Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Tylerbotts, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was User:Tylerbotts/sandbox, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Tylerbotts/sandbox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Hello Tylerbotts. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to User:Tylerbotts/sandbox, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Tylerbotts. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Tylerbotts|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Drm310 🍁 (talk) 19:39, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Drm310, I am not being directly or indirectly compensated for these edits. Thank you Tylerbotts (talk) 21:19, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So you are saying that you have no affiliation with Spiceology at all? Please be aware that you do not have to be paid specifically to edit Wikipedia. Being employed by the company is enough by itself to trigger the mandatory disclosures set out by the paid editing policy. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 21:43, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, sorry, I misunderstood. I do work for Spiceology, but I do not make any money for creating an article Tylerbotts (talk) 21:54, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As their employee, you are considered to be a paid editor by Wikipedia's definition. Please make use of the {{paid}} template to make a formal disclosure on your userpage (User:Tylerbotts). I can help you if you require assistance doing this. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 22:06, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As well, you should be aware that a company isn't entitled to have a Wikipedia article just because it exists. We require that a company meet Wikipedia's notability criteria for companies, as evidenced by having significant coverage in multiple reliable sources that are independent of the company itself. We don't accept self-published sources that lack editorial independence from the subject; this includes company-authored press releases, blogs, message forums and social media. A company's own website can be considered as a valid primary source to verify basic facts and figures, but it won't count toward establishing notability. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 22:13, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thanks for getting back to me! I agree that not all companies should have a Wikipedia article just because they exist, however I feel like this one is actually interesting enough to be included since Spiceology has essentially invented something noteworthy. I will make use of the paid template, thanks for the help with that. Lastly, do you feel that our citations are not strong enough to be included? Tylerbotts (talk) 17:06, 23 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The {{paid}} template belongs on your userpage, not in the sandbox. I've moved it for you.
Let's review the sources you have used so far and how they line up against WP:ORGCRIT:
  1. Inc.com - basic listing, not significant coverage. ☒N
  2. Crowd Cow - interview with the founder, primary source. ☒N
  3. Spiceology - company website, primary source. ☒N
  4. King5 - brief mention, not significant coverage. ☒N
  5. News Direct - press release, self-published source. ☒N
  6. Brewbound - press release, self-published source. ☒N
  7. National Kidney Foundation - press release; even if Spiceology didn't write the content, the NKF has a conflict of interest with Spiceology. ☒N
None of your sources have the required combination of significant coverage, reliability (an established reputation for fact-checking and editorial oversight) and independence (having no personal, political or financial interest in the subject). Therefore based on them, the company has not met the notability criteria for companies.
In addition, the language used is unduly promotional and not written from the required neutral point of view:
"Spiceology started with a chef-centric approach, providing inventive and unusual flavor combinations"
"The Spiceology team continues to release innovative flavors"
This underscores the peril of writing when you have a conflict of interest. You will find it difficult to recognize the promotional nature of your writing because you have a vested interest in the subject. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 18:10, 23 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for moving the paid template for me. I will look for stronger citations. Would you suggest having a neutral party take a look at the content and resubmitting here or should it be through a different article / user? Tylerbotts (talk) 19:58, 23 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
First of all, you seem to be splitting your efforts between User:Tylerbotts/sandbox and Draft:Spiceology. The draft space is the preferred location for articles in development. I would consolidate your content in the draft, and then blank your sandbox.
You can then submit the draft for review using the "submit draft" button at the top of the draft, and a neutral reviewer will provide feedback. However you will still be expected to do the heavy lifting as far as locating reliable third-party sources.--Drm310 🍁 (talk) 20:12, 23 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there, have you had a chance to review the latest iteration? The copy is much more objective than previous drafts. Please let me know, thank you Tylerbotts (talk) 21:44, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
