Licnensing
[edit]Hi Tuck! Regarding your recently uploaded website screenshots (such as File:Epicurious1996.jpg), I'd like to clear up a few things regarding their licenses. You selected that they're in the public domain, due to them being publicly accessible websites. Being publically accessible does not mean public domain. If I create a creative work, by default I own the copyright to that work (including a website). I can choose to display that work, public or not. That doesn't mean people are free to use the work as they wish, even if they can access it. Public domain refers to a work which no longer has a copyright owner. It is free for anyone to use, for any purpose, with or without attribution. Public domain works typically come about when a work's copyright expires; or, someone can choose to release their own creative works in the public domain.
If you'd like to use copyrighted website screenshots in articles, they need to meet our non-free content criteria. To see how to appropriately set up the licensing for a non-free image on Wikipedia, you may wish to look at File:Twitter homepage.png. I'm busy today, but I'll also come back and take a look later. Thanks! ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 17:06, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
- Clearly, I'm a little new to this. These are just screenshots of the content, and I didn't see any options in the upload tools to designate that. What's the best way to handle, would love your input. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tuck7500 (talk • contribs) 17:28, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
- Not a problem - we all start somewhere! When you go to upload a non-free file via Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard, you would select the "This is a copyrighted, non-free work, but I believe it is Fair Use." option. None of the options provided after that pertain to website screenshots, so you would select "some other kind of non-free work" and select "Website screenshot" from the provided dropdown menu.
- On another note, when you reply to another editor on a talk page, no need for creating a new section. You can place your reply directly below the other editor's comment, and indent your answer using a colon. Also be sure to sign using four tildes (
~~~~
). If you have any more questions, feel free to let me know. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 18:58, 24 May 2015 (UTC)- Thanks so much. I'll correct that in the coming days. Tuck7500 (talk) 15:48, 25 May 2015 (UTC)
- Again, thanks for your help. Getting back to this now and have a couple follow up questions. I'd like to delete these images from the system and reupload correctly. Is there an easy way for me to do that? Also, you very clearly outlined the process and correct selections for screenshots - how about the Epicurious logo? Is there a dropdown option in the uploader for that, or another selection I should pick? Thanks again Tuck7500 (talk) 02:24, 5 June 2015 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:2007 epicurious Homepage.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:2007 epicurious Homepage.jpg, which you've attributed to Conde Nast. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. January (talk) 15:19, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Image2Text
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Image2Text requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. reddogsix (talk) 01:38, 14 October 2016 (UTC)
