Spiceology is a United States-based company that creates, markets and distributes spices and seasoning blends to retailers, grocers, the foodservice industry, and directly to consumers.
Their company has consistently been named the fastest-growing independently-owned spice company in the U.S. by Inc 5000[1] since 2018.
History
[edit]The company was founded in Spokane, Washington in 2013 by Executive Chef Pete Taylor[2] and food blogger Heather Scholten, aka, Farmgirl Gourmet. Spiceology started with a chef-centric approach, providing inventive and unusual flavor combinations to home cooks and restaurants.
The first product in the company’s line of Signature Blends - spice blend flavors specially formulated by Spiceology - was Smoky Honey Habanero [3], a spice blend made of honey granules, brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, and habanero powder.
Spiceology now offers man than 300 small-batch, fresh-ground spices and ingredients like chiles, herbs, salts, confections, fruit and vegetable powders, and modernist ingredients.
Companies like Williams-Sonoma took notice of these chef-formulated spice blends and partnered with Spiceology to create a line of white label seasonings. This allowed Spiceology to officially launch its foodservice program in 2014, providing more chefs and restaurants with their fresh ingredients and blends.
Signature Flavors and Blends
[edit]The Spiceology team continues to release innovative flavors as part of their Signature Blends collection, including Maui Wowee, a Hawaiian Teriyaki blend meat rub and Greek Freak, a savory Mediterranean blend. In 2022, they added Blackberry Balsamic, a sweet and tangy all-purpose blend.
Spiceology has since developed unique seasoning lines for national chains, including Mod Pizza and Shake Shack, and popular venues such as Climate Pledge Arena[4] and Lumen Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks.
Partnerships and Collaborations
[edit]Spiceology has partnered with several top chefs, BBQ Influencers and brands to develop a wide variety of seasonings, including official collaborations with Hell’s Kitchen[5], New Belgium Brewing[6], Maker’s Mark 46, MeatEater, Chef Jet Tila, Chef Kwame Onwuachi, and Chef Alvin Cailan.
In 2020, they teamed with the National Kidney Foundation to develop a line of salt-free seasonings[7] and added the American Heart Association to the line in 2021 with the release of four new salt-free flavors where a portion of the proceeds were donated to both organizations to help people live healthier lives.
