Why delete media history?

I saw you tagged a bunch of articles on media history has being non-notable and unencyclopedic. I'm not sure what the Wikiocracy has against media history, but it is an important part of our culture. I think it's incredibly telling of the institutional biases Wikipedia editors have.

Can you please elaborate on what makes these articles non-notable and unencyclopedic?

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Chinese Democracy Album Cover.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Chinese Democracy Album Cover.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:09, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Regarding your change to the Candy Cane article - http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Candy_cane&diff=256705966&oldid=256688264 - Please do not remove entire sections without even stating a reason. I have reverted that part of your edit. If you feel the section warrants removal I would like you to please start a discussion on it on the discussions page, or move the content to a better location. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Combat Zone (disambiguation), and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Combat Zone. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 20:10, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content from Bob Dole. When removing text, please specify a reason in the edit summary and discuss edits that are likely to be controversial on the article's talk page. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the text has been restored, as you can see from the page history. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Please don't forget to provide an edit summary, as you forgot on your recent edit to Anarchist Bookfair. Thank you. Skomorokh 20:14, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

What would you suggest cutting in the plot? (Personally, I go back and forth between thinking that section is too long and thinking that it's necessary to cover a book of its kind. Oh well.) If you wouldn't mind, could you add some suggestions at Talk:Anathem? Thanks! Wyatt Riot (talk) 13:05, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Your user page

Dear Trivialist, you've been around Wikipedia for 18 months, and you average 100 edits per month. I have two gentle suggestions: (1) write something on your userpage. Anything, so that your nom de plume will no longer be shown in red; (2) please use edit summaries, which help the rest of us monitor edits. Keep up the good work and happy editing. 13:18, 11 February 2009 (UTC) Stan

Agree with both points. Six months later and we see zero on your user page. Jusdafax (talk) 04:14, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Microsoft Most Valuable Professional

Hi, you posted notability and peacock tags on the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional article. This is a subject that has come up in the past. Have you read the top of the discussion (dating from 2004) in the article's Talk page? The Microsoft award program is notable enough. There are thousands of MVPs that do great volunteer work, some dating back to the early 1990's. As per peacock, we may disagree on this a little but I'd like clarification on what sentence/paragraph leads you to place this tag. I'd like to improve the article if you think it's necessary, as a frequent WP editor as a past MVP. There are other links that could be added, but did not want to overwhelm a short article with too many references. Thanks for your attention. -- Alexf(talk) 12:08, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Why did you remove the info about DIC Entertainment merging with Cookie Jar Entertainment? By removing that info you are messing up the info in the article as Cookie Jar Group did not just acquire DIC but they also merged it with Cookie Jar Entertainment. On The Flintstones Page

I know that many people have been complaining about you cutting out stuff for no reason; I have a complaint too.

On the Flintstones page, you edited out some important sections about the Flinstones; these gave very important pieces of history that the copyright holders would give their right arm to keep it secret; all the editors were doing were shedding light in the circumstances surrounding the Flintstones that many people don't know about.

I don't know what your problem is, but this has got to stop. You just can't go out of your way to hide history just to fit your agenda. Contrary to what you may think, the world is not just black and white; the circumstances behind the creations are much more complex.

I'm reverting the edits this week.

I'm telling you once: STOP IT. NOW. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.113.232.22 (talk) 23:47, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is List of Walt Disney and Buena Vista video releases. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Walt Disney and Buena Vista video releases. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:15, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 01:29, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

I am not happy with you're comment on the reference thing on wikipedia!

Rather than downright insulting me on a reference page, the least you could do is edit the questions. PS: I can't se, so how would i be able to se the names on movies about who made them, i also spelled Warner as Worner for the last 8 years, (if i made a mistake again, forgive). I will let it slide this time, but i would like a better answer to my question, you're not being a verry good answerer, (forget grammar), and I am trying to tell you what would make it better. Pay attention to the notices at the reference pages, and remember the term: "Good Faith." I do not appreciate being critecized publicly on spelling and grammar, which so you know i haven't been good with, and never will be good wit it. Doesn't mean i'm a little kid, it just means that grammar is my week point, please respect that, pleaseeeee! 204.112.104.172 (talk) 04:48, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

What's wrong with it being the American Pop Culture category? Herostratus (talk) 07:42, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

You removed it again. And I restored it again, since you didn't give an explanation. Not even in the edit summary. If you have a good reason for removing this page from the category, what is it? Herostratus (talk) 02:40, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
It appears he's going for a particular naming pattern: only articles that include "... in popular culture" in their title are now allowed in that category. Seems like a drastic change to clear out the entire category and replace it with a different set of articles. Was there a discussion somewhere about this? -- œ 07:29, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
Not that I'm aware of if. If he's not going to respond to inquires or offer an explanation, I would say that all of these changes should be reverted on sight. Herostratus (talk) 14:49, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
Let's give him a little more time to respond. Could just be really busy... -- œ 16:11, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Before you make changes to the lead of the article, please read Talk:Whip_My_Hair#Neutrality on why the article does not have is not peacocky or reads like an advertisement, and how it covers all aspects of WP:LEAD. Candyo32 01:43, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

Hmm. Can you tell me your rationale for effectively wiping out every article from this category? Were you planning on renaming or deleting it or something? Not scolding you or anything, just wondering because it's quite useless now.. -- œ 04:22, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

Oh, OK. Well, I'm not sure that I agree that making the category more restrictive is an improvement. The goal is to help readers find articles of interest. Was the category too large, or something, such that the readers had to wade through too much? If so, perhaps this would best be addressed by subcategories. Or is there some other problem? Herostratus (talk) 03:14, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Conflict: inevitable consequence

By failing to append edits with summaries you are imposing the burden of puzzling out the reasoning behind inexplicable edits/redactions to others. While your designs may have merit, they are not necessarily clear from your actions, the conclusions drawn by others may not accurately reflect your intent, and the actions taken by others in response to your edits may consequently be less than constructive. If you are short on time, consider postponing making edits until you can address this element, essential to the collaborative nature of our undertaking.Mavigogun (talk) 13:36, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Why did you take out the Greg Gilpin info? I undid your removal of a primary source at [1]. I think that using a primary source is acceptable in this case because

  • WP:PRIMARY states, "Any interpretation of primary source material requires a reliable secondary source for that interpretation. A primary source may only be used on Wikipedia to make straightforward, descriptive statements that any educated person, with access to the source but without specialist knowledge, will be able to verify are supported by the source." In this case, the source is being used to support one straightforward fact—there is a teacher website belonging to Tera Myers, a science teacher, at the same school mentioned in the accompanying secondary source (KMOV).
  • WP:BLPPRIMARY states, "Do not use trial transcripts and other court records, or other public documents, to support assertions about a living person. Do not use public records that include personal details, such as date of birth, home value, traffic citations, vehicle registrations, and home or business addresses. Where primary-source material has been discussed by a reliable secondary source, it may be acceptable to rely on it to augment the secondary source, subject to the restrictions of this policy, no original research, and the other sourcing policies." Her school-hosted educator website is neither a court record nor a public record listing her personal information. Her position at the school has been discussed by two other secondary sources and the primary source used does not constitute original research, synthesis, or unverifiable interpretation of the facts.

I hope you understand where I'm coming from. Cheers, /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 17:47, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Howdy. Just a note to let you know I've undone your conversion of this page from a disambiguation article into a redirect - as you had it, a number of incoming links intended for some other William T. Moore ended up at William Theodore Moore. This sort of conversion is often very useful and welcome, but only when all the incoming links are unambiguous. Cheers. - TB (talk) 08:30, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

I notice that you have recategorized Limbo of the Lost from Category:Plagiarism to Category:Plagiarism controversies - I have reverted that change.

From Wiktionary:

"Controversy: A debate, discussion of opposing opinions; strife"

This matter was in no way a controversy! Where were the opposing opinions? The plagiarism was absolutely not controversial - it was just so downright blatent and widespread throughout the game that it amazed everyone!

So, no - it's not controversy...just outright plagiarism.

References Needed for EFX Wiki

To briefly address the fact that the EFX article has been tagged for 'multiple issues,' I am aware that there need to be cited sources; I believe heavily in citing references. EFX was extremely specific to Las Vegas, and there was very little information about it printed outside of the city at the time it opened. The majority of the information that was released outside of Las Vegas was provided by Michael Crawford's exclusive fan club in the monthly newsletter. Unfortunately, my copies of the newsletters disappeared due to moving multiple times over the course of several years, and I have yet to find them. I'm constantly working to retrieve as many sources as I can find to list in this article, but it is a slow, difficult process. Company Scrip...can we work together on this?

Hey, I am at this tyime submitting an article on coal srip which is a bare noes definition of what coal scrip weas and how it wa userd and issued. I have at this time stayed away from the politics and human rights issues which can and have precluded defining what company scrip actually is. The current company scrip page, pretty much does not define scrip if at all, and thats what I would like to do. SO, IF its possible, and IF you are up to it, can we expand the article, while I am awaiting th process of article submission. Before the inhumanity and expoitation issues arise, please keep in mind I have family and ancetir who worked in, died in coal mines and used scrip.Coal town guy (talk) 21:10, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Your edits at The Land Before Time

I just wanted to let you know that I reverted your revisions in the article "The Land Before Time", like this one, back to the original format. In response to your edit summary, "rm unreferenced Deleted Scenes and Alternate Ending sections; rm item about Judith Barsi's death, which isn't relevant" I want to say that just because a section is unreferenced doesn't mean it should be blanked, as sources could be found in the future. If you have good reason to say that reliable sourcing for the sections in question cannot be found, then you may boldly blank those sections appropriately. Judith Barsi's death is related as Barsi was an actor in the film and was killed prior to the film's release, as the statement indicates. Thanks! Michaelzeng7 (talk) 22:27, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

Marvin Hamlisch and Pasadena Symphony and POPS

I believe you were incorrect in changing POPS to Pops in Marvin Hamlisch and Pasadena Symphony and Pops. It was capitalized in this way because that's how they style it (see their website). AFAIK, we generally try to use names exactly as written by the organization itself. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 00:47, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

I changed the capitalization per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Trademarks: "Follow standard English text formatting and capitalization rules, even if the trademark owner considers nonstandard formatting 'official". Trivialist (talk) 01:57, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
OK. Seems wrong to me, but clear. I get why some names need to be modified to fit within our page naming restrictions, but I don't think we should go out of our way to modify names. Particularly when there's an exception carved out for iThings – to me, that just proves that more people cared about seeing those in their correct form :| . —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 14:48, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
I think it's mainly the use of all-caps that's frowned on -- iPhone is less annoying than iPHONE, which would just seem like gratuitous shouting. :) Trivialist (talk) 14:51, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

Perusing a few category pages (a couple thousand articles), I also came up with the following instances. Sounds like I need to propose a change in the standard:

I'm starting to think it might be easier to change the standard than to correct everything. :) Trivialist (talk) 16:28, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
I'm disappointed that you chose to un-cap all these articles without waiting for some community involvement. I really think the current standard is wrong, and will be proposing a change. I found 31 articles out of just a couple thousand, suggesting that actual wide use does not agree with the standard. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 20:39, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

Removal of useful resource

Hi. When you recently edited App store optimization, you removed a text with a reference pointing to the App Developers App Store Optimization Cheat Sheet because you considered it a "spammy looking ref". I had added the link (I wasn't logged in, my bad) to the wikipedia because it has proved useful to several app developers, and I think it will still be useful in the future as it is updated. Please take a better look at it, I clearly don't see how it is less relevant than broad TC articles or the MobileDevHQ Article.

Page Curation newsletter - closing up!

Hey all :).

We're (very shortly) closing down this development cycle for Page Curation. It's genuinely been a pleasure to talk with you all and build software that is so close to my own heart, and also so effective. The current backlog is 9 days, and I've never seen it that low before.

However! Closing up shop does not mean not making any improvements. First-off, this is your last chance to give us a poke about unresolved bugs or report new ones on the talkpage. If something's going wrong, we want to know about it :). Second, we'll hopefully be taking another pass over the software next year. If you've got ideas for features Page Curation doesn't currently have, stick them here.

Again, it's been an honour. Thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 12:29, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

This is not a newsletter

This is just a tribute.

Anyway. You're getting this note because you've participated in discussion and/or asked for updates to either the Article Feedback Tool or Page Curation. This isn't about either of those things, I'm afraid ;p. We've recently started working on yet another project: Echo, a notifications system to augment the watchlist. There's not much information at the moment, because we're still working out the scope and the concepts, but if you're interested in further updates you can sign up here.

In addition, we'll be holding an office hours session at 21:00 UTC on Wednesday, 14 November in #wikimedia-office - hope to see you all there :). I appreciate it's an annoying time for non-Europeans: if you're interested in chatting about the project but can't make it, give me a shout and I can set up another session if there's enough interest in one particular timezone or a skype call if there isn't. OrphanReferenceFixer: Help on reversion

Hi there! I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. Recently, you reverted my fix to Universal Studios.

If you did this because the references should be removed from the article, you have misunderstood the situation. Most likely, the article originally contained both <ref name="foo">...</ref> and one or more <ref name="foo"/> referring to it. Someone then removed the <ref name="foo">...</ref> but left the <ref name="foo"/>, which results in a big red error in the article. I replaced one of the remaining <ref name="foo"/> with a copy of the <ref name="foo">...</ref>; I did not re-insert the reference to where it was deleted, I just replaced one of the remaining instances. What you need to do to fix it is to make sure you remove all instances of the named reference so as to not leave any big red error.

If you reverted because I made an actual mistake, please be sure to also correct any reference errors in the page so I won't come back and make the same mistake again. Also, please post an error report at User talk:AnomieBOT so my operator can fix me! If the error is so urgent that I need to be stopped, also post a message at User:AnomieBOT/shutoff/OrphanReferenceFixer. Thanks! AnomieBOT 02:24, 26 December 2012 (UTC) If you do not wish to receive this message in the future, add {{bots|optout=AnomieBOT-OrphanReferenceFixer}} to your talk page.

General notability - Circle time

Hi! I noticed that you added a tag to the article Circle time suggesting that the contents of the article may not meet the guidelines for "general notability." However, the article has been tagged since August 2012 with no indication of removal, and the article itself has existed since May 2006, with no objection raised before then. Unless you wish to pursue the case with a talk page discussion / other action, I intend to remove the tag within the next couple days. ProfessorTofty (talk) 04:31, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Changed my mind, and removed the tag as obviously unfounded. I see no evidence that the article does not meet general notability. If you still feel that it is not article-worthy, I recommend a talk-page discussion. ProfessorTofty (talk) 04:37, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
