
I don't understand why you persistently make edits such as this when it has been explained to you, repeatedly, that such edits contradict Wikipedia's Manual of Style regarding numbers. @LindsayH: has been extremely patient in outlining and reiterating why your edits are being reverted, yet you continue regardless. This cannot continue. Please ensure that you adhere to long-standing consensus moving forward, regardless of your personal opinion as to which number formatting should be used.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 21:26, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
- If you continue making ALL CAPS edit summaries containing personal attacks, you will be blocked. Wikipedia is a collaborative environment and civility is policy.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 17:47, 8 August 2019 (UTC)
- And you're still purposefully ignoring WP:NUMERAL to change articles to your preferred style against consensus. This, combined with your lack of communication with other editors and your uncivil edit summaries, is unacceptable in a collaborative project.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 16:19, 9 August 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, but a recent edit of yours to the page Aristarchus (crater) has an edit summary that appears to be inaccurate or inappropriate. The summaries are helpful to people browsing an article's history, so it is important that you use edit summaries that accurately tell other editors what you did. Feel free to use the sandbox to make test edits. Please do not give an edit summary saying that you are fixing grammar when your change is not a grammatical one. Changing number formats is not grammar. Also, the change did not seem to be an improvement. DanielRigal (talk) 21:32, 26 July 2019 (UTC)

Edits and edit summaries at Coureur des bois and elsewhere
[edit]You recently made a lot of grammtical changes which were in areas that are at most a matter of personal choice. But then in your edit summaries you used that as a basis to go on an unjustified insult binge agaist the people who built the article, in essence claiming that the previous version was so terrible that that insult binge was justified. You also included a rant that the Wikipedia "overseers" should be stopping people without degrees from editing Wikipedia, and that the "overseers" don't have degrees in what's correct and that you do. I noticed that you also did this at other articles. That is rude and uncalled for. You also appeared to conflict with yourself by saying in essence, that the prose was so bad that you suspect that it was copied from a published textbook. (??) Hi UNOwenNYC,
A couple of weeks ago, we invited you to take the Community Insights Survey. It is the Wikimedia Foundation’s annual survey of our global communities. Your voice matters to us.

Bob's Big Boy: insulting edit summary
[edit]I appreciate your efforts to improve the Bob's Big Boy article, and I agree that article shouldn't veer off on the Toluca Lake unit's architect's professional portfolio. The article was originally copied from that unit's web site, which included puffery about the architect, Wayne McAllister. Correcting these problems, the McAllister content became pedantic.
A few edits are also required in the history section of the article.
Having said that – while Wikipedia encourages bold editing, it also expects editors to use a positive, civil, respectful tone in all interactions. WP:CIV, WP:EQ Edit summaries should not be aggressive nor snide. WP:ESDONTS It appears that others have expressed the same or similar concerns to you in the past. I invite you to use the talk page to directly critique the content and grammar, and do so in a pleasant, cooperative manner. Thank you, βox73 (৳alk) 08:31, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
Continued editing
[edit]I have reverted you on brittle star because you (still!) don't understand how numbers work, in addition your edits created grammatical errors, rather than correcting them as your edit summaries stated. I beg of you, please read some of the links you have been given above, and try to understand that we work as a collaborating community, not in competition with each other. I fear that, if you do not start taking some of these things on board, you will end up with your editing privileges revoked, and that would be a shame. Happy days, LindsayHello 10:49, 21 September 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Numbers
[edit]Numbers under ten are almost always written out in full; i have, therefore, reverted your edit to "Free as a Bird" as you introduced an error. Please feel free to ask if you have any trouble understanding this. Happy days, LindsayHello 22:00, 13 January 2020 (UTC)
Block notice

. Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 22:07, 13 January 2020 (UTC)Your recent change to compiler actually made the grammar worse, since your change implied a single type (is or 's) "there is many types. . ." Please don't make ungrammatical changes and label them as 'grammar'. Murray Langton (talk) 21:32, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
zodiacal
[edit]If you consult the Oxford English Dictionary or Collins English Gem Dictionary you will see that 'zodiacal' is indeed a word (the adjective form of 'zodiac'). I note that many other editors have commented on your problems with spelling and/or grammar. Perhaps you could check more carefully before making changes. Murray Langton (talk) 21:50, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
- In The Most Holy Trinosophia you objected strongly to 'zodiacal' with the following description of your change:
- "Fixed grammar; there's NO SUCH FORM of 'zodiac' as 'zodiacal'. The dearth of grammar, basic spelling, rudimentary English education is RAMPANT in Wikipedia".
- Since 'zodiacal' is indeed a word, do you think you should apologise for such an incorrect and rather impolite remark? Murray Langton (talk) 16:32, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
thus
[edit]In a number of Wikipedia pages you have rejected the word 'thus' as being archaic. I have consulted 4 different paper dictionaries, plus several online dictionaries, and none of them label 'thus' as archaic. Could you provide some reference(s) to indicate why you think it is archaic? Murray Langton (talk) 17:06, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been or will be reverted.
- If you are engaged in an article content dispute with another editor, please discuss the matter with the editor at their talk page, or the article's talk page, and seek consensus with them. Alternatively, you can read Wikipedia's dispute resolution page, and ask for independent help at one of the relevant noticeboards.
- If you are engaged in any other form of dispute that is not covered on the dispute resolution page, please seek assistance at Wikipedia's Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.
Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continued disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. Thank you. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 16:04, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
I have reverted you at Baby Huey & the Babysitters, because once again you are making ungrammatical or unuseful edits, as i am not the only person to point out. Please, pay attention to what you do, to the many links you have been given which can help with your editing, and follow our style guidelines; happy days, LindsayHello 17:22, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
Thomas Eboli
[edit]In Thomas Eboli you changed 'two' to '2', despite having been told many times that such changes are not in accordance with the Wikipedia Manual of style, specifically MOS:NUMERAL. Do you actually read your talk page, or do you just carry on regardless? Murray Langton (talk) 17:51, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
Carlo Gambino
[edit]In a recent edit to Carlo Gambino you described the changes as 'added links'. But the actual changes were to remove three instances of 'however'. Giving a completely false description of your editing is effectively telling lies. Please refrain. Murray Langton (talk) 18:02, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
